I used to eat here a lot with my boyfriend; the place was nice, very quiet and low-key. The owner/chef was very very sweet, and very helpful. Food was really tasty! I heard they closed recently, which is sad because they had really good food and it was so close to the climbing gym.

We didn’t east here because when we went inside all the lights were off and a man that I assume was the owner was feeding pigeons on the floor in the dining room.

Veggies are delicious, would go back for them. The meat the two times I’ve eaten a meat entrée was tough. Don’t understand that since it’s supposedly cooked slowly for hours.

I’ve been driving past this restaurant for a while now. Every time I pass, I think to myself that I want to stop in and try the food. It is close to home, and that’s a plus. Finally stopped in, and the restaurant is really homey. It gives you a glimpse into a home kitchen complete with the welcoming family. We tried the vegetable platter and the tilapia along with a meat patty appetizer. This was only our second taste of Ethiopian food, and I was holding my breath hoping that the food was good. Although it took a while for our food to get to the table, it was well worth the wait. The food was more flavorful than the food we had at the other restaurant we had gone to. It was awesome! I now want to learn how to cook Ethiopian food! After dinner, the owner came over to our table, and he was so outgoing and personable. Loved the ambiance, the family, and most of all the FOOD!!! Will definitely be going back again and again.

Messob Ethiopian Atlanta restaurant I like all things extra spicy hot. Needless to say I’m not a big fan of Ethiopian food because of the blandness; however, the owner/chef is very willing to accommodate. This is only the second time I have eaten at an Ethiopian restaurant in my entire life. We ordered the Messob special and it should have served 4 – 5 people, but it took only two of us to finish the main course. We ate everything except the extra basket of injera. Well, I ate mainly the jalapeño, and my husband everything else. I can’t give the experience a high rating, because it is just not my favorite type of food. I would go back because of the convenience of the location, and my husband enjoyed it very much. I’m bringing my chili peppers next time. Go Zin Yourself

I have come to Messob a few times, and each time a different review can be written. Among the highs is the injera bread, it is amazing, spongy, fresh, unique! Another high mark goes to the vegetable platter on injera bread. It is a great journey through Ethiopian vegetarian foods, the food is spiced perfectly, and the owner is generous with additional bread to grab all the veggies. It easily serves 2 people, and feels like a buffet has been brought to your table. Unfortunately the lows include the owner himself, who at times is gregarious and welcoming, and at other times not as accommodating. I had an issue with a Groupon, and even as a regular customer, he refused to make it right.(Groupon did) The lunch buffet also suffers from inconsistency, which may have to do with some days it being busy, and other days with empty tables. In this economy, the restaurant business isn’t easy, and this one could go either way. The inconsistency of the food, and the owners attitude, reflect the pressure of trying to balance costs, quality, and service. I am always surprised that they do not offer any type of coffee. The interior is uninspiring, so don’t expect bonus points on a date there. The location works for me, so you may see me there again, asking for more bread!

I have eaten the lunch buffet here several times in the last month. For the price, It is a very good deal. The owner, Mr. Samson Abate, is quite proud of his food — he makes everything fresh — and he will explain the food to first-timers. I love the flavors of everything I’ve tried, especially the cabbage(those of you who have read my other reviews may notice a pattern here). The injera(bread) is also good. If you get a chance(when things are a bit slow) engage Mr. Abate in conversation — he’s quite an interesting character. If you’ve been leery of trying Ethiopian cuisine, this is a good way to try it out. If you like Indian, I bet you’ll like this.

The hummus was fantastic! This is a must-get if you go there! The veggie combination plate was the perfect size for one. I believe the owner is also the chef. He takes a lot of pride in his food and beamed when we said the food was fantastic. I highly recommend this place for great Ethiopian food.

I used a gift certificate. They charged the 18% gratuity per the certificate and assured me that they did NOT; therefore I tipped additional gratuity(approx 25%.) When I realized the mistake, the owner was unwilling to refund back the additional tip. POORSERVICE.

If you like to try new things without spending tons of money, this is the place for you. Messob is a family owned small restaurant. The décor is very homey and tasteful. It’s def a good place to go with family or on a date! I called ahead and made reservation for a bday party. They decorated our table with happy birthday balloons. The owner was so nice and friendly, he came and checked up on us several times and made sure everything was ok. For appetizer, we had the hummus and sambusa. Both were soooooo delicious(drooling while typing right now…) For dinner we had the messob special and lamb clay pot(5 people to share). The food portion is very generous and there wasn’t 1 thing that didn’t taste awesome. Ok I don’t eat lamb, but I couldn’t stop picking on the lamp dish, that’s how good it is. The coffee is to die for… they roast the coffee beans right there at the bar, and the smell was all over the restaurant. The coffee has a spice that I’ve never tasted before in coffee(nutmeg? ginger?) and I was so happy that I couldn’t stop drinking it. I am so glad I found this hidden gem! I will def go back. The advice I would give is to go there when you have plenty of time to kill, the food takes a while, but trust me, it’s so worth it. And don’t go there if you can’t take spicy food(I heard the table next to us complaining about the food being too spicy for their kid). Come on!!! It’s not even that spicy. Also, they don’t have alcohol, I wonder if they let you BOYB? We ended up spend $ 75(w tip) after our $ 25 restaurant .com certificate for 5 people.

I went for lunch with a friend. I was expecting a traditional buffet where you go and pick out the items you want and return as often as you’d like. At this place you pick out a meat and a couple vegetables. However, the owner let us try whatever we wanted. The meat dishes where not what I usually eat when I go out for Ethiopian. The dishes looked oily sitting there in their pans. And the taste was not all that great. I have no plans to return. There are way too many other good Ethiopian restaurants out there.

When I went today,(1⁄11) the buffet was really good and I chatted with the owner. Not the city’s best Ethiopian restaurant, but perhaps the most casual due to its small size, TV and friendly service. I can’t think of another Ethiopian restaurant in town with more reasonable prices. The food is still delicious. The location is excellent since it is not close to any other Ethiopian restaurants. Messob has a small grocery shelf where you can buy injera and Ethiopian spices.

I would never have heard about this place if a neighbor hadn’t told me about it. It’s in a weird little shopping strip across from the Embry Hills Kroger. I almost drove past it when I was heading out there. When we walked in, the place was empty. That always makes me a little nervous when I go to restaurants. In this case, though, the nervousness was unwarranted. The physical restaurant is in a small space, and there are still some remnants from the Italian restaurant that was there before(including a big billboard in the back advertising pasta). I had the veggie combo — it was fantastic. The only thing I wasn’t really keen on was the pile of «salad» in the center of my plate(the main courses were on the border). I felt like the lettuce was an unnecessary touch. They gave us plenty of Inerja — the spongy bread that you eat Ethiopian food with. We both left very full. This is a great find — especially since there aren’t any other Ethiopian restaurants that I know of that are

First off, Messob is not a brand new restaurant. It used to be somewhere on Clairmont. We stopped in with child and got the veggie platter(for one), and the chicken nibs(tibs? nibs? can’t remember exactly). The former is a massive piece of injera with at least 8 or so different veggie toppings. The latter is a medium-heat dish with ample chunks of whitemeat chicken, onions, tomato, and some spinach and cabbage on the side. And of course they give you plenty of injera. Both plates were huge and this, along with a samosa-type appetizer(these weren’t very big) was enough for 3 or 4 people. Plusses: We live close-by, the staff and manager were very friendly. We were intrigued, had read a good review or two, and would like to see this type of place do well. As stated, the portions were huge, very tasty. We had leftovers for dinner the next night. Minuses: it’s not really that nice inside, but it’s ‘okay’. Ethiopian food tends to be rather messy. I’m fine with the el-cheapo disposable paper napkins, but at least give us a stack of them or a napkin dispenser. The napkins were doled out rather sparingly. I can go to and get certificates for similar Ethiopian places and pay quite a bit less. There are no deals to be had here, and I’m not sure that this restaurant, in this cursed location, at these prices will do very well. Will I go back? I can definitely see us getting some occasional take-out. One dish($ 10-$ 13 range) will feed 2 or 3 very well. I wouldn’t drive across town, but if you live nearby, it’s definitely one of the better restaurants in the area. Oh, I almost forgot. They do have a 5.99 lunch buffet. My pesky day job has prevented me from checking it out, but if you are able, that looks like a steal.

I’ve been frequenting this new restaurant for the last month or so and it’s absolutely fantastic. Being my first experience eating Ethiopian food, I was actually pleasantly surprised how willing the owners were to explain the dishes and help me make informed decisions on what I likely would or wouldn’t find palatable. Everything I’ve eaten here so far has been delicious and incredibly flavorful. One thing to note, if you’re coming for the first time, don’t be in a hurry. It takes a little while to get the food out but I personally think it’s well worth it. I’m always thrilled to have a great new restaurant in my neighborhood and Messob Taste of Ethiopia is definitely one of them.
