Swirll is another one of the million self-serve frozen yogurt shops to invade the Atlanta area. The city is probably oversaturated by now, but at least this one is in a decent location, within walking distance from many restaurants and also a healthier alternative to the ice cream parlor chain, also within walking distance. In case you’ve never been to a self-serve shop, the concept everywhere is generally the same. Choose any combination of the ~16 flavors they have(some flavors were not available when I visited), add toppings if you’d like, pay by weight($ 0.45/oz, I believe… not a whole lot of signage inside Swirll). I’m a pretty plain kind of guy, so I don’t usually go for the cake, candy bar, super rich flavors. On my visit, I chose… wait for it… plain tart. No complaints about it. The toppings bar was VERY clean and organized — this can be a hit or miss at self-serve shops(often a miss… strewn toppings, toppings getting mixed into other ones, etc), so credit to the employee working Saturday night. The topping bar was also vast, with pretty much any topping you could want. There is plenty of both inside and outside of Swirll. The whole shopping center, Perimeter Place, was clearly designed to be walkable, so there are plenty of benches everywhere(look around the flagpole). Atlanta has more than enough frozen yogurt shops at this point, but I guess as a consumer I can’t really complain about having options. Swirll is fine… nothing especially stands out, and nothing was bad about it, hence my 3 stars. P. S. As I was checking out, I overheard another customer asked an employee what they use to make their yogurt, and the employee answered that it’s YoCream product. I checked, and YoCream has a lot of information online, including nutrition, so hopefully that’s helpful to some of you.

Swirll caught on the froyo chain late! BUT…I’ll give it a try. Their froyo is very sweet and it doesn’t seem like it would carry all the healthy benefits with all the sugar and artificial flavors infused in it. I will say that their cantaloupe flavor is very delicious.

Nothing special. Just frozen yogurt. The only good thing is they open late.

When it comes to frozen yogurt, I don’t do the sweet ice-cream like flavors. I prefer the tangy, fruity flavors. Swirll is in the same category as Menchie’s and Yogli Mogli — with offerings more like ice cream and for dessert than healthy, Asian-style frogurt. Since I didn’t see any appeal in the pecan praline or any of the other ice-creamish flavors, I tried just the original and the strawberry. Both were overly tangy — too acidic, not creamy enough, just generally off-putting. The selection of toppings was decent, and even included mochi, but after a few tastes of the yogurt, I just wasn’t excited about any of it. Prices are comparable to other frogurt in the area. There’s easy parking. At 6:30 on a sunday, there were only 2 other customers, so not too busy. #Yelp365 — 286⁄365

Wow! I think I need a private moment… Their Pecan Praline fro-yo is out-of-this-world amazing!!! And it’s low cal, no sugar added. I’ve been dieting, so perhaps I’ve been without sugar for far too long, but that stuff was seriously good. Added bonus for fellow cal/carb/fat counters: all of their nutritional info for each flavor is clearly posted on each yogurt machine.
