Stopped in before a show at the Masquerade. Great service from Shawn E. Nice beer selection, menu is awesome. Had the Brussels and the Sweetbreads. Honestly the Sweetbread’s gave me a food erection! The dish was sublime. Krog St. Market is a gem.

This place was beyond amazing. We are loyal customers at Spotted Trotter but had not gotten around to trying The Cockentrice yet. Wow, we have been missing out! The charcuterie board was the first thing we ordered and, uh, wow! Everything on it(I can’t remember what we ordered) was spectacular. We opted for the ginormous steak which my husband and I split(and still had tons leftover). My daughter had the scallops. Everything was prepared, plated, and served artfully. The service was fabulous, by the way. The atmosphere is very cool and industrial which we liked. Great restaurant for my husband’s birthday celebration. Thank you!

We’ve been to The Cockentrice several times and always been«wowed«. The food is delicious, unique and beautifully presented. The charcuterie is excellent, cocktail menu innovative, and the menu changes all the time with seasonal local items featured. We’ve done the Tuesday chef tastings 2x, and for $ 35 it’s a great value for exceptional meals. There are other places at Krog Street, and each has its charms, but for a truly innovative meal, by a classically trained chef, you can’t beat Kevin Ouzts at The Cockentrice.

I really enjoyed my dinner at Cockentrice! As a person that often orders veggie entrees while eating out(though I’m not actually a vegetarian), I wasn’t sure I’d like such a meat-heavy restaurant. My husband and I — along with my grandma and 8-month old baby — decided to try it out on a Tuesday night, when they have a special tasting menu(only $ 39 for 5-courses, $ 25 for the pairing menu). The food was excellent — I was impressed with the interesting range and great taste of each of the courses, and the wine pairings were very thoughtfully chosen.(The one exception for me was the dessert course, just a little too rich, particularly paired with a sweet madeira.) The presentation of the food is also great — I think presentation alone made my grandma decide this is her new favorite restaurant in the city. In addition to great food, Cockentrice also had great service — very accommodating of the baby, and they made an exception to the rule that the whole table has to order the tasting menu so my grandma could just order off the menu(and she loved her salt and pepper shrimp risotto!). Service was prompt without being rushed or hovering — all of the servers were very friendly. Overall great restaurant — I’ll definitely be returning!

About Cockentrice(from their website): «With this first restaurant, Chef Ouzts is in the kitchen to share his passion for details with Atlanta’s dining scene. Together with his culinary team as well as on-site butchers purveying the finest pastured meats and cheese mongers partnering hand-in-hand with premium local dairies, Chef Ouzts presents a decisive menu utilizing the preeminent ingredients he’s become known for at The Spotted Trotter. Think fire-grilled, smoked, roasted, sous vide, barded, and larded dishes, cooked in an open kitchen that will celebrate new American cooking techniques while still paying homage to the thousands-year-old traditions of charcuturie and meat cookery. Indeed, together with its guests, The Cockentrice hopes to put New American Charcuterie on the map in the Southeast and beyond.» My dinner club went here for dinner. We were seated at a long table close to the kitchen. It was so smoky for some reason. Didn’t like that. Also, I found the chairs to be very hard. My butt hurt into the evening. We were surprised by a treat from the chef. I believe it was some sort of fritter. Oh man. So good! I wish I coulda had more. I started off my order with some charcuterie. I mean, when in Rome. I didn’t like the flavor of the meat that I chose. It came with what I believe was a quail egg. How interesting. Definitely, a unique flavor. They didn’t have what I wanted for my main dish. I forget what it was — but many at our table wanted it and had to come up with new orders. It really was the only thing I wanted so it was tough to come up with an alternate. I got the beef pillows. I was not a fan of the flavor of this at all. I ate enough to somewhat satisfy my stomach, but didn’t finish it. Saying alot since it wasn’t a particularly huge serving to begin with. Sadly, The Cockentrice was a thumbs down for me.

My review is of the bar experience only. The bartender was extremely professional and I liked the atmosphere. Quite a few dates happening here — gay and straight — and other. And reminded me of some of my favorite big-city bar hotels, in a good way. However, food menu was bizarre and overpriced. Drinks were good and best thing was the choice of glassware to serve cocktails. In an interesting, if hipster, location, but I’d go back. Good place to meet for a first date.

We didn’t eat here, all we ordered was drinks. Our bartender, Matt, did an excellent job. He really knows his stuff, and we enjoyed talking to him about his craft. We didn’t order anything off the menu… we just told him what we like(me-bourbon, hubby-smoky), and he did the rest. He also shared some great local knowledge with us about the surrounding area of Inman Park. The drinks were pretty pricey(~$ 13), but well worth it. The menu was also pricey, but if they commit the same craftsmanship to the food as they do to the drink, I’m sure that it is worth it as well. They have a tasty looking snack menu for just $ 4-$ 12ish that we would have ordered from if we would have had time. I’d recommend it for sure, for drinks, and would love to return in the future for a meal or apps.

Very tasty on the whole, but goodness they are pricy. $ 1.00 a piece for water service? Already spending over $ 65.00 a person on food alone. Good wines knowledgeable staff. The fresh tastings /appetizer platter was great.

Dinner here was everything I hoped it would be. We came in for the«Tuesday tasting» on a whim. Debated about going off regular menu but server talked us into doing the tasting– I’m so glad we did! It was amazing. Its an all or nothing thing for the table, but the wine pairing was up to each individual person. I went with the wine pairing since I drink everything & prefer to drink something that compliments the meal. My husband likes cabernet and whiskey, so selected his own drinks :) The tuesday tasting was sooo good, we ended up back again a few weeks later and loved it just as much! Its seriously so much food, you really don’t need to order anything else. Of course, us being the foodies we are, we had to both times and then struggled to finish our food. We added aged beef tartar the first time and a charcutterie board the second time. Since then we have stopped in a few times for drinks and apps at the bar while grabbing a steak from the Spotted Trotter, as well as dragged a group of friends here for dinner on a weekend. We are yet to try something we didn’t love. This place is great and will continue to be a favorite of ours. Oh and if you’re a vegetarian, don’t pass this place up even though its known for meat. The Study in Vegetables entrée is an amazing entrée and the cheese selection is great too!

What a great accidental meal. We stepped in on a Sunday night without reservations and were seated right away. Instead of a charcuterie plate, which is what Cockentrice leads with, we opted for a few small plates to share. It’s interesting that the restaurant recommends this because the tables are long and don’t lend themselves well for sharing. My husband and I were seated at either end of a long table, and the plates themselves were too hot to the touch to pass back and forth. Instead, we had to leave the plates at the center of the table and reach pretty far to put together a bite, hurrying our forks back to our mouths before the food spilled to the table. Other than the quite loud dining room, close seating to your neighbors and oddly long tables, the food itself — our reason for the evening! — was really great: sweet potato pillows with white raisin, madeira and bacon caramel(nearly dessert!); crispy ox tail and honey mushrooms with shallot, cauliflower mushroom, scallion and candied local ginger; and salt and pepper shrimp risotto with Arborio rice, fermented apple, andouille, gruyère cheese and shaved matsutake mushroom. We both felt so pleased with each dish that we couldn’t pick a favorite. The combination of these three was excellent. For dessert, I had pork belly ice cream, and my husband had banana ice cream. The servings were the perfect size, yet the pork belly ice cream disappointed me. I’d hoped for the fatty pork belly to somehow be combined into the ice cream in a savory, salty way. Yet the runner who delivered dessert(not our server), set it in front of me calling it «bacon ice cream.» A bit of foreboding, with the recent bacon craze, and a disappointment indeed — flavorless ice cream with bacon bits sprinkled throughout. When I’d get a spoonful of ice cream without any bacon in it, there was no detection of pork belly flavor. Regardless of the dessert disappointment and the restaurant being out of the wine I ordered, the meal was really quite tasty, and our server had a great personality. He also seemed aware of the restaurant’s din and leaned close to talk with us. I appreciated this, as sometimes servers stand tall with their voice carrying over you while you smile, nod and pretend to have heard. I’d return to Cockentrice happily, with other dishes on their current menu calling to me.

While visiting Atlanta from Michigan we were taken to Krog st. marketing area by family. We were delighted at the array of shops and bars in the Krog st. market area(especially the chocolatier — oh the heavenly smells!) The restaurant and bar were beautifully decorated, very warm, comfortable with exposed brick, golden-filamented antique light bulbs, wrought-iron and cinnamon polished wood. Service was excellent – but rather pretentious – looong, florid, wordy descriptions of dishes that didn’t increase understanding or add to the experience. The menu was irritating, just a list of dishes – the dishes aren’t separated into appetizer, 1st course, small-plate, dinner, etc. The charcuterie portion of the menu was also confusing; I would have liked to see different font weights used to separate areas of the menu, options, etc. The charcuterie & cheese portions were pathetically small. We routinely purchase Rosette de Lyon salami for $ 20/lb. but we still expected a bit more than 4 transparent, ½-dollar-sized, paper-thin slices for $ 7. Overall we paid $ 56 for what amounted to about 1−½ oz. of meat and cheeses. Hm. Main course was beautifully plated, but I ordered my strip-steak rare and it came almost medium-well and had 2 big gristly, unchewable hanks of connective tissue that I’ve never had on a strip. The flavor was excellent, fat crisply-brown and melting, the demi-glacé butter sauce was lovely… but the meat was tough and overcooked. The vegetable accompaniment was delicious — best fried okra and peppers I’ve ever had(I am an okra fiend), bacon cornbread was rich, dense, and flavorful, braised beans earthy. I’d probably skip dining in again as there are so many other places to try — but I’d buy meat from The Spotted Trotter(had some meat that was purchased from the shop and it was fantastic.)

We’ve been buying meat and charcuterie from Spotted Trotter since the day it opened. So imagine our excitement at the idea of gorging on some of the finest meats available now at the Cockentrice, Kevin’s latest venture. We dined during brunch a few weeks ago: while its concept is brilliant, the Cockentrice was an incredible disappointment. Front of house staff spent more time chatting and texting than taking orders and serving food. The chefs, or in this case cooks, moved around the kitchen at a sleep-walking pace. Food service was incredibly slow despite the fact there were only three other tables. Three of us ordered the cheeseburger and all three were cold in the center. Fries were cold too and tasted like they had been left out on the counter since the night before. My wife ordered the fried chicken: also cold. I’m not really sure what was going on here because the low energy, indifferent service at Cockentrice is not indicative of it’s retail cousin The Spotted Trotter where first-rate quality and experience are king. Not sure I’d ever go back to dine for any reason other than to buy tomahawk ribeyes and duck breasts from the counter out front.

If you’re looking for a very meat-centric dinner than Cockentrice is your place. Located in Krog Street Market, the restaurant is a little more up-scale than Superica and a little more masculine than the Luminary. Very chill ambiance with dark woods — a craftsman’s dream dining room. The origin’s of the restaurant’s namesake goes back to the Medieval ages when cooks would combine different animal parts to form a new animal, hence the restaurant’s emblem of a pig’s head on a rooster’s body. Service was great and friendly. Our server let us try different samples of wine before we ordered. For apps, we ordered a couple items off the charcuterie menu and these were excellent. For entrees, we had the Slate Roasted Blue Cheese Cured New York Strip with the trademark edible«stones» which are just potatoes rubbed with black salt and grilled octopus which was a little tough served with slices of cured Chinese pork sausage(nice little twist). For dessert, we had the apple pie which is baked to order — was a little forgettable and the inside was still a little cold.

This was a very different and interesting place to enjoy a southern heritage dinner. Our guest from NY did not understand the complexity of the meal. Best vegetable section and cheese with sausage. Enjoyed everything!

This was the second restaurant I tried at Krog Street. Ordered Iberico Pork, Mahon Cheese, Chorizo Stuffed Chicken Wings, and HangerSteak. All the dishes were great and presented very well on that plate. However, I am 5 starring it mainly for the stuffed chicken wings. First time trying a dish like that. I was told it was a temporary menu item so it may not even be there anymore but I hope it is!!!

What an amazing meal. We stumbled on here on a Tuesday evening and did the chefs tasting menu. Only $ 25 for 5 courses and each course was better than the previous. Chicken pâté, cracking pork, black cod, lamb and finished off with apple confit with churos. Also did the wine pairing for only $ 20 more and the wine selections were awesome. I could go on and on. Will definitely come back the next time we are in Atlanta. Can not recommend this place enough!

Charcuterie plate is my main squeeze! I saw the Spotted Trotter and was bummed I couldn’t take anything back with me to LA, so I walked into The Cockentrice, which utilizes their cured meats! I was about to order a huge platter but then I noticed a little Tuesday tasting menu for just $ 25! Some of the dishes had fancy names but I just couldn’t pass this up. Every dish was so unique and SPECTACULAR! Especially when cured meats are used in every dish, the foods can get a little salty, but not at The Cockentrice. Each dish was carefully prepared and plated, with different textures(crunchy, creamy, pickled, smooth). The dishes seemed small at first, but it ended up being pretty filling without feeling heavy. The presentation was also beautiful! For two of the dishes, the sauces are poured at the table for some added flair! My dinner started off with a puff pastry filled with Coppa meat, chèvre cheese, and pickled blueberries(love pickled fruits!). The next dish was smoked trout and nduja(this one was like a fried ball and soft salami) on top of a corn slaw. And then my favorite dish of the evening was a poached scallop(super tender) on top of a thin, crispy corn bread muffin in a bowl of dashi soup broth. The last savory dish was a duck saucisson, which was crispy on the top and paired with sweet carrots and fig sauces. Then there were two desserts! Waffle and ice cream, and a complimentary French sugar cookie. I highly recommend The Cockentrice. Also a bonus to hang around Krog St Market. There are so many cute vendors here and plenty of places to drink.

While The Cockentrice seems to have a complex cocktail list, there wasn’t much on it that appealed to me. I did choose the vodka-based Harlequin. While it certainly was pretty, it was a little too sweet for me. For charcuterie, we settled on the Bresaola($ 8), Prosciutto($ 10) and Hot Trotter Mortadella. Served up with some delicious jam and olive-oil drizzled bread, dinner was off to a good start. My lamb loin was prepared in the sous vide style and was every bit as tender and flavorful as I would have expected. While the rabbit preparation was on point, I disliked the infusion of Boursin into the entrée. Instead of adding to it, it detracted from the rabbit. Our server knew the menu inside and out and was very adept at making suggestions with cheeses, wine and entrees. Unfortunately, once our entrees arrived we barely saw her again. This happens quite often at restaurants, but I would not have expected this here. While I certainly like to take my time to enjoy dinner, the long lags in between courses were a bit absurd. I have been waiting in anticipation for The Cockentrice to open. I knew they would be able to produce some amazing food since they cured, smoked, and stuff some incredible meat. I was definitely not disappointed! I was part of a party of 3 people at 7pm on a Saturday night. Their online reservation system said there were no tables available when I tried to reserve on Thursday. A quick call to the restaurant and I was able to get the reservation no problem. We got our table right by the window facing Krog St and looked over the menu. The server was a bit disinterested at first, but once we started asking questions and suggestions he quickly warmed up. We knew we wanted to start with charcuterie and an appetizer before moving on to entrees. Our charcuterie board consisted of duck prosciutto, pâté, and a sheep’s milk cheese(the name escapes me). All three were served on a gorgeous wood board with delicious breads, carrot gel, pickled beets, and beet purée. The carrot gel was so amazing! It paired so nicely with the pâté and fantastic bread. The next appetizer we got were the suckling pig grattons. This was the single greatest dish of the evening. We were perfectly ok with just having that dish and calling it a night it was that amazing. The dish comes with 3 perfectly crispy, yet succulent pieces of suckling pig on a skewer and is served with Jerusalem artichoke whip, brandied apricot gastrique, and warm pork belly mustard. The mustard was the perfect pairing with suckling pig. I haven’t had suckling pig since Trois shuttered in Midtown and this overfills the void! For my entrée, I was indecisive, but finally chose the ox tail marmalade. HOLYWOW. The ox tail melted like butter and was presently beautifully! It also came served with a carrot purée and grilled romanescu. Even though I was getting full I couldn’t let a single bite go to waste! At this point, we were done, or so I thought. We were going to grab some Jeni’s ice cream for dessert, but thought, eh, let’s take a look at what they’ve got. They have 3 desserts… and we ordered all three. I snagged the goat cheese panna cotta. GOAT. CHEESE. PANNACOTTA. Yes it is as amazing as it sounds! I’m so glad we stayed for dessert as it was the perfect ending to a wonderful meal. There wasn’t a single thing I would’ve done differently! With the check we got some chocolate chip pecan cookies as a thank you. So thoughtful! BESTNEWRESTAURANTINTHENEIGHBORHOOD!
