Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams

You can never have too many locations of Jeni’s. Too bad they aren’t on every street corner like Starbucks in NYC.
This location is found on the deepest corner of Krog Street Market. I thought it would be the saving grace to the poor selection of overpriced restaurants. Almost, but not quite.
I perused the huge unfilled chalkboard menu of flavors. All flavors I was very familiar with, and I’m not at Jeni’s every week like I used to be. Nothing different or new. I also have the feeling there the menu is smaller than the Decatur and Westside locations. Having one less freezer really puts a crimp on their variety. I had a hard time choosing two flavors I really wanted to eat — and that’s really saying something because I’m all about ice cream and what Jeni’s has to offer. I ended up getting the usual: brown butter almond brittle and one of my recent favorites, Torrone.
As I tasted my ice cream, I was shocked to find that while I did get the brown butter almond brittle, I did not get Torrone per request. There were pecans in my ice cream — bourbon salted pecan, to be exact. Not that I didn’t like bourbon salted pecan, but it’s just not what I ordered. Even so, both were tasty together.
The line started to file up in a huge mob in the middle of the Krog Street Market as people tried to get around while walking past. The servers weren’t the most efficient, so it took forever when one family would order 3 – 4 items. Just not my best Jeni’s experience, I’m afraid.

I’m a big fan of this ice cream — yeah I know I shouldn’t be eating it but ice cream has always, always been my favorite dessert. So when I really feel like I need some Jeni’s answers that need very well. There are some serious flavors here — good thing they aren’t closer to my house or I would be 500 pounds!
The nice thing about this location is that you can grab something super hot from Gu’s, slug down a couple of pints from Hop City, and finish up with a cup from Jeni’s — the perfect culinary trifecta!
The service here is top-​notch to boot!

Friendly staff! With all the big crowd coming through nonstop, they were cool to let you try every flavor and even recommend their favorites or popular item. I love the unique flavor they have and also the seasonal items.
Depending in my mood I would get lavender and honey/​pistachio combo or almond brittle with churro.
I also went to the location in West Midtown and prefer this location! The staff here is nicer and the wait isn’t an hour long.

All you need to know about this place is that this is an ice cream lovers dream. Fun, unique and delicious flavors, a friendly staff, and a cool ambiance make this a go to place for your ice cream cravings.
I’ve tried several different flavors there and none disappointed. I love the root beer and peanut butter buckeye among others. You can tell that this ice cream is made from superior quality ingredients and a lot of care is put into the production and presentation. For some it may be a tad on the pricier side, but it’s so worth it! I just wish there was a location closer to gwinnett county. But for me if I’m in the area, I make it a point to stop by Jeni’s, it’s that good!

Brown.Butter.Almond.Brittle. That’s it. All that needs to be said. The greatest combination of flavors in ice cream history. God’s gift to humanity. A reason for cows to consider commercials other than the famous Atlanta based Chicken Sandwich place. Ahhhhhhh. (The skies open up and glorious singing rings down from above.)
I am sure that there are other great flavors at Jeni’s. But this stuff is addictive. And awesome. Don’t let the lines deter you — let them encourage your sense of taste. This is a phenomenal experience that should really be only couched in religious terms.
Krog Street has 20 minute parking — which is just enough time to guarantee that when you get in you can get out with ice cream in hand. The folks who serve are cool and friendly and it’s the best space in town — short of Ponce City Market. But get the Brown Butter Almond Brittle and your life will improve. Your wifi will seem as if it will always be free and at 5 bars. Your grocery store receipts will be shorter and have all the discounts you expected. It is that good people.

Jeni’s is a fun addition to Krog Street Market. Walking by it on the way in, I almost always plan on getting ice cream after my meal, and on the way out I’m almost always too full. Luckily for me, I sometimes I find a way to make room (or make a trip to the market just for ice cream!). One of the fun things about Jeni’s is their unique ice cream flavors — lavender is great. Most of the time, though, I can’t stop myself from just getting chocolate (I love chocolate!), so I can confirm that the classic flavors are just as good!

I make decisions based on how I feel about the salted caramel flavor ice creams. For those of you who don’t follow buzzfeed, jenis was one of the top ice cream places in the world! So naturally I had to come here. I happened to just see it and recognized it. I loved the salted caramel ice cream. I also tried the lavender or something of the sort and thought it was unique in taste and very good. This is on my top list for sure! Check it out.

I haven’t been to any of the other Jeni’s locations yet, so I’m not sure how to compare them to this one aside from other ice cream boutique shops.
Service — I would say each attendant has always had a smile on their face to assist the lines of customers. From providing samples to just answering questions as to what is in each flavor of ice cream.
Ice cream — The majority of the flavors kind of changed since my two separate visits so I’m not sure which is my favorite.
Let’s see, churro tasted a bit too rich for my liking.
Torrone — the description makes it sound super rich, but I thought it was pretty mellow.
Brown Butter almond brittle — this was also surprisingly not that rich to my taste.

So many yummy looking flavors! We went with the Churro and the Salted Caramel, which were both delicious! We had found Jeni’s ice cream before in a pint at a local shop, so we decided to go out of our way to get some ice cream (yes, we went all the way to Krog Street Market for ice cream), and, yes, it was worth it! Highly recommend this place. Not only does their ice taste good, they have a lot of other delicious looking flavors, and the service is great too!

Folks. The hype for the third one is the real deal.
My boo-​thang and I stopped by this Jeni’s location (Krog Street Market) last night, looking for dessert post-​dinner. There was no line post-​9pm on a Tuesday (which totally makes sense), and we dropped the sampling hammer. I decided to get a scoop of my favorites
I. ICE CREAM
*Churro: It actually has pieces of churro in it, folks. It’s not just cinnamon and brown sugar. Yas yas yas yas.
*Double Toasted Coconut: Really smokey (interesting) and as one can imagine, very coconut-​y. Put this in my mouth, errday.
II. SERVICE
They’re very patient and nice. They don’t mind me asking them to let me sample a million flavors.
III. ATMOSPHERE/​DÉCOR
They have a section in Krog Street, so it doesn’t have it’s own brick and mortar. Find it diagonal from Grand Champion BBQ and in one of the corners of the market.
IV. PRICES
Did y’all read that they have churro ice cream? Give them your money!!! But fo’real, it’s a pretty penny for a scoop. The ice cream is worth the money, though.
V. OVERALL
I would eat this churro ice cream everyday. And every time I indulge in Jeni’s, I become more of a fan.

Good premium ice cream and the staff lets you taste as many flavors as you like. They also provide great advise about what you may like (if the line is not too long). I enjoy building a bowl with different flavors and creating a personal favorite.
The darkest dark chocolate has a strong chocolate flavor and is not bitter.
Vanilla is a juiced up with lavender and honey. This adds a twist to basic sundae.

Jeni’s ice cream never disappoints. If you’re lucky, you’ll catch them without a long line. Their sweet cream is my favorite — simple, but delicious. They have seasonal ice creams and sorbets, so don’t be shy about trying them all! Just be courteous if there’s a long line of people behind you. They also sell ice cream sandwiches and pints.

Can’t go wrong with a homemade, from scratch ice cream shop like Jeni’s. The staff is always very friendly and welcoming and asking if you want to try something. If you take the time to taste a few, you’re bound to find one you love. I already have a favorite I don’t like to stray from often, but as the goat cheese and cherry flavor has been out of stock the last few months, I’ve branched out to find new favorites like the peanut butter and dark chocolate flakes flavor, mango lassi, or the toasted coconut flavor.
While I only tasted the purple flavor once, I really appreciated the ingenuity Jeni’s exhibited this past summer (2015) where it ventured to express the flavor of colors. There was a yellow flavor, a black flavor, a purple flavor, etc. The flavor concoctions can get pretty adventurous, which can make them really fun to try. And thankfully, for the purists, there’s always some jacked up chocolate or vanilla flavor, as well.
Lately, the staff have been placing waffle wedges in with the bowls of ice cream I order. I really like how a small size involves two scoops, and you can choose two flavors with no extra charge! I also like how knowledgeable the staff is. More than once I’ve asked for their advice on which flavor I should choose to best pair with my first choice.
Walking around Krog Street Market gets particularly wonderful as you’re nearing Jeni’s; the smell of the shop wafts down the hallway all the way to the BBQ joint. Seating may be interesting as there isn’t any reserved specifically for Jeni’s customers. If you come on a busy weekend night, chairs will be scarce, but you could always walk around and have dessert on the go.

Hmmm, I’ve been to the original and not that impressed by the Atlanta store in the Krog Street Market. Tried the Tin Roof Sundae, not an ice cream flavor but actual sundae. The peanuts tasted «old» — you know that musty peanut flavor — and it really just made the ice cream taste blah. Scott had a cone with root beer ice cream and raspberry sorbet. The raspberry was amazing. $ 15 for 2 is a high price to pay for a cone and stale peanuts.

I’m OBSESSED with Jeni’s brown butter almond brittle ice cream. It’s absolutely the best. It’s really rich and decadent. So far, it is the best thing I’ve had at Jeni’s but their Vanilla Bean and Salty Caramel are both also really tasty.
I really love salted caramel and I’ve got to say — I wasn’t absolutely blown away by their ice cream. It was honestly almost TOO salty. Just be prepared.

Jeni’s ice cream is so good! I love that a small gives you two ½ scoops so that you don’t have to pick just one flavor. The darkest chocolate is my personal favorite but I love dark chocolate! Each cup of ice cream also comes with a piece of waffle cone inside. YUM!

This was my first time trying this place out and I’m already in love with the place! Also am a huge fan of unique flavors! The workers were both really helpful. I didn’t catch their names (even though it was on their name tags). but they gave EXCELLENT customer service! I’d recommend this place to everyone! I love it! I love it! I love it! Yes! That’s how much I love the place!

The girl recommended Wildberry Lavender & Lemon Frozen Yogurt. And OH EM GEEEE. it was a burst of flavor! The sweetness of the wild berry and a punch of lavender, then comes the sourness of the lemon. all combined into one and you get this awesome flavor of everything in your mouth and your taste buds all go «WHHEEEEEEE». yep. that’s my slice of Heaven! Right there! lol
The guy let me try these flavors (let me see if I remember the names).
Black Currant Frozen Yogurt — very sour and tasted a lil bit of the black currant fruit
Maybe it’d be good with another kind of ice cream. But eating it by itself was too much sour for me. same goes the Lemon Frozen Yogurt.
Darkest Dark Chocolate — bitter but not too much of it. So it was bitter, then sweet. I liked it.
Darkest Milk Chocolate — the guy told me it tasted like chocolate milk and he was right! No wow factor there.
So I got the half scoop Wildberry Lavender and half scoop of the Lemon Frozen Yogurt! And I was so happy with my choice!

After two closures and reopenings due to Listeria contamination in their production facility (May 22 and June 20, 2015), Jeni’s appears to finally be open for good again.
This Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams «Scoop Shop» is located inside Krog Street Market. It originally opened November 2014, the same month the Decatur location opened. This outpost is a stall at the market, so there’s no walk-​in space like the Westside Provisions and Decatur Square locations. It’s smaller, but the same inventive and delicious ice cream flavors can be found here.
This Jeni’s stocks roughly two dozen flavors at any given time, both seasonal and limited edition flavors plus regular staples. Jeni’s ice creams are produced in Columbus, Ohio and shipped to its various Scoop Shops nationwide. The Brambleberry Crisp you have on Krog Street should taste exactly the same as the Brambleberry Crisp on Howell Mill Road.
As of July 8, 2015, prices are as follows:
Small (two scoops) — $ 5
Trio (three scroops) $ 6
Study (four half scoops) — $ 7
Single Sundae — $ 6
Double Sundae — $ 7.50
Toppings are extra. Try one of the «gravels» such as the Salty Graham Gravel which is made of crushed graham crackers, salt, and butter.
Jeni’s ice creams are generally smooth, rich, and scrumptious. The interesting flavor combinations actually taste like their descriptions and work well in ice cream form. Color me consistently impressed with standby flavors like Bangkok Peanut with its peppery finish and the tangy Goat Cheese with Red Cherries. Some of my reliable favorites include Brown Butter Almond Brittle, Ndali Estate Vanilla Bean (created with Ugandan Ndali Estate vanilla beans), and the simple Coffee with Cream & Sugar.
Ask for samples. I discovered a couple new flavors at this location: Milk Chocolate Bombay N.3 and Toasted Brioche with Butter & Jam. These flavors are particularly unique. The Chocolate Bombay contains a curry spice blend that includes clove and fenugreek for a distinct Indian flair. It’s very unusual, but tasty. The Brioche ice cream has a sharp and sweet apricot jam that is quite good. If these flavors are available on your visit, give them a whirl.
The ice cream sandwiches ($ 6 each) are terrific. They’re large, individually wrapped in plastic and boxed. The sandwiches are thick, stuffed with not-​too-​dense ice cream fillings, and the cookies are gratifyingly chewy. I’m no ice cream sandwich connoisseur, but Jeni’s ice cream sandwiches are among the best I’ve had. Chocolate Truffle with White Chocolate Peppermint FTW.
Service is fine.
Krog Street Market has several free parking options. There are two open-​air lots, one at Krog Street and Lake Avenue and the other at Krog Street and Irwin Street. You can park inside the Stove Works parking deck across the street. Finally, there’s complimentary valet available at the market (entry via Krog Street).

I had no idea Jeni’s was in the Krog Street Market … till last night for an UYE! Excellent place to be since the Market is filled with restaurants/​pop ups. #smartbusinessmove
As for parking, I parked in the deck that had the Stove Works sign above the gravel entrance. It was free. Luckily Daniel B saw it on Twitter before the UYE! I’m a midtown noob still and was seriously debating about parking… but yay for parking decks. The deck itself is huge, definitely a good size for the amount of people who go there.
TIP: do not park under Level 1, those spots are for valet cars. Not sure if you get a ticket if you do, but I am not one to test that theory, ha.
Jeni’s Ice Cream… I love it. I’ve tried it multiple times. But my fav is the milkiest chocolate. I’m a chocolate ice cream fan. Nom. The ice cream is soft, so flavorful & enriching.
Service — the folks are always nice. I’ve been to the Westside one too and I’ve never had a bad experience with them either.
Seating — There are seats all over the Market, so you’re bound to find one somewhere. If you’re like me and still new to this side of town. Grab an ice cream and take a short walk inside the Market!
