AMAZING! I’m a sushi connoisseur and I must say, every city I’ve traveled to as well as lived in, I’ve visited every sushi restaurant available to me. From Tallahassee to Philly to NYC to San Diego to Atlanta, Gekko is definitely one of my top 3 favs on a nationwide scale. The sexy ambiance makes it great for a date. Very intimate.

This is the only sushi place close to ponce city market, and I’m relieved to say they have pretty decent sushi. I’ve been here several times, I’ve never been disappointed in their sushi. They have a decent variety of rolls, they use quality ingredients, and they know how to make a decent roll. They have a good ambiance too, it’s not too loud, everything looks clean. I’m not going to comment on their other stuff(drinks, bento boxes) cause I haven’t even tried it– I have no desire to. I feel a sushi restaurant should be primarily judged on their sushi. I’ve lived in NYC and traveled to japan so I’ve tried my fair share of sushi. This place grades out pretty well in comparison. You won’t be amazed, but you won’t be disappointed either.

I’ve been here a few times over the last few years(usually because someone else chooses) and never have I thought this place was more than mediocre at best. The slow service pales in comparison to the low quality/grade of fish. Today, my seaweed salad tasted old and was NOT light and fresh… yet the server gave us a hard time to exchange it for a miso soup. ha! The sashimi sampler also lacked the freshness you expect of sushi. My water sat empty almost the entire time I dined… Smh. It’s no wonder it’s always a deal here… probably the only way to get people in these doors. Get the miso soup — it’s prob the best thing on the menu.

I am so happy to report that I am a fan of Gekko Sushi! I am a huge fan in general of sushi, however, moving to Atlanta from Los Angeles I have to admit that I am slightly a sushi snob. Gekko Sushi I think is great for what they are. Will you get the best grade sushi here? No, will you get the most creative sushi rolls? No. But you will get good sushi at a decent price, and I’m okay with that! I heard there are other places that have great sushi in Atlanta and I’ll try them out eventually… but for now, I am happy with Gekko! Oh, and their service is great!!! xoxo

Definitely a huge fan of this place. I’ve been here several times and it’s about 20 steps from one of our offices in Midtown. The service here is fantastic every time and have never been disappointed. Recently found out that the upstairs level of this restaurant is open for dinner and private parties. Gekko Sushi is located across the street from the Dancing Goats Coffee Bar on Glen Iris Drive in Atlanta. Their lunch specials are fresh and even if you place a to-go order, you’ll receive everything in great packaging down to the ginger dressing for your salad. The restaurant itself is cozy and well decorated. They did a great job with the space and it’s also nice to just sit at the sushi bar to grab a quick bite for lunch or dinner. If you’re ever near Ponce City Market and am craving sushi, Gekko Sushi won’t disappoint.

5 star because it’s only 2 mins from my place. The food is decent. I love their ramen even that it’s not the best that Ive had and they only gave me two small pieces of meat. But the broth was good and I like it a lot. Definitely come back since it’s very convenient for me

Ordered my meal to go which was a Filet Mignon, double fried rice. Now, If you’re a steak lover like I am then you know how biting into a filet should taste. Instead, I got extremely over-cooked beef, something I would compare closest to an extremely tough burger patty. Next, my FRIED rice is absolutely not and instead looks like they just poured yellow stuff over it to give it the illusion. I’m so disappointed and even though they still charged me extra for all of it, I will definitely not being going back.

Came here for an early dinner tonight with friends. We were craving sushi, and this restaurant was nearby. I had the«Spicy Octopus» roll and«Supper Gekko» roll, which were both great and decently priced. Although the Gekko roll was pricier, I actually enjoyed the Spicy Octopus roll more. Also had a sake mojito, which was nice, but to be honest, I couldn’t tell the difference between it and a regular mojito. The waiter was friendly and attentive. Overall, for 2 sushi rolls and a cocktail, it cost about $ 30, which is probably average price among sushi restaurants in the area for what I ordered.

This was a breath of fresh air here in Atlanta. This place is one of the better sushi bars we have found in town. We had a number of rolls and hand rolls. The hand rolls were nicely stuffed with fresh fish and were quite enjoyable. The cut rolls were elegantly presented and fresh. I’ll post a picture. So far one of our favorite places.

Great date night atmosphere, food is tasty and fresh. I love edamame for an appetizer and all the sushi is good. I never have to wait long for a table and the staff is nice.

I came here for dinner with a friend. The ambience is quite nice, but a bit chilly. The food was just ok. I got the Gekko bento box and the fried meat looked like it was old meat. The box was too big for the amount of food that is given(lots of empty space). My friend got the Tonkatsu ramen and thought it was average. We’ve had better bento boxes and ramen soups elsewhere.

My family and I’s first stop in Atlanta for a weekend trip was Gekko Sushi. I ordered the tonkatsu ramen($ 10) and tiger roll($ 12.95). The tiger roll was average and tasted good because of the excessive amount of sauces on top. I couldn’t tell the difference between the tonkatsu ramen and a package of Maruchan’s instant pork flavored ramen. The toppings of the ramen were also ok, the pork was sliced too thin. The best dish I had here was the house special fried rice($ 15.95). Overall, Gekko Sushi is overpriced for the quality of food.

I eat here all the time and usually really like the sushi. I branched off and got shrimp Sumai and was sorely disappointed. They use salad baby shrimp… one on top of a dumpling to look like there’s more underneath like in dim sum restaurants. There was nothing but dough. I had to send it back. The sushi is always good. So I recently changed from 2 to 3 stars.

1 star Gekko. Please get it together!!! This place is in the perfect location to be awesome however their customer service and bar skills are completely lacking. I stopped by with some friends for a drink after a nearby festival. It was mid-day and not too busy. Ambiance: it was fairly quiet with tables no private booths. The establishment was clean and did not smell too fishy. Service: Extremely slow. We ordered 3 drinks and they all came out one by one with about 3 – 5 minutes in between. We sat at the sushi bar and attempted to converse with the chefs but they were not willing to partake in that behavior. We definitely were not welcomed with open arms. Quality: My wasabi Bloody Mary was absolutely disgusting. Don’t do it. Just gross.

Love the Avocado Lover Salad! Tasted amazingly fresh. The sushi was just okay, might be better at dinner time. The sushi chef looked like he was very young and possibly somewhat inexperienced. Jalapeño Yellowtail sashimi was great. I will definitely come here again when getting my car detailed next door…

Gekko Sushi and Lounge is a trendy sushi restaurant located on the ground floor of the Ponce Springs lofts development in Old Fourth Ward. It’s close to Ponce City Market, near the borders of Midtown and Poncey-Highland. Gekko is more of a restaurant than a lounge, though it definitely gives off a lounge-like atmosphere with it’s cool and modern design. The restaurant has two levels of indoor seating, a stylish wraparound sushi bar, and covered patio seating which faces the Ponce Springs courtyard and fountain. Multiple sushi chefs work the posh, centrally located bar, which has a semi-open kitchen in the back where other dishes are prepared. This is more of an Americanized sushi/Japanese restaurant offering about 50 – 60 different sushi rolls. There are also about two dozen nigiri(fish over rice)/sashimi(raw fish slices) offered including otoro(fattiest portion of bluefin tuna belly), hotate(sea scallop), and uni(sea urchin). The latter three aren’t offered at most run-of-the-mill(cheap) sushi joints, so it’s nice that they’re available here. Other notable selections include chirashi bowls(assorted sushi over rice), bento boxes(combo meals), tempura and teriyaki dishes, and noodle soups such as ramen and udon. Expect to spend between roughly $ 10 – 20 each for most special rolls and entrees. Nigiri runs about $ 5 – 6 for every two pieces. The rolls I’ve tried, the Super Gekko and Typhone rolls, are good. The Super Gekko is one of the pricier rolls on the menu. It consists of spicy tuna and scallion, wrapped with avocado and topped with masago(capelin fish eggs). The Typhone is similar. It’s yellowtail with scallion and spicy mayo wrapped with yellowtail, salmon, and avocado. Each roll is sliced into eight pieces. The fish are fresh, the avocado is soft and ripe, and the rolls are neatly put together and nicely presented. If you’re looking for a unique appetizer, try the agedashi tofu. This app consists of a bowl of deep-fried, golden brown tofu and scallions in a tentsuyu broth made of dashi stock and other ingredients. It has a distinct flavor. The tofu in this dish is normally served«dry,» but Gekko’s version looks more like a soup. A small side of bonito fish flakes is served on the side. I really like the wakame(seaweed) salad here. The seaweed is fresh and flavorful. There are thin strands of seaweed in various shades of bright and deep green with some small seeds interspersed too. The ramen is OK. If I want just ramen, I’d probably go to Raku Midtown before coming here. Gekko offers tonkotsu(pork bone broth) and shoyu(soy sauce broth) ramen. I’ve tried the tonkotsu which comes with slices of roasted pork, bean sprouts, a hard-boiled egg, scallions, bamboo shoots, seaweed, fish cake, and sesame seeds. The broth is tasty enough, however the noodles are a bit too soft and mushy. The other ingredients are fine. The slices of pork are comparatively thick and expectedly fatty. Service is satisfactory. I don’t think this place is busy enough to warrant reservations, but you can book them on OpenTable and earn free dining points. Also, Gekko delivers to a limited area. There’s a $ 25 minimum and a $ 2 delivery fee. Parking is free. If you can’t find any spots on the street, pull around to the parking deck in the back. The first two levels are reserved for visitors of the Ponce Springs development, Gekko included. Overall, Gekko is A-OK.
