My first experience here was watching an episode of Diners, Drive ins and Dives on the Food Network. Wow, the Lamb Sliders sure looked good! I finally had reason to visit Jacksonville, and took the 10 miles trip east of town to Atlantic Beach. I never came back to Jacksonville without stopper here! Now that I live in Jacksonville, I visit often for great food, great service, and staff and patrons that are just plain nice! This authentic Irish Pub is owned and operated by 4 sisters from Ireland. This pub has also been recently renovated and looks just amazing. Nestled within a non-descriptive strip mall, be ready to be welcomed and I promise that you will be as hooked as I am. I am single so I always sit at the bar. I am always greeted with a smile and hand shake and know the bartenders name, and they know mine! The entire staff is very friendly and very down to earth. The food is once again amazing, I can’t advise what to have first, but the Guinness stew and lamb sliders are amazing, and Guy Fieri’s Favorites. It will not take long to understand why this Irish Pub was featured on Triple D. There are plenty of wide screen TV’s in the bar area and on Sunday, Football fans are present, but please do not think of Culhanes as a sports bar. So, when in the Jacksonville Fl area, Stop by Culhanes. Enjoy a pint and have an enjoyable experience and a great meal.

Great experience and great food as always! In particular, our server, Mary R. was just fabulous! She was super quick and had a great handle on and suggestions from both the menu and the bar. Upon finding out that we were out celebrating that evening, she even went so far as to pop a celebratory decoration on our table, making our experience that much more memorable! We will definitely be back soon!

Come here only after 10 pm when the price of beer is reduced. Very friendly crowd and they like to sing so only expect to do 2 or 3 songs all night. Moderate song list as they’re more old-fashioned. Took me a while to find this place as my $ 2000GPS in my Honda claimed it was on the Southside of street! Smoking allowed outside only.

I am new to the Beach neighborhood and now have been to Culhanes twice in the last week. The atmosphere is welcoming and staff professional yet friendly. I have enjoyed everything, yes some more than others but enjoyed it all. The fish pie was delicious and I was looking for more bread so as not to leave a drop. Salmon was perfectly cooked and the Corn Beef and Cabbage I ordered to take home was half gone by the time I left. Having worked in the restaurant world for years I appreciated the attention to detail on so many levels and the genuine care for the guest experience. I highly recommend stopping in have a cold pint of Harp or Guiness, watch some sports but more importantly meet some great people around you. Looking forward to going back soon — Slainte.

What a treat! I had the Shepard’s Pie which is probably one of the BEST I have ever had. It has a sweeter, brown sugar flavor which was superb! My husband had the Beef Stew and he thought it was very good! We had Nick as our server at the bar! Perfect service! Great little place! We will be seeing you soon!

I have been meaning to go to Culhanes for a while and finally got around to it. I was expecting a lot based on the reviews. We started out with the reuben egg rolls. The filling was pretty good, but the wrap was heavy and dripping with grease. It had a decent mustard dipping sauce that was the highlight of the dish. My wife got the fish and chips. The menu calls it the best fish and chips in Jacksonville, but I would say they’re maybe just the best fish and chips in that shopping center. Maybe. Heavy and greasy. Spotting a trend here. My son got the beef stew. He’s a teenager with a healthy appetite, but he ate only about five bites and declared that to be quite enough. I got the lamb sliders. The menu said they would cook them medium and above, but the waitress said they’d make them medium rare. They came out medium well. They were decent, not great, but ok. The biggest disappointment was how the restaurant handled the uneaten $ 15 meal. I eat in restaurants about 20 times a month, and pretty much any restaurant would have taken it off the bill. The manager said it was their policy to offer tastes of the stew when someone ordered it, so clearly they have issues with people not liking it. Our waitress never gave us that option. They«generously» gave us a $ 5 discount. Too little too late. We won’t be back.

If you’re up for a raucous, lively, LOUD evening, this is a great place. Credit to the servers for being very knowlegable about the many beer choices, plus they were attentive and conscientious. As a choice for a pleasant dining experience for two, not so much. While not exactly fuddy-duddies, the atmosphere was just too loud to enjoy dinner. We had to shout across a very small table to communicate. What made it even worse was they had a trivia game going on at the time, and the volume of the guys microphone was near unbearable. The food was bland, soggy in texture, and overpriced. If your out for a fun night of partying, it’s fine, but not a good dinner venue.

I have been here a time before and had a couple of appetizers. Went Saturday night with my wife, son and his girlfriend and enjoyed the Bangers and Mash. The sausages were very good and the mashed potatoes and gravy were stellar. My son had a cup of the creamy tomato soup and my wife had the Reuben egg rolls. We all shared some blueberry pie and ice cream. Everything was very good and I will try not to wait an entire year before going back. The service was outstanding. I wish I could remember our waitress’s name, but she was great. I really like the layout and décor of the restaurant and pub. Will definitely be coming back to sample some great authentic Irish fare.

We were bicycling at the beach and decided to seek out a place to grab a cold beer. We stumbled on Culhanes and locked up our bikes in the nearby bike racks. Covered seating on the front porch if you prefer sitting outside. We decided to grab a seat inside and beat the heat. The place was pretty packed on one side with a bunch of soccer fans dressed in their team jerseys and colors yelling chants and cheering on their teams. We grabbed a seat away from them for a little quieter setting. We put in a drink order and quickly learned they were out of Coors light in the bottle so they offered up Coors on tap. We decided to split a pitcher since there was some sort of special and we had 3 people drinking the same thing. Menu chocked full of the usual Irish food like fish n chips or Sheppard’s Pie, not to mention plenty of other stuff like burgers and appetizers. I wasn’t hungry but my brother and his girlfriend shared a fish and chips which they quickly devoured. Another buddy ordered potato skins and he put a pretty good dent in them. I would definitely go back to try the Sheppard’s Pie. The reason for the 3 stars was the service was a little slow as our waitress seemed overwhelmed with too many tables and then we had a «helper» stop by periodically but she wasn’t much of a help and would just message stuff to our waitress.

The service was friendly and quick. The food was average at best. The Dingle fish pie was creamy but very fishy, I like seafood but this was linger on your breath fishy. My husband had the beef stew and it was a good size portion but needed lots of salt to make it flavorful. I was very excited to visit this place based on TV food maps and Unilocal reviews but left on the disappointed side.

The server was great but the food is average. I have had better beef stew at home. Good size portion but it just wasn’t good. It is also quite expensive for a bowl of stew. All the plates were expensive. Just another pub that got some popularity from food network or what not but serves at best mediocre food. Nice servers but that’s it.

3rd time back. Service was awesome again. Andrea was very helpful and was on point with our drinks and food. Apps Tried the scotch egg which was fantastic. Nanas sausage rolls which were amazing as well. Entrée Had the corned beef and cabbage(wifes fav) Shepards pie for me. Now I am very particular with my shepards pie, normally if its not made with lamb I don’t eat it. Well gave it a shot tonight and was very pleased with what I recieved. The sweetness complimented the beef well. Only wish would have remembered to add irish cheddar to it. Dessert. The bread pudding omg to die for. Culhaine sisters you have my buisness for irish at home.

Oh man them biscuits and gravy. With the bangers. And the bacon. And the(homemade) corned beef and hash. The food at brunch is powerful good. POWERFUL good. Good bloody mary too if Meghan is slingin’ the booze. Only gig on this place is the stupid Georgia Bulldogs crap on the walls. They need to get real and put some Notre Dame Fighting Irish stuff up. Not just because they’re an Irish Pub and that would MAKESENSE but because Georgia Bulldogs are wack and Notre Dame is better than Zebra Cakes.(I really love Zebra Cakes) Powerful good brunch. Get some.

I stopped here with the family, after hearing about it on the Food Network show«Diners Drive-Ins and Dives.» We had a wide variety of things from their menu. I myself had their Guinness Beef Stew, and shared a Shepherds Pie. We had a party of like 10, so I got a good taste of their menu, and overall I’d say this place is pretty good, but nothing amazing. Overall its what I’d of expected of an Irish Pub and Restaurant, with a bit more options than usual, and dependable food. I’d recommend this place, but I wouldn’t go out of my way for it.

Amazing food and out of this world service! You’re always greeted with a smile when you walk in… It’s like an extended family! Favorite dish? Shrimp and Grits!!! The seafood is always fresh and that cheddar grit cake, just a wow!!! Their pub area is stocked with TVs so it’s perfect for game days! All in all, best Irish pub on the First Coast!

I know this place is an Irish Pub, and their burgers are not what they are known for, but it was a burger I ordered. I can’t say I was all that impressed with it. It was just an average burger, and most definitely was not worth $ 10. Five Guys makes a better, juicier burger with a cheaper price tag. I didn’t like the fact I was charged $ 1.00 to get mashed potatoes instead of the steak fries which came with the burger. This made no sense to me because on the«sides» menu, steak fries are $ 3 and mashed potatoes are $ 3. Same price, so why the up-charge? Even though the up-charge was ridiculous, I am glad I went with the mashed potatoes because they are some of the best I have had. The real show-stopper here is their warm bread pudding with ice cream. Bread pudding is one of my favourite desserts, and I have tried it all over Jacksonville. No one even comes close to getting bread pudding as right as Culhanes! It’s truly the stuff one can dream about! If you don’t have room for dessert after your meal, I suggest you get an order togo sans the ice cream. You won’t regret it! Service here is great. Friendly and attentive. I don’t cross the ditch all too often, so this isn’t a regular place for me. In the future when I’m at the beach, this won’t be a place I’ll personally consider for dinner, but I will definitely be back for dessert. It’s also a great place for some late night drinks with friends.

Fries with Curry Sauce. Do you know how much I love fries with curry sauce? Well Culhane’s predicted how just much I love fries with curry sauce by making the most wonderfully thick-cut steak fries and an excellent accompanying curry sauce to dip them in. Don’t get me wrong America, there’s a time and a place for those skinny anorexic carb sticks you call French Fries, however when there’s dipping to be done there’s more satisfaction to be had from a plate of steak fries than anything else. Culhane’s is a softly lit pub divided into two sections: one side offering a full bar, seating and an area for live music and the other side offering more booths and diner seating, along with seating outside. The have a great range of imported beers, whiskeys, wines and other alcoholic tipples and have a fantastic menu offering a mix of Irish, British and American food favourites, including(Starters) Reuben Egg Rolls, Irish Craic Nachos, Corned Beef & Cheddar Dip, Salads and Soups,(Entrées) Burgers, Fish Tacos, Guinness Ribs, Shrimp Grits, Shepherds Pie, Guiness Beef Stew, Meatloaf Dinner and Kearney’s My only complaint is their Scotch Eggs. My Mum makes Scotch Eggs, I grew up with Scotch Eggs: a baseball sized ball of pork meat, mixed with herbs & seasoning, wrapped around a boiled egg. The thing is big enough to be a meal in itself. So when I saw Scotch Eggs on the Appetizer menu, I bullied The Hublet into ordering. The thing was about the size of a golf ball! A little pricey for its size at $ 9, but admittedly delicious. Worth trying at least once. During our various visits to Culhane’s, we’ve eaten the following: Reuben Egg Rolls: fantastic, great balance of everything inside a perfectly crispy wonton. Dirty Slapper Burger: everything you could want. Chips with curry sauce: did I mention that I love their chips with curry sauce? Shepherds Pie: tasty, savoury and almost surprisingly sweet sauce that still works very well. Bangers & Mash: this place does great mashed potatoes and their sausages are delicious. Kyle’s Fish & Chips: Culhane’s have a fantastic light & crispy batter to their fish and this is a great portion size. Culhane’s offers both a great bar with local & imported drinks and a varied, quality menu and manages to be a good venue choice for the whole rainbow spectrum of nights out, from romantic dinners to taking the kids somewhere to live music and so on.

Unlike most of Jacksonville I did not initially learn about Culhane’s from Guy Fierij; I learned when I had the pleasure to attend CM Allie’s first Elite Event. Finally had a chance to make it back with my husband when we were on an unofficial bar crawl through the beaches. The restaurant side wasn’t open yet, but we found ourselves a place at the high-tops in the bar. Ordered myself a Snakebite and perused the menu for some snacks. Wasn’t too hungry but needed a little something. I decided to go with the Guinness beef sliders(which I had tasted at the OYE). They were every bit delicious as I remember. The meat was tender and juicy, the jalapeños packed the right amount of heat, the sliders were the perfect size. My husband ordered the Reuben egg rolls & the lamb sliders. I’m not a fan of the traditional reuben sandwich, but I tasted this and it was good. To end the night on a sweet note, I ordered a piece of the Red Velvet cake(desserts are all from Cinotti’s). While the flavor was good, the slice I had was a little dry — like it hadn’t been cut/served in a couple days. I don’t blame the restaurant for that at all, it just wasn’t what I had hoped for. Definitely will be adding Culhane’s to my regular rotation of places to hang out at the beach.
