Publix Super Markets

The deli is great here, you really get a feel for Atlanta and its culture standing in line speaking with other customers and the employees. The food is always great, if you like down south food; Mac n chz, collard green, black eyed peas, fried chicken, and pork roast… you’ll love the ready to eat selection here!

Stay away from the Deli! I mean it. The people working the deli are clearly incompetent. I’ve gone to the deli at various times and it’s always the same… long line, one person trying to make sandwiches while 3 or 4 people are running around acting like their heads have been chopped off like chickens. HELP OUT for crying out loud!
Then there is the, oh sorry, I’m gonna have to cut that meat for you… this in the middle of the day! Come on people, have some type of system in place to cut those wait times. Have someone cutting and preparing the meat and bread, then someone to stack the sandwich then someone for the final preparation. There are enough people working back there to do this. It’s not that hard!

This is colloquially referred to as the Publix on Piedmont. It’s a smaller version of it’s more toney cousin, Publix on Ponce, but with a much different crowd. There are folks who are struggling, hurried young professionals and Georgia Tech/​GSU students. The aisles are small and the selection is decent, but it is not a Publix in the sense of a great shopping experience. Partly because it is small and partly because the store is setup up with fewer of the employees you’d expect. So there’s no super nice lady that makes food like at the East Lake Publix. There’s no super nice cashiers willing to engage in a long conversation like the Publix on Piedmont, it’s not pristine like the Publix on North Decatur. But what it is is a quick fast place to shop if you are in Midtown. If you are looking for a bigger nicer store, then the one on 9^th and Spring is your place. Although something about the convenience and ease of shopping hear brings me back a lot.

So we pulled in as we had to get some pop and i was looking for snacks to take over to the kids house. They live right in Midtown so this was a convenient location. We also had to go to the chase bank atm and there is one in the same plaza.
My husband was going to go to the bank and have me go to the store but as soon as we pulled in, I didn’t want to walk through the parking lot by myself. Their were homeless people and a couple shady looking people hanging out. But then I did see… count them…1,2,3,4 atlanta police officers standing in the front of the entrance just hanging out and laughing and joking. I felt better?
So we went looking for chips and salsa and some drinks. Found them. However, did not find a deli section like other Kroger stores with olives and fresh cheeses or salad bar. This deli was small and behind the counter with no premade salads or snack type foods. I guess this is a location if you need just the basics and there is probably crime around the area.

So far we’ve had nice cashiers, found the food we were looking for, and able to get in, and out fairly quickly.
Although I do notice the lines tend to be long, I can usually get through the 10 items or less line, so I usually don’t have to wait long or at all.
So I give Publix 4 stars because many of the items are more expensive than other stores and the store seems kind of crowded-​Due to the size of the building.

Through a miscommunication my husband and I ended up at this Publix and not our usual.
Had I been by myself, I would have left. We were followed by a guy who was completely skyed out. Passed by a couple shopping who smelled as if they just put the bong down and a homeless guy wouldn’t take No for an answer to helping us with his umbrella to load our car.
There is a reason this is the first Publix I’ve ever seen with an in-​store police officer roaming around.
This store is also laid out very differently than many others making it hard to find my usual items.
I picked up a pack of jerky that was sticky and then I noticed a sticker that said ‘Damaged item, do not reshelf’. Many of the produce, dairy and meat items were past the expiration date or really close to it. The meat section had many items that had a Sale item placard on the shelf but the prices didn’t match those on the actual product.
Overall, this is a no go.

I’m from South Florida and I have never really been to a «dirty» Publix. We stopped in to grab some water during a long walk and I was a bit shocked when I walked in. The area around this Publix does not seem safe. On the corner a prostitute was asking every man that walked by if they were interested, I am not exaggerating. It made me and my friend VERY uncomfortable. The inside was not much better. The service was excellent, just like I am used to.

I thought echo those of most reviewers. Too many loiterers around. Shame because the grocery store itself is well run.

Living in the city, you learn to accept poor parking and panhandlers. None of that really bothers me.
Avoid the deli area though! Two things always happen when I visit this publix to get a sandwich.
1. I wait in an ever expanding line for 20+ minutes while employees slowly and seemingly painfully construct sandwiches. Utilization of their employees seems to be inefficient. There is always one or two talking or standing around. Can’t say I have experience working there, so I try to give them the benefit of the doubt. It’s frustrating to witness when you are waiting that long though.
2. The employee making my sandwich at some point ignores me and begrudgingly makes a comment to their supervisor or nearest co-​worker that it’s time for their break or their shift is over soon. I get it, but try to be semi-​professional.

Good Publix with great service. Lavera is always great at checkout and there is always a good amount staff working the lines. My only problem is they are out of rotisserie chickens a lot of the time when I come which changes my whole dinner plan.

I absolutely love the employees at this Publix!
Kelvin in the hot food section always comes to make my sub (in only the way he can) if I request him. The other employees remember you and always speak. Cashiers are always attentive and make non-​annoying small talk.
The homeless around haven’t bothered me bc there’s always police on duty… or at least when I go.
4 stars bc they don’t carry some of the same things the other Publix locations do. Ex. I wanted lamb chops and the butcher said bc they only have 1 or 2 customers that request it, they don’t carry it much. He directed me to the Publix on Ponce.
Also, the parking lot can be kind of a hassle since it’s basically a one way circle. It’s also a little difficult getting out around rush hour.
Tip: if you know how to work Publix BOGO (buy 1 get 1), you can save a lot of money!

Decent Publix although there is still an issue with transients in the area. Otherwise it works if I’m in the area.

Very friendly cashiers. I have noticed lately there are fewer and fewer panhandlers. The parking lot is typically very crowded. Lkewise the store is smaller than most Publix markets and can get crowded.
If it weren’t conveniently located and did not offer 2 for 1 specials, I probably wouldn’t make my way here nearly as much. The prices actually can be competitive to those of kroger for some items.

This has to be the smallest Publix I have ever been in. The carts are not even big enough to do a decent run through let alone grab a quick lunch from the sandwich area.
Not only is it too small but you either get hassled by the homeless people in the parking lot or the rental cop that looks at you like you’re here to rob the place.
I try my best not to go here but sometimes you have to considering the other grocery store is Kroger on the corner of piss and urine on Ponce.

Service here is hit or miss… so far, the deli employees have been a miss, the ones working the floor are 50/​50, and at checkout they’ve squeaked by

This is hands-​down my favorite grocery store. They always go above and beyond for me and I appreciate every bit of it :).

I’m a fickle grocery store shopper with a fear of commitment. I’ll spend six months devoted to Trader Joe’s, before deciding they just don’t meet my needs and switch allegiances completely. For the past month, Publix has been my steady grocery store.
This one is a baby store, with abbreviated aisles and counters featuring only the highlights of your typical Publix. Don’t fear, they still have the delicious sandwich counter (that blows Subway out of the water) and the best grocery store sushi, there’s just a little less to chose from. However, if you’re a shopper who sticks to the perimeter of the grocery store (ie avoids the processed foods located towards the center of every grocery store), Publix is the place. Their meat selection is the best there is, with gorgeous, high quality cuts at very reasonable prices. It also seems like the butcher here knows his clientele, as steaks and chicken breasts are often packaged in single serving portions. Produce here is limited, but it’s always of high quality and has a long shelf life. I also love Publix brand frozen vegetables. They’re the only brand of frozen broccoli that I actually think tastes as good as fresh (same with the brussel sprouts).
Oh yeah, about the homeless people and shifty characters that roam the parking lot… meh. I love Publix (for now) and am willing to put up with it. I just wouldn’t come here late at night alone.

Every time I see the commercial for Publix that says «Where shopping is a pleasure» I think they must not shop at this particular Publix. Yes, it’s a grocery store and yes, it’s within walking distance for me which is why I come here. The store itself isn’t very clean on the inside or the outside. You just feel like it’s kind of grimey. They don’t carry a lot of the products that I would normally buy so I’m kind of limited when I decide to come here.
There are usually panhandlers hanging around the parking lot and although they normally don’t bother me, there are times when they’re outright annoying and pushy. Sometimes there is a cop who seems to be part of security but it doesn’t help. I once saw a guy with a shirt that said security who was clearly not security.
Since I frequent this Publix, I called a couple of years ago because my company was having a function and we needed a couple of food trays on relatively short notice (within four hours). I called and spoke with the deli person (a female but I don’t remember her name) who told me she was leaving at 5:00 and didn’t have time to do it. What? I get that we didn’t have an order pre-​made but to tell me you’re leaving is not good customer service. She said I could speak with the manager and I told her that would be fine. I told him what we needed (two sandwich trays and a cheese tray) and he said that they did not have time to do it because she was leaving at 5:00. OK! So I called the Publix on Howell Mill and they said, «No problem! Come on up!» OK! So THANK YOU to Publix on HOWELL MILL for accommodating our needs on such short notice. Btw, the Howell Mill store is very clean and they have more products.
There are a couple of cashiers who do a great job and who are efficient but the rest of them act as if you’re a huge inconvenience because you’re interrupting their conversation with the checker next to them or the person who bags the groceries. Some of the conversations are downright unacceptable for public. Seriously. I don’t care who your friend is f’ing and what his baby mama said. I really don’t.

What to say about this place? It is small and does not have a wide variety. There are panhandlers in the front. But, the cashiers are really friendly. Maybe it’s because I’m there 5 out of 7 days in the week. Who knows? It’s Publix so if you are familiar with their prices, it’s about the same: higher than most grocery stores. Although, their B1G1 sales are the best.
They recently had a little upgrade to their décor so it’s not as shabby. If it wasn’t in walking distance, I probably wouldn’t frequent here as much. But, it does the job for the most part. I just wish it were bigger and had more of a variety.

Shopping here is not a pleasure and I’ve decided I hate coming here. On my two most recent visits I pulled into the parking lot and left without getting out of my car. The last time I actually got out of the car I was confronted by a panhandler. I didn’t have any cash, but I did have some hot McD’s fries and I gave them to him. He had the nerve to tell me that the fries weren’t enough to feed his baby.
Huh?! Give me back my fries!
Parking sucks. The store is small. Check-​out is usually crowded. They have security, but clearly they don’t do anything to deter unwelcome nuisances that don’t make shopping a pleasure.
Blah.
