Great Thai food, had curry chicken last time I went and it was incredible. really good Thai food.

I’ve eaten here several times over the past few years. You won’t be wowed by the atmosphere but the food has always been good and the service, friendly. I would(and do) recommend it to friends.

My Favorite Thai Place — Good prices for authentic Thai food. Get the the Thai Iced Tea — Its sweet with a strong taste. I’m a fan of the: Tom Kha Soup, Chicken Curry Fried Rice, and the Masaman Chicken Curry. You get enough food affordably with excellent service.

We have been going to the King & I for 20 years and after getting take out tonight we will NOT be returning. After our other favorite Intown Thai restaurant(Ma Li) suffered a decline, we decided to give this old favorite our regular take out business. They will not be getting that business. Unfortunately, two great Thai restaurants have left Atlanta.

Ive been eating here since the early 1990’s. I had dinner here tonight. I was disappointed to found out there are new owners since Oct. 2011. It is not as good and I won’t be going back. So bummed.

Ive been here several times and never walked out before. It is obvious the place has new owners. No service, decreased menu and not the same warmth it use to have. I walked out and went up the hill to Bangkok Thai.

Found a dead insect in my rice. Okay, so I haven’t eaten here since the owner Tom apparently sold the business(according to other reviewers). The décor has improved slightly, the staff has turned over, the menu has totally changed, but most importantly the food has deteriorated. 1. Tom Yum Soup. Came as described in the menu, but overall had the off-taste that chicken gets when you have boiled it too long… it was pungent, but not the worst chicken preparation I have ever had. 2. Seafood Madness. This comes with the ingredients described in the menu, and it is passable, albeit a little too sweet, and the flavor is not very complex. I would have expected a more savory flavor constellation, especially at this price. 3. Steamed Rice(with added Ant protein) It is not hard to get rice right. I make rice all the time. Long grain, Basmati, Jasmine, brown. Never had a problem. Never found bugs in rice that I have cooked. But the real factor that prompted me to write a review was that I found a dead ant steamed right into the rice at King & I. Granted, it wasn’t that giant kind of ant that would be obvious to most. In fact, I thought it might be some small spice or seed, until i took a macro picture with my camera. Don’t freak, but I ate the rest of the rice anyway(because I was damn hungry), and I didn’t identify any more insects, although these are small enough to easily miss. Needless to say, this was enough of a turnoff that I won’t be heading back to King & I. You can see the picture of the grain of rice with the adherent ant in the picture I uploaded

The King & I has undergone an ownership change. The previous owner, Tom, now hangs his shingle at Zen On Ten. His wife was the chef at King & I and when she decided to retire, the restaurant was sold. Her deft hand is definitely missed in the kitchen and the food is less interesting and not quite as good.

After a long weekend of traveling, my husband and I were craving Thai food(you know, the kind that feeds your soul). Thai food in the ATL is definitely a hit or a miss and King and I was a HIT! It was exactly what we needed and exceeded our expectations! We ordered the spring rolls, pad thai, and panang curry — everything was excellent. The only reason I’m giving this place 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the atmosphere. It’s located in an older run down strip mall in Midtown — a truly wonderful hole in the wall.

Came by here today after my boyfriend and I went autocrossing at Turner Field since it was relatively near by and I was meaning to stop by again for another try of this place. Ordered the tom yum soup with shrimp, pad thai, beef penang curry, and thai tea. The soup was loaded with flavor and definitely had a spicy kick to it! I was not expecting it! They also added different ingredients that what I’m use to, such as tomatoes. It was flavorful and good to eat/drink, but not better than other Thai places I’ve been too. The pad thai was good, as mentioned in my previous review, but this time, it seemed a bit lacking on the flavor? Maybe the spice in the soup gave my taste buds a bit of trouble, but it wasn’t as good as I originally thought. Boyfriend said the penang curry was good, but it didn’t leave an impression on him like it did at Siamese Basil. But he said that it was still worth getting. I’ve never had Thai Tea before so I don’t have much to go on, but it was definitely an intriguing, yet flavorful taste, and something that I might acquire myself to start liking. It is definitely worth trying out. The service here was excellent though and the ladies were very kind to us throughout our entire visit and constantly checked up on us and even boxed our stuff to go. Overall, it’s a cool place to try out!

This is, hands down, the best Thai restaurant I have ever been to. Even better than Thai of Norcross, which I use to set the standard. This place is tucked away in an old strip mall, and the thought of safety was a little questionable, but I was reassured by my date that I needn’t worry. The restaurant is small and has a very attentive wait staff. We ordered the spring rolls, pad see-ew, and siam tofu. The spring rolls were super crispy. The pad see-ew had a sweetness to it that left an impression on me that I had never tasted before, and the siam tofu had the perfect amount of spiciness and flavor. So, just ignore your surroundings and you will feel like you’re in Thai food heaven when you come!

Why am I wanting to start this review by commenting on the stores surrounding this place? Porn shop to the right, loud and rowdy techno playing sports bar to the left. Yeah. Through the nice Asian music playing in the restaurant came the steady hard beat of techno coming from next door. Anywho. The strip is old and the place looks kinda dumpy. However that coconut soup with the chicken(which was ordered based on the reviews) was the shiiizzzznit! For real, I was lovin that soup and the bowl didn’t look like anything had ever been in it when I got done. Yeah, it’s like that. We also ordered the Thai pad(or is the pad Thai) which I thought was excellent. I didn’t know that I liked this dish so much. Oh, but it was good and it got handled. We got some ginger chicken as well. That was just okay, nothing I would order again. Oh yeah, we also had the smokey Thai sweet chili chicken wings and I was disappointed in them. I just felt that the sauce needed something else and because that something was missing, it fell flat. The service was gets an A+ though. We were thirsty. They understood it. I like that. Also, our server had flare, believe that! That soup and that pad Thai(or vice versa) might call me back here.

King & I is tucked into the Ansley Mall shopping center. The shopping center as a whole does not look the greatest. When we walked in, there were not very many diners — maybe two to three tables of small parties. They all happened to be Caucasian. Throughout our time there, a lot of diners came in, mostly Caucasian as well. I did not see any other Asians there other than us and the people working there. We ordered the wings with sweet chili sauce for around $ 4.95. They gave us eight pieces, which the BF said was a good amount considering the price. The wings were pretty darn tasty. They weren’t all that spicy to me, but I could definitely tell there was a kick to them. I ordered the Massaman curry with chicken($ 9.95). It came with tender chicken breast, cashews, thin slices of avocado and onion. Nearby, Bangkok Thai serves their version with potatoes and green bell peppers in addition to the other ingredients for a dollar more. However, I favor King & I’s version more because of the flavorful curry and the avocado. I am not normally a fan of avocado, but the avocado they used was so fresh and I liked it thinly sliced and placed on top of the curry rather than cut in thick chunks and mixed in the curry. Both restaurants are fairly stingy on the cashews, though. BF ordered the pad thai($ 8.95) and deemed it fine, but not as good as Bangkok Thai. Hmm… this will pose a dilemma seeing as both restaurants have superior dishes that we both like. Service was excellent. Water glasses were filled even though only a few sips of water were taken. Our server also took care to fill the glasses in such a way that he was not leaning across the table in front of us. They timed the dishes so our entrees were brought out swiftly after we had finished the last chicken wing. Our dinner came out to $ 25.75 before tip. Very reasonable. I think this is one of the cheaper Thai places in Atlanta. This place is definitely my go-to for Massaman curry.

Great lunch specials for $ 6.95 and $ 7.95 — except it doesn’t include salad or soup like other Thai restaurants. The food is very good so that won’t stop me from returning :) Service is friendly, and the food is very good. Portions are family-style and generous — during my 2 visits, I had enough leftovers for a 2nd meal. If you have 2 people in your party, I’d recommend 2 entrees, share(for variety), and both of you will likely have enough leftovers for a 2nd meal. BASILROLL — $ 2.95 The basil roll had pork & shrimp — pretty good. PENANGCHICKEN — $ 7.95 I’ve had the penang chicken and beef — both are very good. Penang has always been my favorite Thai curry. Also came w/broccoli, red peppers, hot peppers, and sweet basil. HOTGARLICCHICKEN W/VEGGIES — $ 7.95 Spicy dish but great flavor. Definitely would order again. PADSEEEW — $ 7.50 Almost all noodles and chicken — sadly only a few broccoli. Probably wouldn’t get again due to the lack of veggies. I will be back for sure.

This is kind of what I look for in a Thai restaurant. Super casual, a little bit«hole-in-the-wall»(I use that term liberally, here), not like those over-priced overly dressed up «trendy» Thai places. In California, we have tons of hole-in-the-wall, no frill Thai places. That’s what I’m used to and that’s what I like. That’s pretty much what King & I offers, along with some solid noodles without crazy price tags. Good pad thai and good pad se ewe. Nothing to jump up and go crazy about, but the flavors were right on and familiar. That’s all I ask. Thing is… I felt a little sick later that night. Boyfriend did a little too. I can’t say with confidence that it was related to dinner, but it might be something to think about. I’d try it again — will let you know if it doesn’t go so well the next time… will knock a star or two off as well. But for now, I’m a fan.

Been coming here over the years and it’s always been really good to me. Just ate dinner with the family here tonight and we enjoyed a good solid meal for a decent price. 5 entrees, 2 bowls of soup, 2 appetizers, and a sprite for exactly $ 77.70. We had the Papaya salad and the chicken wraps for appetizers, 2 bowls of the hot and sour soup, 1 order of the spicy duck roast, 1 basil chicken, 1 King and I pad thai, 1penang beef, and 1 more penang beef to go. I know exactly what we ordered, because I’m the one that did all the ordering and the one that did all the paying tonight, but since it was my family I was more than happy to do so. All the food was delicious, and I never get that nasty feeling after eating here. Service was above average. This joint is located on the back side of Ansley mall and there’s another Thai restaurant located in the same shopping center called Bangkok something. Definitely worth checking out if you like Thai food.

Oh, King & I… One of my favorite places for those staple Thai dishes that you always crave. Mine is Tom Kha soup(or as I like to call it, the coconut stuff with chicken) and basil chicken. Both of which are pretty solid here. It had been a a while(read: years) since I last came here and they’ve done absolutely nothing with the interior. This isn’t exactly a place where I’d expect much, but even the hand written note below the thermostat reminding them not to set it below 70 degrees was the same. Anyway, it’s cheap, tasty, and the service is solid.

In need of a quick bite before our show at the Alliance, David K and I were both craving Thai. Tamarind Seed was all booked up, so off to King & I we go. Tucked back in to Ansley Mall, it’s a little rough around the edges but all in all a simple, clean spot. The prices are super cheap which was a wonderful surprise given their location. All of the go-to Thai dishes are on the menu and service was hella quick: we were in and out in under an hour. We ordered the big serving of tom kha to split and it was served in a giant metal O-shaped bowl with a flame in the middle. Totally crazy looking, and difficult to serve out of: lots of soup was leftover, in part because there was no good way to get it out of there. The soup itself was alright: a little gritty but the taste was nice. My pad thai was okay: I think if I came back I’d try out the massaman curry just to see how it compares to my beloved Top Spice. I certainly wouldn’t balk at returning to King & I: the price is definitely right!

Wanted a pre-theater casual Thai dinner — and found it here. As other reviewers have noted, the vibe is casual, the neighborhood a bit strange, the décor is a throwback but the employees are very friendly, welcoming and helpful. The service was spot-on and the food was delicious. We had our usual order of Pad Thai and Massaman Chicken to test the wheels/menu. Both very delicious. We’ll be back.

I’ve been able to find a number of really good Thai restaurants lately. This is one of them, very low key place, typical Thai décor. Thai employees very friendly. Service was great! Strange location, interesting people. Food was great Thai Chicken Fried Rice was great! They had a dish on the menu that I’ve not seen in any Thai restaurant in the USA it happens to be my favorite Thai dish and I had to give it a try. Chicken/Onion spicy with a maggie based broth it was fantastic. My new favoirte Thai place for the next few months.
