Spanish Lessons 4 You

I completely disagree with Cynthia (a previous reviewer) about the lessons being more frustrating than helpful. I came to Roberto with practically ZERO Spanish knowledge and through his excellent teaching I learned quite a bit. I took lessons with him for about three months and then I went to Peru! I just returned from Peru with even more knowledge, but Roberto absolutist provided me with a solid foundation from which to learn more and get by while in a Spanish-​speaking country. The speaking-​portions of the lessons are difficult, but they are supposed to be. You can never learn anything if you don’t put yourself in really uncomfortable situations that force you to try things you haven’t before. No pain no gain! You simply have to have discussions in order to learn.
Roberto was a good teacher. He has extra homework and lessons that will help you with reading/​writing and comprehension faster. He also recommended some really good books that I have been working out of for more practice. I took Spanish classes in Peru as well, so I know that not all Spanish-​teachers are good! Roberto is very patient which you need in a foreign-​language teacher! I am personally pretty bummed he decided to move out west, because now I’ll have to find someone new!

I loved working on my Spanish with Roberto and am really sad that he’s moving to the west coast. He’s very good at identifying how people learn best, and then helping you to learn in that style, which is so important – he has great lesson plans and tips/​ideas of ways you can practice when you’re not working with him. He was able to resurrect all my high school and college Spanish and quickly get me conversational. He was always very invested in my progress and enthusiastic about helping me to improve. Plus always very organized, prompt, and flexible schedule-​wise, which is always a plus. Five stars!

I purchased discounted lessons through Living Social, and I had my lessons with Roberto, who I thought was very nice and patient.
However, the lessons were far too advanced for me — I speak basic Spanish and I know grammar only through the present tense. I felt that the speaking portion of the lesson was extremely difficult. I communicated this to Roberto and he gave me some tips to learn faster — flash cards, making up conversations, etc. rather than modifying the lessons.
I’ve taken Spanish classes before — in high school, through Emory’s continuing education classes, and at GA Perimeter, and I was hoping these lessons would help me learn to speak better, but the time I spent with Roberto was more frustrating than helpful. And I didn’t have the time to study both grammar and vocabulary on my own to be able to communicate fully with him.
If you are someone with an intermediate level knowledge of grammar and sentence structure, you will enjoy these lessons. But I think a beginner would have a bit more difficulty.
