Beautiful sushi presentation by this Korean-run restaurant serving Japanese fare. My daughter got the eel rice bowl and said it was phenomenal. It must have been, because I looked up and it had vanished. The rest of us tucked into the sushi and rolls. Very fresh fish and a great combination of flavors. I’m excited to come back and try more things from the menu.

One of my friends suggested this place as a good outing, so we’d gone today. Around a bunch of businesses with Korean-language signs, and having a staff primarily with Koreans, I came to expect that Kang Nam would be basically Korean. How they would interpret the Japanese part, I’d have no idea. I got there a little early, but it looked like they were not particularly busy. I sat in their waiting area outside the glass door entrance to the dining hall(with several handwritten, bold signs indicating one must PUSH to open the door) and waited for my friend to arrive. It seems they get a mixed clientele, but it’s a good sign when you see Koreans coming into a Korean establishment and speaking Korean to the staff. My friend got in and the host sat us at a table(with probable prompting from one of the attendants at the sushi bar, who said«Table! Table!»), and brought the menus. I’d previewed it online and thought I would probably do their basic sashimi main dish, but I did have questions on what they’d meant by «sides and miso soup.» Did that mean I’d have to choose the sides, or do they just come? Our server didn’t seem to understand the first couple times I’d asked, but she’d finally gotten the gist and explained it would be four sides that came with the dinner, her listing what they would be somewhat unsurely(whether it was expressing what they were in English, or remembering what they were, I still am not sure). My friend decided on three different California roll combinations, and for beverages I’d asked for a hot tea and my friend, a water. The hot tea, which smelled kind of like barley tea but not the same color, was slightly warmer than tepid, but I’d drank it all the same. Pretty soon, the miso soup came out along with salads, and then within a minute, the four sides: kimchi, two other Korean dishes I can’t remember, and a seaweed salad-like dish. The miso soup, like the tea, was not all that hot, but it tasted pretty nice. The surprise was another two plates of food that came. Different from the sides, they were curved dishes with three divisions and different foods on it. Neither of use were entirely sure where it came from, but it was pretty good regardless(one of which was octopus). The next surprise was the serving size of our main courses: my friend got 24 rolls total, and I’d gotten a heaping of four different types of sashimi. The presentation was nice, although some of the sashimi pieces looked like the knife might have caught on them mid-slice. The wasabi was reasonably, if not unevenly, spicy. They do provide reduced sodium and full sodium soy sauce alternatives, as well as some other condiments I’d meant to look at but the conversation was too good for me to remember to. Again, it was pretty good. The serving sizes pretty much explain the price of it all, and the flavor was respectable, though not spectacular. The environment is conducive to talking, with various relatively old songs playing in the background, and staff that were attentive. The asking twice if we’d wanted ice cream was kind of funny, but we’d rolled with it. With one more top-up of the tea(hotter that time) and the water, we’d finished our conversations and said good evening.

I tried the unagi(eel over rice) and kalbi. Total bill is about $ 40. White pricy ! 8+ for unagi. But 6, or 7 for the kalbi, on my book. The lunch special deal looks good, but I am not sure about the portion.

The asian restaurants around Buford Hwy are all usually more authentic. In my opinion this makes their food taste better. Unfortunately, I believe that Kang Nam does not meet that standard. I ordered the Donkatsu, a traditional Japanese dish. It was a very mediocre tasting plate, and considering the Japanese food competition around the area, it was absolutely not worth the $ 17 that the dish costed. It fried pork was too rough, and for $ 17 the portion was certainly not generous enough. The service was very poor. The staff offered us hot tea or water, we choose hot tea. When the tea arrive it was quite cold. Why offer it then? Furthermore, we never received half of my order or any refills of our hot(cold) teas. The ambiance is very casual. Its a small Japanese restaurant that doesn’t seem very appealing in any way. Other than some Korean staff, the restaurant is very much more Japanese than it is Korean in terms of food. The staff was friendly at the end of the day, it just seems like the whole restaurant was very lackluster. It doesn’t seem like they are trying to serve good food or maximize customer satisfaction. It seems like they are just trying to get by.

Hmmmm… this was an interesting restaurant to frequent in the Atlanta area. It serves traditional Far East cuisine, primarily focusing on Korean and Japanese dishes. Product: From what I can tell, they sell truly traditional Korean and Japanese fare, including kim chee, sushi, sashimi, gyozo, and other stuff I’ve never come across before. If you do not have an adventurous spirit, I strongly suggest going with the dishes you are familiar with on their menu, as many of the more exotic dishes are an acquired taste. I found the place to be a bit on the expensive side, but the quality of food was decent. 3 stars Service: This is a sit-down and order, full-service restaurant. I found the service to be okay, if a bit slow, particularly given that there were few customers when we were sat. 3 stars Facilities: Nestled a couple of hundred feet off the main highway, there is ample, if worn, parking in front of the building. The establishment, if I recall, shared space in the building with another business. Outside, it looks drab, but inside is a completely different story altogether. There are many short walls in the restaurant, giving a modicum of privacy to just about all the tables. There are also niche rooms for even more privacy. We sat at one of the regular tables which was comfortable enough. The entire establishment is heavily decorated with traditional Korean and Japanese art. 3 stars Overall: A quite… interesting experience. I would suggest you check it out for yourself if you’re in the Atlanta area for lunch or dinner. I think if I went again I’d ask to be sat in one of the more private alcoves. I hear it’s fun for small groups. 3 stars

Things to order: All Day Special: lobster sashimi, flounder sashimi, fish(lobster) stew and pumpkin soup for two persons. I passed this restaurant for several years, thinking how can Korean restaurant do sushi right. But so glad that I tried it finally. They offer lobster sashimi. Surprise! The combo’s price is surprisingly good($ 54.99). Adding some appetizers, you are good to go. This is the only place that I found lobster and flounder sashimi in Atlanta. The lobster was soft and fresh. I never know lobster could be this tasty. Eventually, what left inside lobster will become a lobster soup/stew in a Korean way. Yum, yum. There’re also PUMPKINSOUP and ICECREAM come with it. How can I not love it?! We also ordered extra flounder sashimi, but it was not as fresh as the one in the combo, somehow. I would definitely come back for more lobsters.

Took a friend here for lunch today and we both thoroughly enjoyed our meals. I got the sashimi box and she the sushi box along with the rainbow roll. Amazing! So much delicious food and a decent price. Will definitely be going back!

I think this place has new chefs and under new management. I have been to this locations 2 or 3 years ago and I remember it being operated by Japanese sushi chefs; they use to greet all guests entering and leaving the restaurant in Japanese. I think it’s more of a Korean/Japanese fusion now. My boyfriend loves sushi and with my past experience at this location I wanted to take him here. We arrived before this larger group of 6. The hostess greeted the group behind us and seated them before us; maybe they had reservations. who knows. After waiting a few minutes I told my boyfriend to get her attention to ask how long the wait would be. She told him it would be around 10 – 15 mins which was fine and we waited. While we stood there waiting, a father and son walked in and asked for a table for 2 and they were seated immediately. At this point I was getting annoyed. I think the hostess noticed her mistake as soon as she saw me and asked the other customers to give up their table for us. As soon as we were seated they took our drinks and food orders. The food came out pretty quickly. Their ginger starter salad and their seafood udon was so tasty. As far as their sushi goes. I was a bit disappointed. It looked amazing on plate but fell short on taste. We ordered 5 rolls and I only really enjoyed 2 out of the 5. Overall the food this time was ok. nothing out of the ordinary. I think I had higher expectations since I remembered the place having REALLY good sushi in the past. I probably won’t be going back here.

Holy lunch Batman! So much delicious food. Korean Bento Boxes is all I need to say. But let me say more. Comes with soup and salad, kimchi, seaweed salad, noodle salad Great selections. I had the spicy pork Bento and it was the noms. Comes with tempura, Cali roll, fried rice, another salad and noodle salad. So two redundancies, but noms redundancies.

Great service and good sushi. I didn’t understand any of the menu. But they have a sushi menu with about 30 – 40 different types of sushi. Had me reading all night trying to figure out which one to get. The place is oddly setup but I quickly got accustomed to it and started eating. Most people tables were covered with differs bowls and plates of food. So they give u a lot. I would like to go back again to try more sushi!

My friends and I came here for dinner on Saturday night around 6:30pm. We didn’t have a reservation but they were willing to accommodate our group of 8. There wasn’t a lot of room for people waiting, but they seated us in a 6 person table to wait. The staff even brought two extra chairs so that everyone could sit while waiting. Talk about great customer service! We ended up ordering the Kang Nam Special($ 150) which comes with 11 Kinds of sashimi with side dishes, rice with fish roe and a large spicy fish soup. We also ordered galbi($ 20) and bulgogi($ 18) because we had a friend that didn’t eat raw foods. I personally don’t think the glabi and bulgogi are worth that much, but the sashimi combos(chef’s special) is worth it when you share with a group of people. For our Kang Nam special, we each got a rice porridge to start. We also had fried tofu, potato croquette(with cheese inside), grilled yellowtail collar bone, and steamed kabocha(japanese pumpkin) as appetizers. Then our sushi platters came. We had with just assorted sashimi and one with rolls and sushi. The quality of the sashimi was great. They even took the fish bone decoration in the middle of our meal to grill it for us to eat. After we finished our sashimi/sushi platters, we got corn cheese, a sashimi salad, roe over rice(small Al bab), and the spicy fish soup. Our meal then ended with a scoop of strawberry ice cream. With all this food we were completely full! We were worried there wasn’t going to be enough since sashimi isn’t a lot usually, but with all the small plates they bring you, the combo meals definitely fill you up and is a great way to sample a little bit of everything. We ended up paying about $ 25 per person for this meal(others who had sake paid around $ 30 per meal). I recommend this place if you’re coming in large groups, they have private rooms for large groups and the sashimi combos are a great value to split among a big group. Make sure to make a reservation to avoid a wait!

I like to go to kang nam with a group of ppl and order the big VIP combo stuff. Their sashimi combo stuff really worth the price, even tho they might looks scary($ 100ish) but, you won’t regrets if you are sashimi lover. Not only the main course sashimi, all their sides, soup and salad that came with the mean are awesome. It’s hard to list all here since I can’t remember all the names but do view my photo and that will explain everything.

This place has its hits and misses like the service when it is super busy and the flavor time to time. However, it’s one of my favorite Korean sushi places where they really give you a full course meal. My typical lunch item that I gravitate towards is the fish roe soup and hwedupbop, which is like Korean style chirashi bowl but with mostly white fish and veggies. It comes out in a HUGE bowl, size of a cheese wheel and you put the red sauce, chojang, and rice and mix it all around. The roe soup is just a side piece but perfect portion to enjoy with your meal and is very refreshing. For those that want to splurge and are super hungry, I go for their special courses that comes with 5+ items from pumpkin soup, sushi, sashimi, tempera, grilled fish, eel, and roe soup. Oh, and one of my favorite, the topika rice where they put all different types of the small fish eggs and you mix it and enjoy. End it all with their scoop of ice cream and your belly will be pretty happy with you.

Eating at Kang Nam was one of the best decisions my family made during our trip to Atlanta. My family stopped by this place after reading all the great reviews. This place lived up to all the hype! The portions are humongous, so get ready to eat! I got the hwe-dup-bap which came in a huge bowl and the ingredients were really fresh. My parents got the sashimi lunch box and they both enjoyed it too. After the meal the waiter brought us a scoop of vanilla ice cream which was a nice way to end the meal. On top of the phenomenal food, the service was quick and the staff was friendly. Definitely stop by for amazing food and great service!

«Let’s skip out on the wiki facts and focus on the food. I’m trying to find out what to order on the Unilocal app before the server gets back.» [Time & Date of visit]: Multiple weekday and weekend nights. [Party Size]: 2−10+ large groups. [Location/Ambiance]: Parking — the lot hasn’t ever been fully packed. But Some people do get confused about the entrance and sometimes turn into the eye dr building instead. DON’T try to jump the curb, unless you have a bro’ truck or something lifted that high. Inside — It’s larger than it is, with more private rooms tucked in along the walls. Don’t let the front area full you. Restroom — Along the hallway to the right of the sushi bar. Single room /stall, so you’ll have to wait one by one ladies. [Service]: It’s been fairly consistent throughout the years, even without a token Korean friend to accompany me and/or my group. So one spot you can count on they won’t be snobby to any non-Korean Asians. Sometimes beverage refills can be a little lagging but most times they eventually catch up on checking the tables. I don’t think food times have really been an issue. What has been an issue is the check if you have a large group. Try to keep a tab on what you order and the prices. [Food Highlights]: Take it as good or bad but majority of all the sushi rolls have been slightly better than ok. It’s not food-gasmic but not Ru-San’s craptastic either. I would say this is a middle of the road for a sushi place if you are feeling on splurging but still want a good meal. Since this is a Korean establishment, accompanying the usual ginger dressed salad and miso soup are various banchan. I’m not sure if they switch it up depending on the day, but I like the bean sprouts and glass noodles. The tofu is a meh. Haven’t really tried anything else such as the ramen or other korean dishes, so I can’t say how they taste. [Total Bill w/Tip & Tax]: Usually 3 rolls with tax comes up to almost or low $ 30’s. {Summary}: A pretty good sushi spot without breaking the bank. Good for groups or just a duo. If you’re dining solo, there’s always a spot at the sushi bar as well. Good eats that’s affordable. I wish I could put 3.5 stars, but I’ll tip toe it and put it as 4 as I feel they have been consistent.

Kang Nam is a Korean styled Sushi restaurant. I’ve been to Kang Nam couple times back in the days, but I was never a big fan of it because I was never served fresh sashimi and quality of overall restaurant was below standard. Lately, I’ve heard that the owner of the restaurant changed and heard pretty good reviews so I decided to check it out, also due to the fact that my go-to restaurant, Naru Sushi in Duluth, has been slacking recently. I ordered the sashimi combo and couple bottles of alcohol. Like many other Korean sushi restaurants, sashimi combo comes out with A LOT of appetizers before the main meal. Kang Nam’s appetizers were top notch and better than most of the places I’ve tried. There were some appetizers I saw for the first time, and a lot of ‘em were very delicious. This was a definite improvement compared to before. Now, the main thing I came here for. Sashimi & other seafood. All the sashimi was in top quality and very fresh. I haven’t had this good of sashimi in awhile. Sashimi platter contained flounder, salmon, toro, hamachi, white tuna, and saba. Seafood platter was good but some menus could’ve been more fresh. Seafood platter contained abalone, sea cucumber, Uni, Sea Cucumber, Mirugai, and raw shrimps. Middle of the meal, head sushi chef served us a premium slice of toro and ankimo on the house. It definitely made up for some seafood items that could’ve been fresher. All in all, I was really impressed with the improvement and will be back again.

Woah, I was impressed. I had average hopes going in b/c the outside looks just average but I really like this place. You enter to a friendly staff. They were very helpful in explaining the dishes and bringing us things we requested. I can’t remember the name but we ordered a large sushi and sashimi dish for the entire group. The sushi plate was very good. The quality was fresh and well prepared. The sashimi dish was amazing as well except it came with the funky looking stuff I don’t care for. I’ll just order sashimi without that funky stuff next time. We also got veggie tempura which came out hot and fresh. We added some rolls to the dish as well. They bring out a lot of starters that are included with the sashimi and sushi plates. They were all tasty and presentable. The sushi chef himself brought out the food. The place is a good size with some private rooms for larger parties. I’m going to try their lunch stuff next time. I would recommend this place.

Before heading north to to catch our plane in SC, we got some Korean food, Kang nam style! There are so many Korean restaurants on Buford, and we couldn’t double check easily since we were driving, but I seem to recall my friend Addy having high ratings for this place. Not the neatest or most modern décor, but it does have a feel of a Korean or Japanese establishment — as if I’m some authority on what THEY look like :) It took a while to find our bearing with the 3 different menus. We both settled on the boxes, since some of the other interesting choices suggested there would be too much food: my wife chose the Bulgogi box, and I, the salmon($ 11⁄13). There’s certainly no lack of quantity in what we got: miso soup and 3 banchans to start, followed by a box teeming with food quality that’s just a small step behind. I do wish the salad had more water shaken out of it, and wasabi that’s a little more potent, but both meat and wish were tender and tasty, with the Bulgogi eking out a narrow victory. It was also odd that the rice(supposedly hot) went with the cold sushi, instead of being where the sauce might be. I had a Korean beer(Hite) to go with it — served in an interesting manner. The bottle is brought to the table with a small glass, and an opener deposited with them! Must come from some ancient need to reassure the customer that it’s genuine bottled beer, not one filled with other unauthorized substances. I polished off everything, thus paying the price not only with my credit card that day, but also on the scale the next day. And for my efforts, we got dessert: strawberry or chocolate ice cream that our waitress hastened to add is included. Both were good. Service was polite and deferential, even if they resolutely left our boxes there even as we were slurping up the last of the ice cream — may be another outdated Korean custom? All in all, between 4 or 5 stars; we were pleased, and we would return to try other things, unless Addy has another recommendation.
