In reality they probably get more like a 2.5 star. I’m almost sure you don’t have to be a professional or licensed in any particular area to work at these beauty stores. That’s really a shame, because it makes getting an answer to beauty related questions a chore sometimes. Recently, I received a booklet of coupons in the mail and there was one for a free container of hair color, and with spring/summer on the forefront, I’m thinking of going blonde. I went in and the choices were somewhat overwhelming. I’ve colored my own hair in the past and know that some hair colors work best on certain types of hair. So I inquired with the clerk, if one was better for African American hair than the other, and she replied, no, they all work the same. I happen to know this is not true. Hair colors have different base colors and it makes a difference, because if you have a light color in your hair, and you use a hair color with a blue base, your hair is going to come out green. I was disappointed that the lady that worked here didn’t take any time to go over that with me, so I have to assume she either didn’t know, or doesn’t care if I come up with green hair. As I was checking out, I was quite shocked that she didn’t try and suggestive sell me any type or peroxide, gloves, mixing bowls or anything else. Normally staffed by at least two clerks, but it behooves you to know what you want and need before you go in, because no one is going to be able to answer any technical questions for you.
