Me and my husband were nicely greeted upon entering J. Alexander’s. We had the calamari as an appetizer and it was fried to perfection(not fried hard nor did it have that rubbery texture). The marinara dipping sauce had a great flavor as well. We added side salads to our entrée and not only were they a very nice size, they were delightfully fresh. He had the crab cakes and I had the Maui steak(medium well). The crab cakes were really good because they were filled with lump crab meat accompanied by a little filler and they were also seasoned very well. I hate getting crab cakes with no flavor or way too much filler. The Maui steak was marinated throughout and it was delicious with the exception of the fatty pieces on the end that were charred but that’s to be expected with a ribeye cut of steak. For sides, we had the macaroni(amazing), black beans and rice(seasoned to perfection) and loaded baked potato and all sides met or exceeded our expectations. We went early on a Sunday so we didn’t have any alcoholic beverages. We both agreed that the food was good and this restaurant warrants a return visit.

The rattlesnake pasta is my favorite! The spices were perfect with bow tie pasta. The atmosphere is intimate and dark. Also enjoyed their large sized crème Brulee dessert. Service was great and they’re not over priced.

I’ve never had a bad meal at J. Alexander’s but that’s because I have the Rattlesnake pasta every time I go. It is the best dish ever! The portion size is enough for two, it’s spicy, plenty of chicken and the sauce is amazing! Oh and the food is always brought out piping hot. The wait staff is professional and friendly and I’ve never had more than a 20 min wait. I also like going here for Sunday brunch, the French Toast is amazing.

The ambience and service was fantastic. The spinach con queso dip was was really good. I has the Steak Mauri. It was marinated well with a pineapple and soy sauce base. I requested Medium, but the inside was a little more medium well. Ask for slightly past medium rare and it should be wonderful. My wife has the Rattlesnake pasta which was SUPERB! Great flavors throughout with a nice hint of spice. Friend has the Cilantro Shrimp which was very good as well. Solid spot!

This is a solid restaurant in Dunwoody and leans more towards«fine dining» then casual, though it could certainly be casual as there’s no stuffy dress code or reservations required. The food is excellent and you can choose anything from a hearty hamburger($ 12)to a Hawaiian marinated steak($ 30). Salads here are also delicious as well as the desert. We splurged and ordered the crème brule and chocolate cake. Drinks averaging around $ 10-$ 12 are well executed and very strong. Service is equally wonderful and attentive. The only downside is they do not offer a happy hour because if they did I’d come more often.

This place is the definition of 5 stars! I went for Valentine’s and it was a 2 hour wait without reservations. Well it was the best wait in a restaurant I’ve ever had. The hostess was friendly and the food runners were even more friendly. We received a complimentary glass of champagne and got to try an appetizer while we waited. When we got to the table we received our food pretty quickly! These people were bussing tables in a matter of seconds! Great customer service! p. s. The veggie burger and the Mac and cheese are out of this world!

Went here again for my wife’s birthday and the first time was awesome but this time was awesomer(made up word) I mean if I was well off I’d eat here twice a week!!, I had the baked chicken this time and it was perfect!, my with a the pork medallions. We also got the chocolate cake with ice cream for dessert. This one dessert is more than enough for two some ask for extra spoon. Waitress stayed on point, atmosphere is pleasing although I will suggest casual dressing not sneakers and t shirt. My total for the both of us was about 80 bucks. I highly recommend this place.

Excellent restaurant with a fun happy hour, great steaks, chicken, and seafood options. Perfect for group dinners or an intimate dinner. The bar is also great if you want to enjoy dinner & a cocktail on your own. Lunchtime can be busy, if you have time to wait, it’s worth it. The servers are always nice & knowledgeable about the menu.

I had the Rotisserie chicken and mashed potatoes. They were both season very well. If you have room for dessert the carrot cake it a must. It is warm and rich with an amazing icing.

Realistically you can’t go wrong with J Alexanders. This is good for date night or birthday the food stays pretty consistent and is not that pricey. Also if you go go on a Friday see you can have the chicken pasta soup which is really good

This was better than I expected. Took the little girl here on a daddy daughter date night. They have an «off menu kids menu» so be sure to ask. My little one crushed an adult sized burger at half the price. I had a steak. It was fine. The waiter was not knowledgable about the menu items or ideal cooking temperatures, etc. This was the only disappointment really. I’d go back here as it’s right around the corner.

Drive on by this place… plenty of better places in the area in the same price point with better food. It’s expensive, not flexible, and not worth what it costs. Chain food, high-end independent prices… canned policies and chain food at a premium price. Nearly $ 60 bucks for dinner tonight and I couldn’t get veggies instead of mashed potatoes… seriously! Think about it… you go in with your spouse or date and spend over $ 100 bucks for dinner and you can’t get veggies instead of mashed potatoes… for real?! Want a laugh, look at their website and try to figure out how to send in feedback. Seriously, their website says: If you would like to contact us at the Support Center, please call, write a letter or send us a fax: For real, that’s directly from their site… think they care what you think or want to hear from you? No way to email… and feedback goes right to the GM at the restaurant where you have a problem. You can get better food at a restaurant who cares for less money! Until recently, this has been a favorite. After my experience tonight, I won’t say I will never go back… but, it will be a LONG time before I return. I go in 2 – 4 times per week either for lunch or dinner. Tonight I go in for dinner and order the pork chop special. The pork chop is served with smashed potatoes: Being on a low carb diet, I can’t have them. Sub out veggies or anything for the potatoes, IMPOSSIBLE. You see, it’s a SPEC dish… the chop is served on the potatoes… it messes up the look, blah blah blah… and, try them, you will like them. Well, you see, I’m on a diet and can’t have them… well, sorry, impossible, can’t do it. Our server was overbearing. Seriously, can’t get veggies instead of mashed potatoes? They’ve lost a regular customer over mashed friggin potatoes… and they could not care less. Drive right past this place, they won’t appreciate your business and you can do better for less money. Spend your hard earned money on better food at an establishment appreciating your business.

So I went to this location for a business lunch a few weeks ago. My Unilocal reminded me that I needed to complete a review from here. That should tell you a little bit something about how maybe this place is. While, I enjoyed the food, and thinking back on it it was OK — I wouldn’t call this a place to write home about. The food was of an acceptable quality for the price that was paid, and is in line with other restaurants in that area. If you’re in the area and you were preferring not to attend a restaurant that is Asian themed or seafood theme, then this might be just the right answer for your location. However, with that said I would not go out of my way to go to J Alexanders.

You can find this location of J. Alexander’s at 4701 Ashford Dunwoody Rd NE, Atlanta, GA30338 in Perimeter Village, the shopping center North and across Ashford Dunwoody Rd from Perimeter Mall. This is a large shopping center that has a Walmart as the anchor, but also includes a US Post Office and several restaurants worth trying like Viceroy Indian Cuisine. I spend a lot of time over here due to its proximity to my work. J. Alexander’s occupies the old Houston’s location, inheriting the sexy interior that features fabulous Louis Poulsen Artichoke Pendant Lamps, a rich dark wood interior and inviting bar. For me this location was always about drinking and having a few appetizers, something the restaurant does very well. I had eaten here a couple of times when it was Houston’s and think of that chain as more of the original bourbon/wine and steak concept. J. Alexander’s continues with that theme, at least at this location(the only one I’ve visited) and does very well by that concept, offering a selection of steaks, seafood and wines competitive with many high-end restaurants. On this occasion I attended a short business meeting during lunch with only a few people. For the most part everyone was looking at the salads and fish options so my photos and review will focus on those items. I hope to come back and try a nice cut of prime rib with a reserve label red. We had reservations and were seated with about 5 minutes of standing in the lobby waiting for the entire party to enter. Service started very good with polite hosts attending and a couple of wait staffers to serve(I believe one was in training). I had one of the specials, the Golden Sea Bass with Mango Papaya Salsa served with couscous and it was quite good if a little light weight — a small salad would have enhanced the experience(but again, I should have asked about a salad). I was envious of the lunch salads that others ordered, including an Ahi Tuna Salad and a Cyprus Salad from the regular menu. Food on delivery seemed a bit rushed and the wait time from order to delivery was quite long — the only negatives to an exceptional experience. Also and perhaps this was due to the rushed delivery, the food was a bit skewed on the plates(I know that this is nitpicking but when you pay more the expectation should be higher, yes?). This was really a 3.5÷5 experience but I’ll round up to 4 from past visits. (also posted to my food blog with photos)

Great food and good staff on my first visit to this location. We went for lunch and they were quickly packed. We tend to arrive early for a seating of more than 4 and I’m so glad we did. Food was hot and everyone’s order was correct. They do a food amount of business during lunch with wait lines forming at 12 noon. Can’t say I would wait but I might avoid the wait by doing take out. This is a nice place for lunch.

This review is primarily for their excellence in customer service. I had dinner there a few nights ago, and our appetizer never came before the entrees, so the waiter apologized and told us the app would be out shortly and be on the house. Thank you! After that, my boyfriend’s steak came and it was supposed to be medium rare, but came out much closer to medium well. They took it and back and very quickly returned with a perfect steak. There were no issues with my meal, and everything tasted great. At the end of the meal when we went to pay, we would told that the GM was covering it. We were beyond impressed by that gracious offer and will certainly not forget how outstanding their customer service is. Tips: the mac and cheese is a creamy, delicious masterpiece, the grilled artichoke with aioli is perfectly chargrilled, and the steak had great flavor

I enjoy J. Alexander’s everyone I dine. I love the ambiance and the good is fantastic. However, I’d say the service is one of the best you will get in town. I get the vegetarian burger every time I go, and of course you gotta get the French fries with it! Magnificent

One of my favorite meals from anywhere; prime rib dip with Mac n cheese, real ginger ale and carrot cake to finish it off… No joke; thank me later If they have marvelous stuff on the menu when you go, do that instead of carrot cake…

I would give 3.5 stars if I could… Upon arriving I was seated right away. The server checked in immediately to take my drink order and bring some water… «this is off to a great start,» I tell myself. My drink was delivered promptly. A few minutes later my appetizer arrived. I’m really starting to like this place… and then… my server went MIA. I waited around 15 minutes from the time my appetizer was delivered to the time my server returned to take my dinner order. He DID bring water(my glass had only been empty for about 5 minutes) so at least i wasn’t going to dehydrate. Placed my dinner order as well as an order for another drink. At least the server seems friendly. He hasn’t been rude or short at all… kudos on the attitude! Fast forward to the arrival of my filet mignon(cooked medium+). It looks amazing, it smells great, and when I cut in the preparation looks flawless. I quickly skewer a piece of the flesh with the fork and raise it to my mouth in anticipation. I bite down and begin to chew. Waiting… waiting…nothing. Where’s the flavor? I had to eat the entire steak just to be sure. Alas, there was no flavor hiding within. Sad day! When I’d finished the meal I looked around for the server. He had gone MIA again. Someone else came by to buss my table and see if I needed anything else. Finally the server returned with my check and I was able to wrap up the evening. I would probably eat here again if I found myself in the vicinity of the restaurant. I definitely wouldn’t go out of my way to eat here, though.

So — it’s one of THE go-to places for a business lunch in the Perimeter area, so is usually filed with business suits. The lunch menu has the usual items: fish/seafood, salads, pastas and steaks and… they’re well executed. Don’t let the business atmosphere dampen your enthusiasm. My particular favorite is the Asian Ahi Tuna salad — the tuna is perfectly seared on the outside while remaining rare on the inside. The salad blend is delicate and tasty but is served with a side of wasabi for those who want to ramp it up. Service is quick, well done and unobtrusive(remember — this is a biz meeting restaurant!). This is a worthy choice when you’re in the area.

Birthday dinner, ribs for me and pork tenderloin for him. The ribs were very delicious and the meat was easily falling off the bone. Salad was great too, awesome croutons and honey dijon was very tasty. Very courteous service, the bathroom is immaculate and very modern, love the stalls and sink.

Never had I seen Perimeter in such a chaotic mess. It was 8:30PM on a random Saturday night, and we had a 8:30 reservation at Maggiano’s. Unfortunately for them, they were way overbooked. When we got there at 8:30, they hadn’t even started seating the 8PM reservations. The hostess was in such a disarray. After a couple calls, we finally ended up at J Alexander’s, which is located in the same plaza as Wal-Mart and Olive Garden, among many other stores and restaurants. We still had a 20 minute wait, but it was tolerable. The interior of the restaurant is dim and slightly romantic, so nice place for a casual(or upscale if you choose to make it so) date. I was here for a catch up girls night and we were impatient for food and drinks. Our server brought us water and took our orders, although not immediately. We both ordered the Ahi Tuna Salad without any alcoholic drinks. We were in a healthy state of mind, even though the drink menu looked fantastic. The tuna was fresh and the salad was refreshing and flavorful. The sweet wasabi and ginger gave it a true sushi feel, as well. We noticed the next table over ordered deviled eggs, so we immediately copied them. An order comes with 6 of the most delectable deviled eggs ever. The candied bacon we topped ourselves with the sprigs of cilantro from the middle of the platter. Delish. Food is a little pricey here but I really enjoyed the atmosphere, which I assume is included in the price of each dish.

The décor is nice and it’s a great spot for a special occasion as well. They only have one table to fit 10 so we had to opt for splitting our party into two 5s, but that was fine because we were able to get booths next to each other. The servers were very accommodating and friendly and quick with our orders. Big portions for everything, so I shared with my sister and it was a perfect meal for both of us. Entrée: Veggie Burger,(other Unilocalers were right), it was delicious! It was so flavorful and tasty, and I loved that it’s housemade and not the frozen patties you get at other places. Side of mac’n’cheese was soo good! Creamy and just enough cheese. Side of Shoestring fries: skinny fries, not too oily. Carrot Cake for dessert: everyone at the table loved this, after all it is the most popular item! Definitely will come back again, but I wish they had more vegetarian options!
