I’ve said this many times to many different people, this is one of my favorite places to pass time, even if just to browse. Pleasant environment and people. Wide selection of material and a willingness to find and order material they may not have.

This is a great book store with books that are written by great African American authors. The staff is helpful and knowledgeable about the books and authors. It is located right beside the food court just in case you want to eat and read. I will be back to get more great books soon

Glad to see this type of story exist large selection but I must say the ladies inside set around gossiping we’re extremely rude and their books are very overpriced you can order these books online for a lot cheaper

Excellent place to purchase literature reflecting cultural diversity. Great customer service from the owner’s sister. I found a book for my child that was unavailable at all of the major book stores. This is a true gem for Southwest Atlanta. pattyleeg

I understand that small businesses can’t compete with Amazon but I have found many out of print books(read: shit they don’t want us to know) and have met authors that sign their works there. Not to mention in store discounts at events — events that generally bring the community together in powerful and informative ways. Many YouTube lectures I enjoy are hosted by these types of stores in places 100s of miles from me — what platform would these brothers and sisters have if not for these bookstores fighting the good fight? Amazon sure won’t be hosting any of these conscious lectures because all they want are dollars with no ROI to the community. I bought a wonderful book while at Medu«Images & Quotations of Great African Americans» and the author(who is going blind) signed the book and discounted it $ 20. The book is huge and heavy, thank God I didn’t have to pay shipping. It is one of my most prized possessions(amongst hundreds of other books) and is constantly being interacted with as it sits on a pedestal on my dining room table, opened and ready to explore.

I absolutely love this bookstore. Medu sells books you can’t even find online! The staff is nice and there are always interesting people in the bookstore. I have yet to go to an event there, but I think I will soon. If you like hard to find books about conspiracy theories, black history(the real history), and self-help books, this is the bookstore for you.

There are only 50-odd black owned bookstores left in America and Medu is one of them. They’ve been operating out of Greenbriar Mall for the past 23 years and they’re hands down my favorite«Mom and Pop» bookstore in the Atlanta area. I’ve been a customer for years so it’s past time for a review. I went there about a month ago for a celebration of two of my favorite things: centenarians and cookbooks. Mother Hughes(an Atlanta icon) was doing a signing of her cookbook and I simply couldn’t miss it. She’s lived to see 101 years and I’m convinced that her collection of recipes contains the dietary secrets of longevity. In my experience, the more obscure the cookbook the better the recipe gems inside so I had to have a copy. Anyway, Medu seems to specialize in carrying books like hers – titles you can’t find anywhere else online or in brick and mortar bookstores. The store owner, Nia, and her sister are extremely knowledgeable about their inventory too. They have books for children and adults on a variety of subjects including: African-American History and Culture Politics and Sociology Biographies and Non-Fiction Spiritual and Holistic Healing Nutrition & Cookbooks(Soul/Vegan/Vegetarian) Natural Hair Care Fiction and Poetry Aside from the books they have an excellent selection of calendars and greeting cards. Literally the best card I’ve ever received in life came from the shelves of Medu Bookstore. I opened the card, read it and Oprah ugly cried for like 10 minutes. I’ve already purchased their unique holiday cards in bulk so I can give them to my sisters and friends. I love buying from Amazon and Barnes & Noble as much as the next book lover. That said, I make a concerted effort to support the passion for literature and special interest titles that can only be found at an independent book seller like Medu Bookstore.

Cute little bookstore, and its one of the highlights of Greenbriar Mall! They’ve got a wide variety of books, videos, and cute afrocentric knicknacks. If you’re looking into exploration of the culture of africans in america, this is definitely a gem in southwest Atlanta!

I would love to continue to support this store but it just doesn’t make financial sense for me. I paid $ 21 for a hardcover book that I could have gotten for $ 6 on amazon. That’s not their fault but if I can save 15 bucks for the same product …, well, one plus one equals two if you know what I mean. I also went for a semi celeb that was signing a children’s book that she wrote. That was definitely something nice for the family and you can’t get that on amazon. I’ll go again but probably just for certain events.

Medu Bookstore in Greenbriar Malls stocked with predominately African American literature. They have a decent selection of authors for adults, teens and children. I really appreciate stores like this one because its hard to find a lot of these books at Barnes & Nobel and Borders. Every so often Medu Bookstore hosts events and brings in authors to promote new books. Additionally students, nook clubs and libraries are offered a discount.
