Actually, not closed! Just moved a little ways north – now on Buford Hwy just north of Jimmy Carter on the left. Same exact setup as the old place.

TGS(aka«The Gun Store») is a little-known shop in Doraville that has a pretty impressive selection for its size. Its main concentrations are mostly conventional(non-NFA) self-loading/semi-auto pistols and rifles, but they do manufacture some cool Class III hardware(short-barreled Saiga-12s, for instance) for those that can afford the paperwork. There is also a small assortment of bolt-action weapons for the hunting-inclined as well as some apparent C&R handguns. And unlike many mom-and-pop shops, TGS has kept up with recent trends in firearms — the displays are amply stocked with XDs, FNPs, and Gen-4 Glocks. The staff that I’ve interacted with are exceptionally helpful and prone to strike up good conversation, gun-related and otherwise. After doing some post-visit homework and talking with the manager/proprietor during a second«palming,» I was offered a discount on an already competitively-priced item. As expected, the process was very smooth and I walked out of the store a happy«future repeat customer.» Two quick facts: TGS doesn’t charge for the background check and they do not perform transfers. Both of these may be minor points for most purchasers, but I figure they’re worth noting for the sake of completeness. Why pay as much(or more) at a place with grumpy, overworked, and potentially inexperienced employees when you can buy quality from friendly people? I’d happily recommend TGS to both new and experienced shooters looking for a good local deal.
