12/12/2015. During a weekend to Atlanta I wanted to try something I hadn’t tried before and so I went to the cockpit. As I was walking in I threw an empty Wendy’s bag and cup in what I mistakenly thought was the trash can near the entrance. BIGMISTAKE as this was apparently a large ashtray. One of the bartenders flew outside before I even hit the door and I caught the tail end of his shriek, «THROWINGSOMETHINGINTHETRASHTHATISSOOBVIOUSLYNOTTHETRASH!» Dang this guy should have been a Soviet border patrol. I tried to retrieve the bag myself and he snatched it up, walked it to an actual trash can a few steps away and made a BIGSHOW out of making me look like a contemptible idiot. After entering, every one of the 10 or so people in attendance looked at me and I can’t imagine what they were thinking. Kind of sad, because: 1) I had one drink instead of the three or four I likely would have had. 2) It obviously colored my view on this place. Not only am I unlikely to come back, I am posting this review and stuff like this kills businesses. I wish the new owners luck because with this staff person they are going to need it. That level of sad and bitter has no business dealing with the public because it ain’t his bag. Histrionics and shriek theater are best left to drag shows and John Waters movies. I grew up working in a family business and I can’t imagine myself treating anyone the way I was treated.

It has to be the only bar/restaurant in Atlanta that does not have a veggie burger on the menu. What would have been dinner and drinks for two at least once a week became one drink tonight. Too bad, because now I have to find another neighborhood bar to eat(and drink).

It’s a pleasure to have this place open again. Friendly, neighborhood bar with a great owner and great bartenders, Scott & Nich. Stop by and relax for a little while, you’ll love it!

Thankfully, Cockpit has been resurrected by responsible new owners. The inside still looks much like the former restaurant, «Gravy,» which is an improvement from the darker, starker former Cockpit setup. I was there on a recent Friday night and the bar was relatively full. The one bartender, a friendly young man, was working his tail off to keep up and he did very well. This is a rare Atlanta gay bar where you actually drink out of real glasses, not plastic cups. Nice outside patio for the smokers, too. I believe some food items will be offered, and more theme nights and other fun things to come. Very glad to see that we have this option in Grant Park now(and plenty of parking out front and up in the back). Please give Cockpit another try!

I’ve been to the Cockpit twice now and have been impressed both times. A friendly crowd mixed with an amicable staff and strong drinks make for an enjoyable experience.

Finally. Finally. Finally! Grant Park has a proper bar and all it took was the gay men to bring it. Dark, exposed brick, stylish. Pool table and friendly staff. Full menu on the way and if it’s anything like the free BBQ it’s gonna be good. The drinks are reasonable too. I may have found my home away from home.
