Fail. Tried to go here on a Wednesday to see their stock, both their website and door said the close at ten. I arrived at nine to find the place closed. I live a half hour away so I was not too happy. I have been wanting to go back for another try but everytime I call to make sure they are open I get the machine. I call that poor customer service. Went to check it out again and the selection was okay but nothing very impressive. I’m a Pinot noir drinker and I was disappointed by the selection. The wines were mostly $ 15 – 20 which makes me hesitate when it comes to that grape.

Hall of Fine Wines is one of my favorite wine shops in the ATL. Not only is the selection good, and you can find some wines that are tough to find on the East Coast, but the place is fun. John Hall, the owner, is super cool and laid back. They frequently do wine tastings for $ 5BYOG(Bring your own glass) or $ 10 if they supply the glass. John and his staff make excellent recommendations, especially after a few visits and they know your taste. There’s no problem walking in and telling them, «I only want to spend $ 15». They will find you good wines that you’ll be happy with. We’ve gotten numerous cases here, and you get a 10% discount on mixed cases. Recently, they have had a few tastings with the wine maker, which is always educational and fun.

You’ll find us here most Friday nights for their $ 5BYO glass witty themed wine tastings. Sometimes they’ll have the actual winemakers there too. It’s good stuff too and moderately priced. No two-buck or yellowtail crap here.(The only annoying part is that they don’t keep the white wine in an ice bucket so it’s often poured warm. Grrrr…) John Hall is not your typical wine connoisseur… he keeps it real with the leather baseball caps in the winter and jorts in the summer. He runs a simple shop, organized by taste and varietal, and decorated with Christmas lights year round. He’s not snooty(though he likes his cigars), tells great stories, and will chat it up with everyone. He’ll stay open late sometimes too if you just wanna hang. We haven’t committed to their monthly wine club but it’s been very tempting. Oh, and unfortunately their website is not updated ever anymore, but they do regular weekly e-newsletters.

I can’t believe I haven’t reviewed Hall’s! I love this place. They have great deals with their $ 5BYOG(bring your own glass) wine tastings. Don’t worry, if you don’t want to bring your own wine glass, you can still do the tasting for $ 10, and that includes a wine glass to take home with you. They also have a great wine of the month deal — you can either subscribe for $ 25/month or $ 40/month. Each one is 2 bottles of wine per month, but the $ 40/month is a little more high-end. Belonging to the wine club also gets you discounts on the wines of the month, and discounts on wine classes and such. The people at the store are very friendly and knowledgeable, and I have always had a good time whenever I’ve gone to a tasting. Plus, if you love a wine and want to take it out to dinner with you immediately, they have a wine chiller that will make your white ready to drink in 5 minutes, which is pretty cool. Overall, this a fantastic, independently owned store, and I definitely would recommend them to any wine lover. Oh! I should mention that the way they organize their store is good for anyone who likes wine but may not know a lot about the different regions and varieties, as they organize their wines by taste, rather than the rather confusing method of organization by region and grape.

The owner(last name: Hall. duh.) is really cool and laid back. Funny stories, and there’s not a bunch of douche-bags wandering around looking for fuck-what Rose or bitching about the quality of blah blah Port. I like simple wine places that talk to you straight when you don’t know what you’re talking about. See, Optimus likes bourbon. It’s great for degreasing my camshafts and spark plugs, but I found out it tastes even better. But I really don’t know a whole lot of hoo when it comes to wine. So I came here to try it out on a cohort’s recommendation, bought a bottle of locally-distributed Pinot Noir on Hall’s recommendation, drank it on my own recommendation, and now I shall leave you one. Check them out. Seriously — they’re nice, and they have a good moderate-to-expensive selection in a not-quite-yet-well-known part of Inman Park(it’s starting to look like 1960’s Chicago or something down there). Enjoy, sons & daughters of Dionysus! …grumble…fucking Michael Bay… Optimus ]hiccup[ OUT.
