I went to this pop up during lunch today. I loved the atmosphere and concept but our order was lost and when the waitress realized she told us they were out of tortillas so our quesadillas had to be made into nachos. I was planning on a quick lunch and it took over 50 minutes to get our food. The salad was great and the nachos were just ok but reasonable for the price. I would be willing to come back again and try an actual quesadilla.

My experience occurred by a completely random interaction with a guy passing out fliers. I decided to meet my wife for a nice lunch and got the information from him. Turns it they hold it at the Lawrence once in a while. Seems that this is a King of Pops pop-up event The theme seems to be random and based upon the season, so this was about mac-and-cheese, a side, a drink, and a popsicle courtesy of King of Pops. The total cost, $ 8, which I considered a good deal based upon what I ordered. My order consisted of pumpkin mac-and-cheese, tomato and cucumber salad, a coke, and raspberry-pomegranate pop. I was highly impressed with the mac-and-cheese. A seasonal version with lots of yumminess. I truly enjoyed the salad; nice and refreshing. The tips: 1. Good meal at a good price. The portions were perfect for a filling lunch. I didn’t feel like I needed more after leaving. 2. King of Pops as a dessert? Shoot yeah. While there were only three options of bars it still worked for me. 3. This is a two day promotion, so go for it when it arrives. Parking is sparse as well. Get there at a decent time so you can avoid the lunch rush. Service seemed a little slow but our food came out nice and warm and yummy. Good stuff.

I managed to drop into King(or is it Kings? I swear they’re cloning tall blonde dudes with aviators) of Pop’s new pop up, Queso King today. They’re setup on Thursdays at the Lawrence during lunch hours and seem to have a new cheese based concept each week — this week grilled cheese and soup, while last week was quesadillas and salad. It’s hard to beat the deal as it’s a choice of sandwich, soup, drink(including Miller High Life) and popsicle for $ 8. They post their menu on Facebook shortly before opening. The food was pretty darned good — all the bread is from H&F and everything appears to be scratch made. The turkey on my Grilled Thanksgiving(brie, turkey, cranberry, sweet potato) was off the frame(and chain) and completely tender and delectable. The only unfortunate part of the sandwich was that the King went overboard with the cranberry which entirely masked all of the other ingredients on the sandwich. I happen to like cranberry, so it wasn’t offensive, but I wish I could have tasted more of the individual components. The soup, while not transcendent, was also very good. Again, it’s hard to beat this deal from one of Atlanta’s local street-food mavens. Give it a try on Thursdays and see for yourself.
