This place isn’t my cup of tea. They’re food is probably ok but I’m not a fan of fried food and that’s all they have. I thought the food was really salty. I didn’t have any urge to go back after I went here once and I used to live right by here until about 8 – 9 months ago.

CHECKYOURORDER!!! They’re horrible in the drive thru or inside. Just take the extra minute to find a Zaxby’s because unless they REALLY tighten up the staff this place wont be here for too long.

I’m so glad I work close to this place. I became a Guthrie’s lover while living in Athens and recently discovered this location not far from my office. It’s nothing super special. Chicken fingers, fries, and that weird orange-ish sauce. But it’s so damn good. The chicken is usually crispy and greasy — just how I like it. Fries could usually use some extra seasoning, but after a healthy dunk into that sauce, who really cares?!? And I’m a proponent of getting extra fries instead of the coleslaw… because, ya know, who needs all that greenery? Oh, and don’t forget the toast. Mmmm, toast. And if you say that Zaxby’s is better, we can’t be friends.

Guthries has seen better days. Counter service was slow and inattentive. The portions have decreased to Great Depression levels. The chicken fingers look more like pigeon fingers although they are still tasty. Fries were cold and undercooked. Maybe they had an off day at this location but its hard to pay $ 7 for pigeon fingers and cold french fries.

I found myself outside the Perimeter doing Christmas shopping and needed to refuel. I saw a Guthrie’s and stopped in without really knowing what it was. Well, it’s a joke, a wannabe in the fast food business. First of all, it’s tiny. And the reason it’s tiny is because it’s a one trick pony and that one trick is chicken tenders. Really, you can operate a successful restaurant serving only chicken tenders? Second, the service sucks. The little chirpie behind the counter had severe ADHD. She stared at me, I placed my order and then she looked at me and asked what I wanted. This repeated itself and I swear I had to repeat everything I said at least three times. Hello in there, anybody home? Third, the food was forgettable. But the most fun was reading the placemat that told the true story of the original Golden Fried Chicken Finger specialist, otherwise known as the Guthrie’s Story. I learned that in 1968, Hal Guthrie developed the«secret recipe» for chicken breading — riveting. In 1978, «Golden Fried Chicken Fingers» appear on the menu for the first time AND Hud Guthrie creates the famous sauce recipe, the most imitated sauce in the country — Call Ripley’s Believe It Or Not! In 1982 the menu was revised to feature only chicken tenders, fries, Texas toast and slaw — OMG, one of those where were you when moments. And in 1987, the first of many copy-cats open their doors — really, who, where, I want names. And then I’m told it is customers like me that have turned Guthrie’s into a culinary institution. Yeah, and Guthrie’s ruled the world! At this point I’m laughing my ass off at all the hyperbole. These people really take themselves seriously, but you shouldn’t.

Great place – I like Guthries more than Zaxby’s!

If you are looking for fine dining, don’t go to Guthrie’s. If you are looking for a healthy meal don’t go to Guthrie’s. If you are looking for a scrubbed down, pristine restaurant, don’t go to Guthries. If you are looking for delicious fried chicken tenders(with a great dipping sauce) and an inexpensive once-in-a-while calorie splurge, go to Guthries. It is what it is, don’t go to a chicken finger place and complain that the salad and pita isn’t tasty. Treat it like the old Athens location — 2 items on the menu: «box» or «plate.» Finally, if you are a fan of Zaxby’s, then DON’T go to Guthrie’s because you don’t know what’s good.

Blows zaxbys out of the water. While zaxbys may win in variety, gurthries definitely wins in taste. The chicken fingers are always perfect and their sauce is amazing. I may get the chicken platter every time, but it’s so good, why get anything else.

seems to be a debate between zaxby’s and guthrie’s here on Unilocal.my vote is most definitely for guthrie’s, but as someone else said, it’s pretty much like comparing coke and pepsi. i’m sure everyone has a preference. to me, all the chicken finger joints of the world(quite a few here in the southeast) are about the same, with only the slightest differences. that being said, i think it comes down to the flavor of the chicken tenders and the flavor of the sauce. and in both categories, guthrie’s wins for me. i just recently found out there are a couple of guthrie’s locations in town(tried my first one in Auburn while visiting a friend in college), but now that i know, i doubt i’ll ever be back to zaxby’s when i’m in atlanta and get the craving for some chicken fingers. can’t comment on the cleanliness of the interior, as i only got drive thru, but things were quick, and the food was great. gotta love that sweet tea, too.

I used to work around near Guthries and I would stop in the morning for breakfast for my weird combination of a Chicken finger biscut with Guthries sauce. Sooo good. I really like it…

Don’t care what anyone thinks, this place was here waaay before Zaxbys. Anyone that went to FAMU knows this is the spot! I really love to order the box, subbing slaw for extra fries, tenders, TX toast and extra Guthrie sauce. The secret is in the sauce! I love their food even if it is not the healthiest

My SO has been telling me about Guthrie’s for a while and her memories from Auburn. Lots of her family friends live in Dunwoody so one weekend we stopped here for football Saturday and picked up some food. Upon entering the cashier is screaming the whole time. They had a couple waiting for 20 mins at the drive thru. To make it worse we were the only customers in the store. After placing our order we go sit down and my feet are sticking to the floor because it’s so dirty. As I look around I could visibly see that every table is dirty and chicken bits were all over the floor. This location is foul(no pun intended). You have to think if the eating area is filthy what does the kitchen look like? I don’t even want to talk about the food. I’d rather have thrown it away than have ate it after an experience like that. I guess the fact that mid day Saturday and no was dinning speaks volumes about this place.

Meh, is right. Or maybe it’s because I’m in love with Zaxby’s but G’s really didn’t do it for me. Flavorless fries, a super watery almost sour BBQ sauce, and The Guthrie’s sauce which I’m taking is a mayo based sauce… I wasn’t a fan.

Ate here yesterday for first time. It was okay, but not as good as Zaxby’s in my opinion. I do prefer their toast, however. But not the chicken fingers & definitely not the fries. I thought they were pretty tasteless & only helped out by ketchup. I do agree that it was a little dirty in there. The girl working behind the counter did her best job to keep up with all the orders coming in, both from the drive-thru and the dining room. I thought she did a good job. I’d return here if I had a coupon. Otherwise, it’ll be Zaxby’s for me.

I do not see the attraction of this place. Its dirty inside, the staff are young kids with little or no idea of customer service. The food is average at best. I was not offered napkins or utensils to eat in. It all seems very cafeteria like, fries were same as you get in the Kroger frozen food section and the dip came out of a can.

People seem to really love Guthrie’s. This place smells a little bad every time I am there and there never seems to be anyone here. I keep waiting for it to close down one day. I even tell my wife I don’t know how its still open right now… This place is WAY too fried for me — the food is like soaked in oil when you get it. I know its fried chicken, but I feel sick every time I leave this place. I have eaten there 3 times and I keep thinking it will be different… but I have given up. There is a Chick-Fil-A right near it, go there instead…

Having gone to UGA, I’m very familiar with the Guthrie’s franchise. It was around long before Zaxby’s, and I’m pretty sure it’ll still be around for a long time to come, because it’s fucking fantastic. This is pure, deep fried, clog-your-arteries deliciousness. Just chicken tenders, fries, texas toast, and cole slaw. And the Guthrie’s sauce is amazing — very similar to Zax sauce, but better. Think Coke vs. Kroger Brand Cola. It’s tough to copy an original exactly! This particular location lacks some of the charm of the Athens locations, and last time I was in there, it was kind of messy looking. But that’s not going to stop me from going there twice a year(because of the calorie load)! I will always love Guthrie’s. I think they have less of a selection than Zaxby’s(although I do think their menu has expanded a bit since I was in college), but when you make one thing exceptionally well, sometimes that’s all you need.

I was exposed to Guthrie’s not too long ago, because of someone knowing how much I love chicken and Zaxby’s. Suggested I should check this place out, beside being incredibly good; it’s really inexpensive. When you walk in there isn’t much room for dining, but they won’t keep you waiting for too long. Food is cooked fresh, tea is sweet without being overly sweet. Service has always been nice and friendly and prompt. Its a counter based restaurant, so you aren’t going to be serviced, but walking in I don’ t think it was difficult to figure out. If you are out this way, stop in; the chicken fingers are great. If you love Zaxby’s you’ll really love Guthrie’s.

I used to work just down the way from this location, and thus on days when I could only spare a moment or two for lunch — this is often where I found myself. Luckily, this was right around the time where I went from being a very strict vegetarian to eating chicken. The chicken fingers are pretty durn good — a tad bit greasy for my taste. I couldn’t do it every day, but some people really like it. However, the dipping sauce makes it worth justifying the bit of grease though. The cole slaw is good. The french fries are YUMMY! I don’t like Texas Toast, so I avoid it at all costs. They have great ice though — this is random but, they have the little tiny puffed ice nuggets that you love to crunch on while sipping on your coke cola. Oh man — I should not review while hungry! I’m thinking a 15-minutes-out-of-my-way-for-food trip is in my near future! Don’t expect to order anything I didn’t just mention though. They don’t do anything else. They do chicken. That’s it. & You can call in an order, and have them cater your party — which is pretty cool.

Don’t come to Guthrie’s expecting variety. You can get chicken fingers, fries, toast, and slaw. That’s it. The chicken fingers are really darn good. The Texas Toast is really darn good. I think that the fries are probably frozen fries, but they were good, too. And the sweet tea was good old-fashioned sweet tea, ridiculously sweet. Definitely worth a try when you are in the mood for some chicken fingers.
