Good food comes from good people who have a love and appreciation for the art. Chef Tomohiro Naito is just about as nice as they come. Hands down the worlds best 1-on-1 omakase experience. When I say 1-on-1, I mean it; Chef Tomohiro preparing many amazing, surprising and unpredictable courses just for me pretty much all night. When you make a reservation at this exceptionally fine establishment and indicate you are interested in an Omakase, this place goes into superservice gear. The manager Cliff(who is amazing and provides phenomenal service) gets in touch to aid the Chef in designing the perfect dining experience just for you. Expect to answer questions like this: 1. What is your budget? Normally $ 100 per person; 9 – 10 courses. At the $ 125-$ 150 mark, exotic ingredients such as caviar, truffles and foie start to appear on the menu. 2. How many times have you dined with us? More lunch or dinner? Is this your first omakase? 3. What items must you have? 4. What items do you not want? 5. Do you have any allergies? 6. Do you eat red meat? Chef Tomohiro designed his restaurant around the Omakase model. at the end of the sushi bar, he has a built in omakase table — enjoy your 1 on 1 time with Chef Tomohiro. Again, unlike our well known friend in NY(Nakazawa), if Chef Tomohiro is out, they do NOT offer the Omakase which is the way it should be. Have you ever heard of a serious artist having a substitute work on his behalf? I have of a few actually ;-) The food was a 10+ course meal made up of some exotic and unique courses and some perfectly prepared traditional sushi courses. not a single complaint from me: Live Lobster, Lamb, Live Clam, Amazing Nigiri, Soft-shell crawfish and so much more. While I have not been there for this yet, I can’t wait to go: On a weekly basis, Chef Tomohiro does a cutting demonstration of a whole head-on tuna. «They proudly serve farm raised Japanese Ten Qoo Maguro. Unlike other fish, Ten Qoo is not genetically modified and is only fed raw fish.» Sign up for their fun news letter. Probably the only restaurant news letter I’ve ever read. Always interesting and educational. Thank you team TOMO for an AMAZING10 Star Experience…

Dinner is amazing! Lunch is okay. But the staff could be much more polite. You’re basically lucky if they make eye contact with you. And when they do make eye contact, they don’t say hello, thank you, or goodbye; they just look away.

So far this is my favorite sushi place in Atlanta. The fish is really fresh and the atmosphere is great. It has pretty décor, pleasant staff(except one waitress who is really aggressive, but I won’t fault them for one person) there is valet and you can make reservations. They offer real crab meat if you don’t like imitation and one of the most impressive things they offer is on their lunch menu. The bento boxes are unreal; they’re huge and you can have a variety of entrees(rolls, nigiri, sashimi and various cooked choices like teriyaki chicken). The bento box is a steal, but otherwise this place can get pricy. I highly recommend!

Another birthday dinner… Enjoyed my meal. Kept it very simple with a California roll, lobster roll, soup and green tea. I occasionally have cravings for sushi but I don’t eat it often. This sushi was fresh and delicious. They also offer a sampler with salad appetizer sushi and dessert for $ 50.

I brought my family of 4 including myself to Tomo the Saturday after Christmas during my trip back home to Atlanta for the holidays. After they came to NYC to visit me this past year, my mom has continued to crave authentic edomae omakase and I wanted to give her that. I chose this restaurant because this restaurant actually had the best of both worlds since the other guests in the party don’t enjoy sushi as much and because this was the top recommended Japanese place in all of Atlanta. I have to admit I was disappointed. I guess my expectations were too high and I shouldn’t be comparing it to NYC or Japan, but I will; in hopes that others coming can better set their expectations. This restaurant is the Atlanta equivalent of Nobu in terms of food, style, and price. Regarding the sushi experience, this will not be traditional edomae omakase even if you sit at the chef’s counter. The chef’s counter omakase is the only true omakase, but it is still very fusion and modern in nature(not that it’s a bad thing). There are only 4 seats and they book out about a week in advance. The other sushi bar seats are not equivalent to the sushi bar at any Japanese restaurant in NYC or Japan. Pieces are served in a platter and there is no interaction with the string of workers behind the bar who are busy churning out maki platters and elevated California rolls. Upon seeing that our counter reservation would be not be served by the piece, we opted to sit together at a table instead so we could talk and share. The fish itself was a pleasant surprise as they have a great selection including fish from Tokyo Bay given that Atlanta is very landlocked. It was fresh and cut well. Regarding the cooked food, we were most excited to try their waygu steaks as we were told they were A5 grade. They are thin ribeyes which worked well for how fatty they were. They are small so we ended up getting 2. The other apps and sides are better than I would’ve expected, but do not compared to restaurant quality in NYC. The biggest disappointment was their service. We ordered sake tastings that were left unexplained and laid on the table without any labels. We were given 2 sets of salad/soup for 4 people. The waiter was unable to answer questions about their dishes and fish availability. No one came by to check on us or pour us water or take our orders unless we explicitly flagged them down. Not worth the price you pay or the expectation of a high end restaurant in Buckhead. In summary, expect to overpay, don’t expect great service, and expect to have the better tasting and more authentic Japanese food than you expect in Atlanta, but don’t expect it to compare to a place like Ushiwakamaru or Kanesaka. Come for a Nobu-type experience in Atlanta for Nobu-type cost.

By far one of the best sushi restaurants I’ve ever been to! Taste: The taste of the sushi is so fresh and you can tell it’s all made with the best ingredients. Everything tasted as great as it looked! Presentation was very pretty and everything was decorated to show sushi in its finest state. Venue and Parking: We parked across the street in the parking garage. I liked that there were plenty of spaces and the restaurant gives you validation upon paying! The restaurant itself is pretty small and doesn’t have very much space for super large groups. It’s decorated very nicely, though. There are pretty lights upon entering the restaurant where you will be greeted by the hostess at a podium. It seems almost like just a straight hall-like style to the other side of the restaurant. The chefs prepare the sushi in the back corner and you can watch through the glass divider. Service: The service was great. It didn’t seem like our server was too enthusiastic about everything but she was able to promptly provide everything we needed for our meal. It was kind of busy so she looked a bit rushed towards the end. She did check on us maybe once. Overall, I don’t blame the server since they do seem to be very busy and she was nice. Recommendations: We had the sushi sashimi plate and there was plenty to go around. I liked that it had a variety of sashimi to choose from. If you are sharing, I recommend getting that. My favorites were the spicy scallop roll and the spicy tuna roll. The sauce on the spicy scallop was so good I had to finish every last drop of it. I would definitely recommend coming to try this place, It doesn’t disappoint! Just wish it was bigger to feel more comfortable while dining!

Illusion of an epic modern twist on sushi. This place will not make you cry, but it will also not make you smile. And I assume you wish to smile… here looking at a review for an expensive(very expensive for the portions) modern sushi place? Let me keep it simple… Attitude is pretentious. Food(which I care about) is average. Yes it looks cool(some other reviewer even said this… same feeling as I got) but folks trust me… as a super food snob, it does not deliver. Our party(7) tried almost every dish in the place(I expensed it woohoo!) and let me tell you, it is an illusion of awesomeness. Average at best quality of the ingredients, flavors did not make sense, textures all wrong, temps all wrong. Yeah… feels like a marketing thing honestly. Will you hate it or get sick from the food? Nope. But will you get what you are looking for… based on if you are looking for expensive, creative, chef-explosion sushi… no. Not even close. Well. except for the expensive part. I suggest in Atlanta maybe you go get steak.

I work in the building and eat at Tomo often. The food is consistent and it’s a great place to have a sit down lunch in a timely fashion without feeling rushed. However, I had a friend meet me for lunch today and she has been dying to try Tomo. We met, along with her one year old(and well behaved) son. The hostess gave us a booth, though when we asked for a high chair, the hostess gave us an attitude and said they only have booster chairs. When we pushed back that he is one and won’t stay in a booster, her response was, «we aren’t a child-friendly restaurant.» She was extremely rude and unaccommodating, and when we decided to take our business elsewhere, they didn’t even seem to care. As a loyal customer to Tomo, I’m extremely disappointed in how my friend and our party was treated.

I went to Tomo because Sushi House Hayakawa is closed for renovations at the moment. Tomo’s food pictures looked great on Unilocal and got very good reviews. I found it strange that there are 4 – 5 sushi chefs but you are not allowed to order directly from them while sitting at the sushi bar. A waitress takes your order and gives it to a sushi chef. I started with Live Scallop sashimi. It was beautifully presented but bland and the portion consisted of 1 scallop sliced into about 6 thin pieces for for $ 14. I followed that with a Monk Fish Liver terrine. Also beautifully presented but tiny and bland except for the bile flavored jelly that surrounded it. Uni from Japan was so so. Eel was cold. Salmon Eggs were ordinary. None of the sea weed on any of the sushi I had was crisp and delicate. The Live Lobster sushi which I had never had was very good. Sweet and tender. Bottom line Tomo is mediocre and overpriced but in a perfect location to serve a certain target market. If you want exquisite sushi that is inventive, flavorful, generously portioned and beyond fresh handed directly to you by an appreciative sushi master chef wait until Sushi House Hayakawa reopens.

I used to frequent Tomo for lunch. It’s a great deal for $ 10 to $ 15. A great intro to try the place. This evening I had the best sushi dinner. Ask Cliff the manager to put the menu together. We sampled a lot of different fish and everyone of the dishes were perfect First time ever, there were no rolls or your typical sushi menu items. I could hardly remember exactly everything, but I will give it try. Kampachi Serrano Sunomono Carp Snapper Blue fin Black Cod Lamb chop This place rocks. Great service. Easy valet. Food and service off the chart. Like I mentioned, the general manager was so helpful in organizing a perfect meal.

Umi is great. One of the best sushi restaurants I’ve ever been to. Thought it was the best in Atlanta for sure, until I found Tomo. Tomo is better than Umi. Hell, it’s better than Soto’s. Our waitress, Mai, was at Soto’s for 7 years, I think, and she helped us have a splendid experience. We started off with some delicious deep water oysters. Expensive as hell($ 20 for 5 I think) but a great way to start. A slightly more affordable delicacies we tried and highly recommend was the Kampachi Serrano. Kampachi is sometimes referred to as baby yellowtail, although its a different and much smaller fish. Tastes like yellowtail some and this is a unique take on that standard yellowtail with peppers and ponzu found elsewhere. Once a month they fly in a fairly big(180 lbs or so) Tuna from Japan. They do a special carving demonstration where you can order whatever part of the tuna you want as they carve it up. They also serve real Wagyu beef including a special dry aged version. For desert we really liked the warm bread pudding but the little $ 2 chocolate cubes are a must have as well. A little cold like an ice cream, but not really ice cream. Just one of the most delicious little chocolate bites in the world. My office is only a few minutes away so I can’t wait to start trying out this place for lunch.

The fish is SO fresh and there is an excellent variety(straight from Japan). If I had a bigger wallet I would be a regular. I’m still drooling over the Japanese snapper, toro and chutoro! A must go for sushi lovers.

Dinner out with my dinner club. Tomo is located in the same building as the Ritz Carlton Residences. Take Peachtree Dunwoody Rd to access parking. Its at the top of the ramp and on the right. Complimentary valet parking is available at both lunch and dinner. They will also validate if you self park. I didn’t order any drinks, but my pals did and they looked great. I ordered the tulip wings, California roll, and vegetable roll. The tulip wings were odd in shape, which is why they get the name, I guess. They were rather bland, but the garlicky dipping sauce was pretty good. The rolls we were well executed and not tough at all. The vegetable roll was on the larger side and kinda fell apart as I picked them up. But seeing how they were composed, it makes sense that it would. The smaller pieces I could eat in one bite, the bigger ones I could not. Luckily, you can easily break them apart with your teeth. The California roll stuff together very well. Our server was good, but didn’t seem to have the best grip on what was in certain items. Water was refreshed on a regular basis. We never felt ignored nor were were overwhelmed with attention. Service was very quick. We wrapped up in about an hour. We stayed around a while to chat and that was no issue. We didn’t feel rushed to get out. Overall, good dinner. At a very good price point for sushi. Multiple folks commented on how affordable it was when they opened their bills. Worth a visit. Note: For parties over 6, they cannot split checks.

Currently living about 1.5 hrs from this restaurant, we decided to make a special trip here for a birthday girl’s celebration. We tried making reservations in advance, as it was a Friday evening… But my date tells me someone on the other end said they don’t take reservations. When we got there… They said we needed reservations! I’m inclined to believe my date, but regardless… They seated us in under 5 minutes and the manager even gave us his business card for next time we want to make a visit. Our server was Fairy… He was excellent making great suggestions! They were out of a few things … Like the oysters and something else I can’t recall, but our dining experience was A+ and the food was delicious! If you like ankimo, I would highly recommend their ankimo appetizer! HIGHLYYYY… :)) Amazing sushi and fantastic drinks as well. I would definitely be a regular if it weren’t so far away.

I’d heard about this place, and was glad to finally pay them a visit. In short, I found the food to be good. The lunch crowd tends to move quickly, and I think that speed may cause a decrease in some quality. But the food I had was tasty and fresh, even if the portions seemed both small and expensive. The salad I had seemed like the salad I would get at any Japanese restaurant. It was good, but there was nothing really outstanding about it. I will say the same about my shrimp tempura roll and the spicy salmon roll. Good, but not really noteworthy.
Celebrated my birthday here! I’ve had this place bookmarked for a while and I’m glad we saved our first visit for a special occasion. First off, prices will be more expensive here! If you’re looking to stuff your face with sushi, I’d suggest going somewhere else. However, if you’re looking for a unique culinary experience, this place is a must! Fresh variety of fish that you can’t get anywhere else in Atlanta. AND! They have Anchor Steam on tap! Woot woot! On our visit, we ordered the Tuna Tartare, Kampachi Serrano, Chef’s Choice Sashimi entrée, Squid Ink Roll, and Lobster Roll. All items were great! Since it was my birthday, the waiter comp’ed us on an order of Japanese Snapper nigiri. Definitely try that if you can, great flavor and remember to eat it without any soy sauce! For dessert, we tried the Green Tea Mil Crêpe with some hot green tea :) In total, my husband and I spent a little over $ 110(not including tip). We’ll definitely be back on another special occasion to try their other specialties! Overall great experience and highly recommend!

Super fresh, high quality sashimi. From the melt in your mouth Kenpachi Serrano to the fluffy, warm bread pudding, I loved about ever single item I tried at Tomo. Absolutely delicious. Located in Buckhead, just north of Phipps Plaza, in the same building as the Ritz Carlton Residences, Tomo offers complimentary valet parking for both lunch and dinner. There’s also a parking garage nearby. We forgot to ask if they would validate the ticket so we paid $ 4 for parking. So I’m not sure if they do offer that service or not, but I would definitely try to ask. That or you can walk to it if you’re around the area. Buckhead is beautiful to walk around at, especially at night. The interior is beautifully decorated — definitely has a more modern, sophisticated ambience. We had a reservation for six people and got seated right away upon arriving. We were greeted by our server and shortly after, the manager stopped by to greet our table as well. We told him it was our first time dining here and he patiently went over the menu with us and explained some of popular items they offer. He was comedic and polite. So let the feasting begin! There were so many items on the menu we wanted to try. We managed to try a sashimi dish that was imported straight from Japan. On the menu, you’ll find items that have the Tomo logo by their names are the ones that they get straight from Japan. Here are the items we got: –House Sake(Koji): Served hot, produced from superior quality, highly milled sake rice. higher acidity that pairs well with sushi. I’m not a huge hot sake drinker ever since I discovered Nigori but this sake was really good and really smooth. –Kenpachi Serrano: 6 slices of kampachi sashimi with garlic, thinly sliced serrano pepper, and yuzu soy sauce. One word: amazing. This was probably my favorite thing I tried all night. I don’t think I’ve ever tasted anything quite like it. The combination of the garlic with the peppers soaking in the yuzu soy sauce was simply amazing. If you appreciate really good sashimi, I highly recommend this item. –Tuna Tartar: Served with yama-imo(japanese sticky yam), scallions, pink peppercorn, shiso, crushed pistachios, and a balsamic glaze. This was also very good. Tuna was fresh and you could get a different taste each time depending on how much tuna you got with the other garnishes on there such as the crushed pistachios or the pink peppercorn. –Tomo Salmon: Salmon rolled in cucumber with shiso, wakame, scallions, and sesame with ginger-garlic ponzu. Also really good. I really loved the wakame(seaweed) that was garnished at the bottom with the ginger-garlic ponzu sauce. A little sour but good. –Tuna Avocado Salad: Seared tuna & albacore and avocado with sesame onion dressing. That dressing was the best! If they sold it in the stores, I’d definitely go buy it. –Tempura Entrée: Six shrimp and five vegetables. I think this was my least favorite item. Simply because it’s tempura. I don’t think you can really mess that up so much so it wasn’t really special to me, but still good. –Scottish Salmon: 8 oz sushi grade Scottish salmon with wild mushroom teriyaki demi-glacé. Salmon was cooked perfectly — really savory. I really loved the mushroom teriyaki sauce that it game with. –Jumbo Soft Shell Crab Roll: Came with cucumber, avocado, and flying fish egg sauce. Not sure what this flying fish egg sauce is but it was good with the roll. –Warm Bread Pudding: With vanilla ice cream and whip cream. It was also decorated with this honey or candy web on top that looked pretty good. Really good bread pudding — really fluffy and airy. There were three more items that were ordered by my other friends that I didn’t get to try because I was probably too full at the time. We all also ordered a bowl of rice that helped fill us up as well. Overall, it was a great night. Amazing food and great service. Not going to sugarcoat it, but expect to pay a lot. Aside from a few items that I believe were priced unfairly(such as the Tempura Entrée), you have to remember that you’re paying for quality over quantity here and in my opinion, I think they provided really good quality food. It’s not a place I would dine at every day, but for special occasions: absolutely. I also hear their lunch menu is reasonable so I’m definitely going to give that a go sometime soon. I’m really glad my friend Robin suggested we go here. We were celebrating one of our other friend’s new job opportunity in a new state so we were both sad that she was leaving and happy she gets this new chance. Tomo did a fantastic job making this night a great way to celebrate her departure with good food, good company, and sake.

Originally I was going to f&b, but since my friend was only in the mood for cocktails I opted for here for a sushi fix. I only ordered one roll because the server gave all sorts of eye rolls when we placed our order. The place was empty, she had a few hiccups in the service and it killed my appetite. The squid was not a great selection, I really just didn’t catch the opportunity to experience what seems so many others had. I was in & out in less than 20 mins, friend didn’t even care to finish her wine because environment felt uninviting.

This place is amazing. Parking is also complimentary. From food to ambience to the excellent customer service — this place screams 5 stars. Food portions were very tiny but the ingredients are very fresh! Freshest yellowfin ive had — kampachi serrano. The blend of all the flavors work really well together. Probably one of the best type of sashimi ive had! Eat this slowly to really taste and enjoy the flavors. I also ordered the spicy scallop sushi. The spicy mayo that comes with it is the bomb dot com. Pairs very well with it especially with the avocado. Also got the shrimp tempura and veggie tempura. Ended the night with the coconut dessert. Must get! Left the place still hungry, but the meal was worth it and delicious.

Wow, I would say that this place has the best sushi in Atlanta! I went with one of my friend’s families and was lucky enough to sit at the chef’s table, being personally served nigiri by Chef Tomo himself! Chef Tomo is such a friendly guy, and although eh was very busy, he drove in from Duluth to serve us. We were served a variety of fish, and my favorite was definitely the Otoro. The sake we got was also delicious! Try the Hitachino Nipponia beer as well :) If you are going for value, the Spicy Salmon Roll is very tasty.

I came here with my husband for lunch after a quick shopping trip at lenox. This place is really nice. Staff is very friendly. I ordered soba which was the bomb. My husband ordered sushi and sashimi platter. Salmon was very fresh. All ingredients including their salads are very fresh. I would definitely come here again. Oh and seaweed salad was really good too :)

Jennifer greeted me at the bar and I had a chance to look over the menu before deciding what to drink. Everything looks pretty fabulous and my mouth started to water before I had a chance to even contemplate what exactly I’d like to drink. Bartenders curse – I told John(also at the bar) and admitted I’m more of a vodka tonic/soda kinda gal and he whipped up a delicious, craft, ketel one cocktail with cucumber. Light, refreshing, a bit tart and far from sweet – just how I like it! I decided to order the Japanese Snapper nigiri style by recommendation from John. And an order of Chutoro sashimi style. Both came with two pieces. The Chutoro was buttery and fatty, not quite like real toro and I totally preferred it. We ordered additional Japanese Snapper at the table after leaving the bar. It is fabulous. The nigiri was served with Japanese mint and it complimented the fish incredibly well. Next up, we tried a ton of other items. Yellowtail Scallion Roll-amazing, light. Salmon Skin Roll– could’ve done without, the salmon skin flavor and crunch was masked by veggies. Beef Tataki– a highlight! Minced scallion, and Japanese mint is placed on top and the yuzu sauce the beef was swimming in was absolutely fabulous. Yellowtail Jalapeño– I forgot the true name – Kamachi maybe? Anyway it was baby yellowtail sliced thin with slivers of jalapeño on top. Delicious. Very well presented. Kimmidei– a buttery white fish, also very good. Came out nigiri style. Chicken Wings– served 3 at a time, brown and trimmed down to chicken lollipops, the flavor was bursting from the crisp skin and sauce served with them was amazing. However, the crisp skin aside, the meat was scarce and it was more of a fat and tendon and skin kinda thing. Maybe I got a chunky one… but flavor was on point. Snow Crab Jalapeño– cucumber wrapped around snow crab with a sliver of jalapeño. Placed in a fluffy green purée of what I’m guessing is jalapeño and avocado if I had to guess. A bit of a guacamole vibe for me but my companions loved it and was lapping their rolls back and forth down the long plate to get more of the sauce. Uni– three peices of Uni came out and we decided to try it! I’ve had Uni fresh and it’s quote good, a bit oily and delicious. This was alright. It seemed to melt in my mouth but the hunk of rice wrapped in seaweed became a large blob in my mouth and the longer I had to chew the less appealing it became, pass on this one next time. I don’t recall what else we might have had but I enjoyed dinner immensely, a couple 4 – 5 vodka tonics, and wonderful company! I can’t wait to come back!
