The only place I’m paying a cover charge to come in. I love MJQ! I love that I walk down a slope to enter into the lair of this club. The different graffiti art work on the wall is fun. Really strong drinks are a plus. Music is always on 10. The people are a ton of fun!

Heard this was one of the oldest nightclubs in Atlanta and the fact that it’s underground is so cool. I was unaware that it’s cash only for everything(parking is $ 10, cover was $ 10 and drinks). There is an ATM at the bar next door in case you forget but it’s not an allpoint. The music was different in the various rooms, we enjoyed all of them especially the disco room. You almost feel like you’re in a different country at a dance club. The age was mixed, I would say anyone could really party here.

Love this place! Old school hip hop on Friday. Cheap beer, free to smoke, places to sit and good crowd. The ladies bathroom is a murder scene, nasty. So wait the beer intake ladies. Smaller room plays 70s solid gold music.

I had the best time at this spot! It reminds me of some of the underground spots in Chicago. The music was good, the vibe was nice and they spit of two rooms was the best. If I wanted to hear some hip hop or reggae, I went to the bigger side of the joint, if I wanted to hear some deep house, I went right across to the other room. Dope spot, and I will definitely go again. U MUST to have your dancing shoes on for this spot.

The first time I came to MJQ was Spring of 2004 I believe. I was in town for spring break from Orlando. We asked a few folks around when to go and MJQ was the recommendation. Look for what looks like a garage door they said. At the time i had never been to an establishment like this. I was intrigued and hooked. I frequented this place when I lived here from 2007 – 2013 and came when I visited ATL. Now I’m back in the A and when looking for a place to celebrate my return MJQ was the obvious choice. Good music, strong & affordable drinks, cool crowd, non-pretentious. As many folks have probably said, this place is cash only so plan ahead. They do have an ATM which comes in handy when you don’t plan on ending up at MJQ but somehow do and need some dinero. I love the small side room that plays a lot of house music. I usually spend my time hopping between this room and the main room. I fun time is always to be had here. Just be prepared to leave sweaty(from dancing) and reaking of smoke.

Heaven for those who enjoy good olé 90s hip hop! If you get there early you can get your own spot to chill. Beware of where you sit because some of the sitting area is very sticky. It’s all cement. We got there right at 11 and we lined up outside and waited but paid no cover. Our fiends came in around 11:20 and paid $ 10 cover. You can use their parking lot and pay $ 20 or find a other parking spot for a lower price around the area. It was cold and wet inside(floor) during our visit. Bc it’s underground and it has rained earlier there were quite a few puddles. No major deal but do wear long sleeves or sweater ladies because it’s chilly. Very relaxed atmosphere. Enjoyed the music and drinks. Cash only!!! Smoking is allowed.

I enjoy myself every time I come here. Every Second Friday of the month I try to come. I love the music and the people. As much as I love sporting my heels I am not obligated to do that when I come here and I like that feeling. The drinks are usually strong which is great for their prices. I discovered the second room where they played house music just the last visit and that was awesome. Before you leave, make sure you take a candid photo next to the backdrop of the graffiti. As much as I hate going home smelling like cigarettes, it does not bother me after I have sweated out all of my glitches of the week on the dance floor. The music is everything!!! I’ll be back!

Went here with a gf weeks back and had an enjoyable time. Make sure to bring cash since this place was a cash only venue, even the coat check was cash only ~ $ 3. :( This place was separated into two areas with its relative DJ and bar. One side had the hip hop and rap while the other had the more pop and 90’s vibe. The scene here was mixed with all types of crowds and ages. The cover is $ 5 btw. Beers start at $ 3. Parking is free if you can find a spot.

Went on Indie/House music night. Couldn’t see past the marijuana smoke. Bathroom’s super sketchy — no door to enter, stall doors with no locks, no lights, no mirror. But surprisingly had a decent time.

Music. Music…MUSIC! 4 Stars alone for the vibe here, so many dope people dancing and vibing out to old school 90s and popular tunes of today. Heard hip hop, trip-hop, some dub-step type rave shuffles in between, but all in all DOPE selection. The drinks are good too! $ 5 for gin and sprite w/pineapples, cash only so be prepared to have at least $ 20 – 50 on top of the $ 10 entrance fee. This place is hidden from the street, so I had to ask a dude what it was initially when I first walked up. This was totally what I was looking for when I moved to Atlanta. Place is a no-judgment zone and is actually pretty spacious and not as smoky as I thought it would be. The lil underground tunnel exit out towards the street makes for a great photo backdrop with your ppls after your night ends, and as an artist myself I appreciate the urban art on the walls throughout the joint. Def coming back here in a few weeks! 5STARS**

You’ve read the reviews. You’ve heard the legends. Now come experience the awful spectacle for yourself. MJQCONCOURSE For a long time I was an El Bar acolyte but the last time I went it was 10,000 motherfuckers snaked around the lot trying to get into the studio apartment sized club, so ur boy had to diversify his options. Luckily, Ponce provides. MJQCONCOURSE On this glorious stretch of Atlanta’s most iconic avenue, you have El Bar(RIP), Clermont Lounge and MJQ to suit your club needs. MJQ, however, is the most dedicated to the task; it’s big, has multiple rooms and even leads into another fucking club, Drunken Unicorn, if you just can’t get enough. MJQ lies at the heart of an underground compound where some of the most nefarious shit in Atlanta has gone down. You already know it’s like entering into a Minotaur’s lair. You already know you might find some of the baddest jawns in the city here if you time your visit right. You already know it’s a strictly cash only operation for cover, drinks and extracurricular goods/services. What else is there to know? Don’t expect a parking spot, leave the credit card at home, wear clothes you wouldn’t mind being set on fire by a cigarette and have a good time!

Another great night at MJQ, it was bumping. The music is always great here, lines move fast and drinks are cheap. Cash only spot and super congested inside at times but it’s almost like a bar/club lol. It’s a mixed crowd, club is underground so it get humid in there. Of course the furniture and everything in there is old, it’s been around for years.

The music. Come for the music. Come to dance. Come to have a good time. I met a Unilocal Crew up here on a Friday Night. Matter of fact, we were welcoming our new CM Johnny. He likes to dance so I thought I’d come check him out. Plus it had been so long since I had been to MJQ’s I wanted to see the place again. Friday’s are old school hiphop night. Great music. This was around the time of Michael Jackson’s birthday so there was good bit of his music tossed in as well. We were in the middle of the dance floor 2 stepping, popping, locking, bumping and grinding. There is another side of this place that I remember back in the day played house/reggae music. I ventured over here this night and the dj was spinning some Earth Wind and Fire. WOW! I can dig it. Okay. I hear ya! Good music for the soul. People were doing their thing throughout. Some were people watching, others were posted along the walls. Some people were dancing, others had their hands up to the music. Some people were at the bar drinking, some people were on the floor, drinking. Parking is tight in the lot and they will tow you in the Chipotle lot. There were parking attendees across the street where you can pay to park, but it is best to park on the street amongst the residences. The only downside to this place in my opinion is that it is only 1 way in and 1 way out. It is underground which is kind of cool, but not cool enough. I need another exit, emergency type… for a quick getaway. Just my nature and I think most men would agree. Maybe there is one and I just don’t know about it. If so, it is not easily recognizable. The cave entrance is wide enough for a stampede of people to get out if necessary but still… maybe I should just not think like that but it is one of the first thoughts to come to mind when I think of MJQ.

I wish I knew MJQ existed before graduating from college. I wouldn’t have wasted so much time and money at dance clubs that I didn’t even have a good time at. As much as I love getting pretty and dressed up, most of my days involve looking like a normal person. And anywhere I can go and have a good time while dressed casual is my idea of a good night. $ 10 cash only cover charge. All drinks inside are also cash only. There’s an ATM available for your drunken convenience. While MJQ’s not for the faint of heart, I had a crazy good time. There were two rooms, although I tended to like the main room better than the back room. The MC in the main room was awesome as we danced and sang to old school jams. And I was surprised by the general lack of judgement all around. I felt loved by the crush of people around me. And what’s with all this hate about OTP’ers raiding MJQ? I used to live ITP, and recently settled into the OTP lifestyle. No one seemed to care when I was there where I lived. So quit it with the hate, we’re all on the same team. I’ve heard crazy things about Wednesday nights, which is usually my Welfare Wednesday night at Moondogs… if I’m going out. But maybe I’ll change up the scene a little and end my night here for some legit«going out.»

Girl… take off that hoochie mama outfit. Get rid of those stilettos. Here’s to a «walking like you have stick up our booty, feet bleeding, dress riding up» free night! Feel like wearing sneakers? Go ahead. Want to wear a tank and jeans? They won’t stop you. Wear whatever your heart desires! Normally, I try to avoid going to places that charge cover(yes, I’m that cheap), but you know what? Shut up and take my money! I will gladly pay $ 10.00 to get down on this dance floor. I moved to Atlanta a little less than a year ago from San Francisco. I’ve grown accustomed to hanging out at casual bars with a dance floor that plays hip hop, r&b. Here in Atlanta, I’ve had trouble finding places like that. Opera, Compound, Havana Club, etc… those places are fun, but not always. Sometimes, I want to dance to something other than edm and trance. Finding this place was a little confusing. It’s right across from Murder Kroger in the back by the small parking lot. Park at designated lots. DON’T PARKATKROGER’S. They will boot your car. I wasn’t sure if I was walking up to the right spot because there’s no big sign that says MJQ, but you can tell by the crowd. It almost looks like a shack at the entrance. Plus there’s a food cart parked right there.(smart). This is a 21+, cash ONLY joint. They do have ATMS, so if you happen to run out of cash, you’re covered. The do allow smoking, which is unfortunate. The drinks are alright, not that strong, but a little better than watered down. It doesn’t really get that crowded until midnight. I was there at 11:30, and the dance floor was basically empty. I appreciate how this place actually uses their AC. I was actually really cold before it got crowded. I felt the AC on blast, which is a good thing. So by the end of the night, around 3, it was hot, but not like a sauna. It also helps since they do allow smoking, which I hope they will change. They should ban smoking on the dance floor at least. The music was won me over. Old school hip hop and r&b. Very nostalgic. It’s awesome when you hear a song for the first time in yeeeears and everyone is just singing along. The DJ was sick. Mixed the songs very well. The MC was very entertaining as well. Now the crowd is all over the place. Pretty diverse in ethnicity, age and style. There were also a few bboys who laid it down on the floor! Everyone is pretty friendly and just want to have fun, but you do see some people who are a little drunk or maybe just horny and want to get all nasty and grinding up on the dance floor. And no matter where you go, you’ll meet the creepy men who are staring at you and trying to make a move on you. I don’t hold it against the venue though. I just want to warn you ladies… if you can’t handle crowds and guys trying to dance with you, then stay off the floor. There were quite a few guys being a little inappropriate, but just walk away or politely say something to them. Obviously, they should know better, but at the end of the day, they’ll do what they want to do. I ended up coming back here on a Wednesday. Ladies free and guys are $ 5.00. If you are bored on a Wednesday night and want somewhere to go, this is the place. It felt like a normal night out on a weekend. There were so many people and everyone just dancing and having fun. It’s also not as crowded on Wednesdays than on the weekends. There’s still a really good crowd though. I was mainly hanging out with my group of friends and they were definitely great company. That helped make this place even more fun! Here’s to you, MJQ, for giving me hope in Atlanta’s nightlife scene. I’ll see you soon.

I used to be hardcore Friday night MJQ regular about five years ago and this is keeping in mind that I’ve been told that it was even better before I had started to venture there. It sucks now. It’s people from outside the perimeter coming to hang with the weirdos, the hip hop heads, local college students and neighbors which waters the place down. They have turned to playing crappy radio music to appease these people… what a waste of atlanta parking spaces on a Friday night. If you are a normal woman with normal shoe abilities, don’t even bother wearing pointy heels in there… you might take a fall trying to walk down the hill and you also might step in puke. Puke happens here a lot because of the cheap drinks and the bartenders just not caring about getting people tanked. Have cash for your cheap drinks. Or be prepared to pay the ATM. The cheap drinks are probably the highlight now. The music has gotten much more radio like. They play rap but they will act like 5 hip hop songs from 1989 are making it a suitable place for hip hop heads… it’s not that place anymore. Sometimes you can catch people coming by if they do a local show on a Friday or Saturday night but then they will charge $ 20 at the door… just so you can be in the same room with like the Roots or Raekwon… not worth it IMO… I stopped going there after the last time because it was just so wack. They are banking off the past and OTPer’s…JUSTWACKNESS.

What’s the rule for Unilocal about reminiscing about a place you went to 3 years ago and the memory is so beautiful that you want to write a review about it now. I was in Atlanta for a work trip back in 2012. I have a friend from HS who has settled there, so I reached out and he brought me to MJQ. I can’t remember if it was Wednesday or Friday, but the music was pure magic. That hip hop though. Yes, it’s smoky and coming from states where indoor smoking has been banned for years it was definitely a bummer, but I was having such a good time that I forgot and stopped caring for my lungs. It was the dancing, the sweating, and you look across the crowd and the diversity was awe-inspiring. Outside in the world, there’s racism and sexism and homophobia and a shit ton of mean people. This was a room filled with kindness and love and energy just brilliant I cant describe it. This was the summer of Niggas in Paris and when one person got on the tiny stage to rap and he was done, he kindly passed the mic to another person who put his heart and soul into the song, too. The crowd is just wild and god, I don’t remember whether I was wearing heels, but you come here to dance your heart out. No one is judging and everyone is supportive of each other. Too bad I’m getting too old for this stuff. I hope MJQ hasn’t changed.

MJQ is literally a hole. But, it’s not even a hole in a wall. It’s a hole in the ground. So if you’re looking for a VIP section, bottle service, and all the other absurd things young folks feel they need now to have a good time, this place is not for you. On the other hand if you wan’t to dance until you sweat, then sweat some more with one of the most diverse crowds I’ve experienced in Atlanta, then this is your place. Just be warned this place is super smoky. So smoky in fact that you will reek when you leave this dungeon and want to run to a shower.

If you are into places where it is normal to sit down and whisper to your friends over cocktails while hotel music plays lightly in the background with dimly lit lights then this is not the place for you! MJQ’s is where you go to party the night away. You go here when you want to have nights that resonate in the most amazing memories of your life. You can come as you are and be whomever you please. You don’t have to ever pretend just to fit in because everyone fits in here. When you first walk in you will walk into a Batman like cave/tunnel and will be thinking to yourself, «What am I getting into?». When you get to the bottom of the«cave» you will see a bar and a dance floor and you will hear music pounding through the speakers. They play all types of music so you don’t have to worry about hearing the tunes that you prefer. About 99% of the people will be dancing the night away so you don’t have to worry about any issues other than your shoes potentially getting stepped on. I almost forgot about the bartenders!!! The drinks always taste awesome. I guess that could be because I’m already somewhat inebriated by the time I get here for the most part but I digress. They are so friendly it’s as if you are talking with your life long friends and they just happen to make drinks. It is what I would call the perfect nightclub. Great music, eclectic crowd, great staff, and better drinks. Do yourself a favor and check out MJQ’s. If you look up fun in the dictionary I am sure MJQ’s will be a synonym.

Welcome to the«no judgment» zone! The location: tucked behind Chipotle restaurant off Ponce de Leon, in a VERY tight parking block. At the door: I arrived with some friends around 11pm. We waited for about 5 minutes and then the bouncer let us in. There was no cover charge for us. The people: You will see tattooed, geeks, tree-huggers, musicians, preppy, jetsetters, ghetto-fabulous, dread heads, locals, old, young, college kids, white, black, asian, hispanic and everything else in between… oh yeah! Lots of couples were there all booed up. My favorite aspect is there are way more guys than girls in the place. It appeared to be about a 10:1 ratio of men to women, respectively. The men are so mannerable here. I heard a very polite«excuse me» at least 4 or 5 times that night from guys trying to pass through the dancefloor or get to the other side of the room. Every guy I danced with asked me «would you like to dance?» I was pleasantly surprised. The music: I heard Sugarhill Gang, Foxxy Brown, Case, Peter Gunz, Lil’ Mo, Fabolous, Aaliyah, Lil’ Kim, P. Diddy, Pastor Troy, Outkast, Michael Jackson and more! I visited on a Friday night which is Old-School Hip-Hop night. The only complaint I have about the music is the D.J. would cut off the song too quickly. Right as the crowd was getting pumped up, he would switch songs and you would hear a loud«awwww» come from everybody. People actually DANCE in this club! I mean REALLYDANCE and it was so much fun to actually go to a club in Atlanta where the dancefloor was packed like sardines with men and women jamming to their favorite songs. The bar and drinks: It is your regular center island bar. It was super-packed by the end of the night. Our shots were $ 5 a piece. The dress code: Casual, casual, casual… I wore an above-the-knee dress with flat leather sandals but my friends wore jeans, sneakers and a blouse. Most of the fellas had on jeans and a polo shirt or nice t-shirt. It is best not to wear heels and be as comfortable as possible because you will leave smelling like an ashtray. The format: I love how MJQ has adequate and FREE seating all around the club. There are these high step lounge booths attached to the outer walls where you can sit and have a drink in between trips to the dancefloor. At MJQ, it is no frills, no fuss. Just be yourself, smile and have fun. SPECIALNOTES:(1) very smokey environment, if smoke bothers you, you will not last 10 minutes here(2) cash only, MJQ does not accept credit or debit cards(3) The bathrooms are horrible! It smelled like someone died in it. The lock latch was broken, so I had to hold my door closed with one hand while I balanced myself over the toilet to pee and hold my purse with my other hand. No mirrors, so if you’re one of those cliqued up «pretty girls» your feelings are gonna be hurt when you go to check your lipgloss.(4) MJQ is like a juke-joint/hole-in-the wall atmosphere, so if you are looking for 5 star service with a skybox VIP seat… go to another club homey.
