Ordered the Jamaican Jerk EXTRAHOT Seasoning 4 oz bag online to cook some island-style jamaican jerk chicken. I can’t believe how good these were. My entire family was raving over the recipe and we’ll be making it again. Using Savory Spice Shop’s pre-mixed seasoning AND their recipe for a marinade saved me a lot of time and made some delicious jerk chicken that was as good as anything I’ve eaten in Jamaica itself. Highly recommended. Seasoning: Marinade Recipe: Portions: 2 ounces of the seasoning mixed into the marinade was enough for 2.5 pounds of chicken. Marinade for 24 hours in fridge Cooking time: 20 minutes in oven, 20 minutes on grill

Went there this Saturday for their grand opening and won a huge selection of their spices! Bought a few blends to bbq chicken and salmon. Cool place– definitely check it out if you like to cook!

MOVEOVERPENZEYS. My mom was visiting to help me pack and told me she wanted to go to Penzey’s. Ugh, I thought, I don’t want to go all the way out there. While surfing Unilocal,I came across Savory Spice Shop and headed over to their website. Within 3 minutes, I texted her the address and said we are going here. Now besides being a mile away from my new place, what makes Savory Spice Shop better than Penzey’s? Let me count the ways… 1. You can buy an ounce in a bag of pretty much everything. You aren’t limited to expensive glass bottles for a small amount. And they’re decent zip bags. They’re certainly not for long term storage but they’re no generic ziplocks. 2. You can taste and smell pretty much everything. This can be slightly problematic if you go messing around with the ghost pepper salt and curry, but on the other side of the store there are four flavored sugars to make things better. They also had 3 or 4 samples of food out made with their seasonings, from cheese and herb popcorn to hibiscus tea. 3. The sales associates will make sure you don’t miss a thing. It reminds me a lot of Teavana in this respect because it almost feels like you’re being pressured into buying more than you want, especially when you walk in and are shown $ 11 an ounce truffle salt. But it still feels like a place where it’d be okay to spend hours. 4. They will print you out recipes for specific seasonings if you’re not sure of where to start with something you’ve fallen in love with. 5. They have a frequent buyers club. 6. They have a lot of very cool regional spices, as they come up with one for each state they open in. For example, Georgia has not only a BBQ spice but also a cinnamon spiced sugar inspired by peach pie. 7. They blend stuff weekly on site. Everything just all around seems fresher, you have to come in here to believe me on the gorgeous color of the dried dill they sell. If you search Savory Spice you’ll find that apparently there was a lawsuit because the founder of it copied everything about some Penzeys’ relative’s store in Chicago after he worked there… and I find it very hard to give a shit about this given that’s how plenty of places operate. …I mean how else does one expect a spice shop to work… it seems like there isn’t much to have a variety about. I am in love with their Aleppo pepper, chocolate sugar(yes), and the Georgia peach spice. I’ll definitely be back to replenish my spice rack… unfortunately because I was just moving, I didn’t get to take advantage of turning in my old, competitor spices for $ 1 off theirs in September, but that won’t stop me!
