One of those great family run places. Super fun and local. Great tamales. Authentic Mexican. One of the best hole in the wall places.

Fantastic authentic little Mexican restaurant. The salsa is SOGOOD I wanted to take some home. ;P I didn’t have any issues with service like others had, and it was busy when we were there(a Thursday night). My boyfriend loved his torta and I loved the veggie tacos. They have a decent selection of beer and tequilas also!

Stopped here after touring the Oakland Cemetery because we wanted to try someplace we’ve never been to. They were busy, the menu had plenty of choices but we weren’t impressed with the taste of food. Sort of bland. Won’t return because we’ve had better authentic Mexican elsewhere.

Awesome legitimate Mexican food. Absolutely delicious! Keep in mind small parking lot and small restaurant, but service is fast!

My God this place is worthy of 100 stars. Noisy… but who cares. The food is authentic and bursting with fresh flavour. I had the pozole on Saturday … Gorgeous seasoning … Pork cooked soft and tender and the white corn done just right. The ceviche … Mmmmmmmm, fresco … lemon… Spanish onion … avocado … healthy … so good. My husband had the fajitas … Lean and tasty. Excellent place. Real food with real SABOR! It just goes to prove — you can eat healthy — with SABOR and not heavy on calories if you order right.

Great food? Yes. Great service and people? ABSOLUTELYNOT. I went here with a friend after viewing the 4.0 Unilocal reviews. We were excited. We got there, noticed the local vibe and«hole in the wall» character this place had to offer and were immediately excited… then we ordered. My lady confidant ordered what they call a «skinny margarita». Sure — it’s skinny if you want a shot of tequila with a splash of margarita mix coupled with a goblet of water! After our initial taste(s) of the so called«skinny margarita» both of us were highly displeased. Now, I’ve worked in the restaurant service industry for 5+ years and understand what it means to send something back. I NEVERDOTHATUNLESSNECESSARY. Believe me, it was necessary. I described our situation to the waiter, he then — and I shit you not — picked up her drink, drank from it, and said he didn’t understand the problem. Nevertheless, he agreed to give her a regular margarita. So, the regular margarita comes. It’s a smaller size than the normal margs being sold — whatever, just get her a drink that’s palpable at this point. But here’s the kicker… The manager and hostess comes by with the former«skinny margarita» and exclaims as she walks by, «I’m going to drink your drink to not let YOUR(emphasized passive aggressively) liquor go to waste». She continues on with her night. Needless to say we are absolutely fucking pissed at this point. She could have said any number of customer friendly comments, but chose to say what she said. We finish our meal. My girl, afraid of any repercussions, decides to wait outside while I pay and have a word with the staff. I tell them I’m going to pay for the entire thing — skinny margarita included — and she says, «no I’m not charging you but not letting this go to waste». I proceed to argue explaining my frustration with the management of the situation and overall lack of friendly customer service. She never apologized. Sticks by her claim. Tells me to leave. I leave without tipping. Moral of the story — you get what you pay for. And don’t pay for a margarita that’s made of water and sold for $ 10.00. Fuck this place.

Had a burrito, a few tacos and a ceviche. Very pleased with our food. Beef tongue taco was especially delicious. Service was reasonably quick with the restaurant nearly full and lots of take out going on. Small staff worked hard to keep everyone happy. Would definitely go back

I love this place. I moved to Atlanta about a year ago and asked around for suggestions for some delicious, cheap, homemade Mexican food and Mi Barrio was absolutely the answer. Lisa is one of the friendliest people you will ever meet and she works hard to keep the tacos coming and the strong and delicious margaritas flowing. She’ll definitely take care of you! This is a family run business and definitely feels like it. It really makes me feel like I’m at home and the food is simple and great. Corn tortilla tacos with meat, onion, and cilantro. I almost always get the lenguas and all of the tamales are delicious. I often stop by on a summer afternoon to grab a huge cup of horchata to cool down — it’s the best horchata in town. Check out Mi Barrio with some friends and enjoy some delicious food and drinks.

Awesome location as we walked from the Oakland Cemetery that day. I like the local look and feel of the place. You could tell they had regulars as well. I was excited about the food, but left a little disappointed. I was full, but I definitely have been to better places. Pitchers were decent priced and we still had fun.

Great food and even better customer service! It’s refreshing to go to a Mexican restaurant where I didn’t feel that I needed to dress like I was walking down a red carpet. I definitely recommend if you’re just wanting some good authentic Mexican food.(Their adorable toddler even greeted us with a hand shake when we got there)

I was treated terribly at this place I pulled into their parking lot, went inside to check and see if my party had arrived. They were not there so I went back out to my car to wait and was chased down by a waitress screaming at me that I can’t park in their parking lot and not eat in the restaurant. I explained to her that I was waiting for my party and that I would come back in once they had arrived. She said«How do I know you’re not lying? How do I know you’re really going to come here to eat? «Then she said«I’m going to get your car towed and then you’re going to be mad». At this point my friend pulled up and we left for a friendlier restaurant. If you can’t welcome me like a guest I don’t want to do business with you. To be fair I have no idea how the food is. Didn’t make it that far. Extremely rude, unprofessional off putting staff.

They are not closed. They temporarily close between Thanksgiving and New years every year to visit Mexico, but they are back and open, I went last night and it was still great. One of my favorite places to eat in Atlanta. Much more like eating in someones home than your typical restaurant but thats why its great. Lisa is the nicest restaurateur ever, and the rest of the staffing is family and friends and you can tell, in a good way. I recommend the tacos de lengua which I include every time, but everything is great. Might not be around forever though as gentrification is changing the neighborhood so check them out soon!

I like this place but probably more of a 3 and ½ stars. Solid food and friendly staff. Don’t be turned away by the bars on the windows. You walk in and it is very cute and clean. Tables with checkered clothes. Simple and hand made food. Good salsa and tortillas. They have a good beer selection from Mexico. The tacos and enchiladas were tasty. I decided to try the tongue taco… it was different than I expected but everything else was good. Parking lot is smaller.

Really great people making really great food. Real simple. You’ll see people from all walks of life and they love it here. Part of the community, part of the neighborhood. If you don’t like kindhearted hardworking people and their kids, or humanity in general, this may not be the spot for you. To everyone else, dig in! (pork tacos with the salsa it comes with is amazing)

Love Mi Barrio! When I lived in Cabbagetown, my gf and I frequented this spot regularly after moving from the bay area in Cali. We know great Mexican food after living out west and I will tell you Mi Barrio is it. Great Carne Asada burritos and Tacos. Queso is on point. Make sure you try the pickled Cactus. So good. I miss you Mi Barrio.

Let me preface: I’m from the Chicago area, and the two things almost impossible to find down here are Americanized Chinese, and Americanized Mexican. See how I wrote«Americanized»? That’s because I know what I loved up north is about as authentic as On The Border. But I still crave it. On every corner in the Chicago area is a phenomenal Mexican(Americanized)place. Meats are tender, sauces full of flavor, salsas spicy– and the burritos– ohhhhh the burritos. I’m not sure there’s anything better at 2AM. Well, at least in the food department. Mi Barrio was such a disappointment. We had steak tacos– the steak had NO flavor, was super tough, and just lacked any kind of punch. Taco Bell would have been better. The beans had zero flavor. Even the cheese on the tacos was lackluster. People who think this place is good puzzle me.

Authentic Mexican food and vibe to go with it! Best gorditas, tacos, salsa, queso, rice, beans, and people/service. This is an actual authentic Mexican restaurant, and the only authentic Mexican restaurant you will find on that strip. The family that runs this place is really nice and welcoming. Definitely a must try for all.

I went to Mi Barrio to order take-out for me and my girlfriend. When I arrived, it was pretty quiet for a Saturday night. It is definitely a dive, pretty run down but cozy and well decorated nonetheless. The parking lot is all beat so beware of the holes when you pull in. A waitress/hostess asked me for a table but I said I was doing take-out. She was very friendly, but busy. I gave her my take-out ordered and waited about 15 minutes outside, no biggie. I ordered: Steak and Chicken Burrito, and Nachos Supreme(cheese and beans on the side in a cup… so the chips don’t get soggy on the way home) and a side of Jalapeños. All for about 21 $ When we opened up the containers at home, there was no side of Jalapeños, even though I was charged for it. Oh well, so we started with the burrito– we said half chicken, half steak. We were not aware that they literally do one side chicken, one side steak. It was pretty funny, usually places will mix the chicken and steak together throughout the burrito, but they do it differently here. The steak was like gyro meat, thinly sliced, but tasted like a bunch of salt and pepper. The burrito was okay, not much taste to it. We added the house salsa(great taste, a bit spicy), and a bit of the queso from the nachos and the burrito tasted better. wish we had those jalapeños we ordered… The rice and beans were okay, nothing spectacular. The nacho supreme was just okay. The queso was pretty good, but the toppings were lacking. way more chips than toppings, and the chicken was a bit overcooked, stringy, and extremely salty. As a nachos supreme you would think it would come with sour cream and guac, but nope. Or, they just forgot to give us it? All in all, the food was extremely salty. It was probably the salsa, queso and meat. Or a combination of all of them. My girlfriend and I were up all night drinking water. I know when food is salty and this was one of the top salty meals of my life. I will not return. We should have went to Tin lizzys for take out, at least their ingredients have taste to it and not as salty.

Some of the Best Mexican food you’ll find in town. Authentic taste. Chips and salsa come with your meal and they are the best. The family who owns Mi Barrio is like family to us. For a whole in the wall, the food was decent. The waitress was nice but not very attentive. My friends and I sat for about a half an hour waiting to place our food orders after we received our Margaritas. I ordered the chicken nachos. It was ok but nothing to write home about. The Margaritas was wonderful. I may go again…

This is a place you have to look for. Although it’s on the main rd. you would miss it if not looking for a place to eat. This family owned business that’s friendly and offers great service, along with all your most common dishes makes this place perfect.

Now this place is rated waaaaaay too high. Like everyone else I heard this place had amazingly delicious Mexican and very authentic. It’s a mom and pop hole in the wall, which is fine. But because of this I also expected the food to be like home(cali) if not better. My food as well as my dates food was waaaay mediocre. Not much flavor at all. Their house made hot sauce was a treat and made my food a little more tasty. My guacamole I ordered had to be fixed. I needed fresh limes salt and pepper to enjoy it. If my Mexican food at the house is better than a restaurants then there is something wrong. Not to mention our food came out on styrofoam plates. You know the kind you get at Walmart, 1,000 plates for $ 1.99. Yep those ones. Margaritas were pretty good. Service was lacking. Would I go again? If it were my last option. Would I tell a friend? Not to bother, absolutely!

I can’t think of any other restaurant I’d ever give a one star rating to other than Mi Barrio. Most restaurants have some redeeming qualities. Mi Barrio did not. Our experience was so bad that it is still a running joke amongst our friends. A few years ago, we went to Mi Barrio because someone told us it was delicious and authentic. The place is small and cramped(that would be fine if the food was decent). The waiter immediately treated the four of us as if we were inconveniencing him and we had just sat down at a table. We wanted to order cheese dip and margaritas, but after he brought chips, he ignored us for a long period of time. We finally got to order, it took forever for our food to come out even though the place was near empty and when it did… our piping hot food came out on Styrofoam plates. The plates were the super thin, super cheap kind and the hot food burnt holes in the bottom of most of the plates. I don’t expect fancy dinnerware, but at least put the food on a plate that it isn’t going to burn through. The bill left us shell-shocked for the poor quality of food and service we received. There are so many other tasty options in and around Atlanta.

Love it. Super authentic. Restaurant has a true Mexican vibe to it. The place is a little«trailer» so it does get pretty busy in there when the few, but all, tables get filled. The margaritas are very tasty and pretty potent and the beer helps wash down the super flavorful salsa. They serve cow tongue which is nice to see on a menu and would love to see it served many other places as well. I love the enchiladas there and the chili relleno is always delicious as well. This place is no frills, good food, kind of place. Try it!

Mi Barrio has been around a lot longer than the young hipster crowd that had overflowed into it on a recent Friday night. I wonder what this group thought of the«Muy tipico» Mexican cooking that is very fresh and filling, but no different than many similar places out on Buford Highway. Hopefully they loved it, because, while in the great scheme of Mex(no Tex) cooking, it’s just fine, in the Grant Park neighborhood, it is kind of unique. Best bets — melon agua fresca. Chimichanga. Tacos. Expect comfort food, freshly cooked ingredients, and well prepared standbys, delivered when the cook gets them done(which might take a while if there is a crowd). You will be full when done.

Food ordered: chimichanga with chicken/beef Steak gordita Guacamole The place was very dark when we arrived but might have been due to it being earth day. They provide free chips and salsa and I’m a sucker for guac. Unfortunately the guac had no flavor. The gordita shell was delicious and fresh. With carne asada and masa, lettuce and tomato. But also lack a bit of flavor. My husband was disappointed in his chimichanga. The chicken was dry and the ground beef wasn’t burnt but tasted like it had been cooked on something that was. The ice tea which was ½/1/2 was more like half tea half water. Very sweet! While the prices where very fair and the place felt authentic. The food did not. It just lacked any spice, salt or flavor. But tons of sugar.

The only reason why I’m not giving this place 5 stars is because their service sucks… but I also feel like that’s kind of the charm of the whole place. I love the real authentic Mexican food you can get but if you get offended by a toddler serving your drink or a baby crying in the background this isn’t your kinda place. I love the homey feel to this place and it literally makes you feel like you’re at your abuelas house. Try the tamales, and the margaritas will getcha! i don’t go to any other Mexican restaurant because nothing else compares. I love you mi barrio.

This place is our favorite places to go to lunch when we are both off. The service is great — we love the lady who takes the orders and payments. We like dinning in the homey feel of the place. Nice and cozy and always great enchiladas. The only issue is once I saw the older gentleman pour the used salsa back into the dispenser. So to tell the truth I don’t eat the salsa– whoa! Great place except the salsa issue.
