HORRIBLECUSTOMERSERWICE!!! Note I did not actually stay at the Rodeway Inn, but just paid $ 5 to use their parking lot. When I arrived, there was nobody at the booth, so I had to drive over to the office and obtain a pass from the man at the desk. A few hours later, I wanted to go to lunch, and I was explicitly conscious of the fact that the lot might not allow in/out, so I checked the pass, which contained A LOT of details and disclaimers(about not being responsible, etc), but nothing prohibiting in-and-out. So I went to lunch, and when I returned, there was a man at the booth, and he wanted to charge me another $ 5. He pointed to a small black and white sign on the wall of the booth, and I explained that I had bought my pass at the office, and the man there had not said anything. He told me to go ask at the office. Well, the man at the office showed zero sympathy or understanding whatsoever. He insisted that the sign was posted over by the booth, even though that’s not where I got my pass. I said that the information about in-out should have been on the pass, and that it was not fair to customers. I explained that I was not going to pay another $ 5, and that if they wanted me to return to park there the next two days, they should let me stay the remainder of the afternoon for free. Well, the man seemed offended, and he turned around and said that THEYDIDNOTWANTMEAS A CUSTOMER! So instead of taking the correct customer serwice approach of agreeing that the pass should contain all necessary information, his attitude was«we don’t want you anymore». Now, this was just about parking, but imagine if you actually stayed in a room there and had a problem – would you want to deal with an owner/manager like this? STAYAWAY!

I got this room free from hotel points I had accumulated. I had checked it out online and knew what I was getting into, but it was free and close to where I had to be. It looks like a total dump from the outside, but the room was really clean. Old, but clean. The only really bad thing about the room was that the bed was like a plank of wood. The owner(?) was really nice. You only get 1 parking spot with the room, but he let my friend have one too for $ 5 for 24 hours. In fact, all the staff were really friendly. Don’t misunderstand, this is not a 5 star resort by ANYMEANS, but like I said it was free, close to where I needed to be, and clean.

So for my husband’s birthday in January 2007, I got us a hotel room in AC for one night, to take a lil one-day getaway just for us. So we get there and go to check in to our little cheap room at the Rodeway Inn on N. Carolina Ave. DONOTEVERSTAYHERE. I booked online through Orbitz and did a lil research to see if it was worth it for such a cheap price. Well, we get there, and our room wasn’t ready, so we decide to wander around the Boardwalk for a few hours, then go to dinner. After dinner, we go to bed finally at about 1:30… well, we tried to anyway. the bed, though king-sized, was so uncomfortable my husband barely slept. The comforter was so thin, it was basically a glorified puffy sheet. It was awful. So just as we’re finally falling asleep around 5am, 3 guys come into the room next door. They proceed to shout and carry on for a good hour– we figure, it’s 6am– they’ll settle down soon enough. They do. Then 30 minutes later, we hear them again, this time with two female voices. The female voice woke me up first, and I was very confused– it was very demanding ordering people to sit in certain spots, and at first I thought it was a cop. Oh no. No no no. Not a cop ATALL. B/c then she goes, «it’s $ 100 for head, and $ 150 if you want anything more.» Holy god, there were HOOKERSNEXTDOOR. So my husband and I lie there, thinking, whatever, we can sleep through this. Well, one of the guys decides that their prices are a bit too steep, and ACTUALLYSTARTSHAGGLINGWITHTHEHOOKERS. We debate whether or not to call the hotel office or the police, and then realize that if we can hear every word in their room, they’ll be able to hear every word in OUR room. So now we’re like, ok, we need to get the fuck outta here. We pack as quickly as possible, and are just getting ready to walk out the door when the 3 guys leave their room and stand in front of our door & window, arguing. Great. No escape route. My husband comes to the following conclusion– 3 guys coming back from a long night of partying/gambling, and the one guy wants to impress his friends by getting them some hookers and then realizing they’re a bit more pricey than he thought and not wanting to pay. He was so right. So now the three guys are arguing outside our door, while the two hookers start screaming at each other. «$ 100 for three guys? WTF were you thinking? $ 100? $ 100?! You’re on your own from now on you stupid b — -.» They’re yelling so loud, we’re convinced they’re going to come to blows. They don’t, and then come outside trying to find out whether or not they were getting any action. It seemed like the guys decided they didn’t want their services after all, and then the hookers demanded $ 100 each for their wasted time.(Mind you, this whole encounter has hit the 45 minute mark.) The guys start raising a fuss, and then the one guy shouts, «WTF do you think would happen to me if I shorted my dealer a kilo?» Jesus– the guys are drug dealers. WONDERFUL. They all finally go back into the room, and we practically RUN out of our room and down to the office. We explain to the little Indian man that we’re checking out, and we would like a refund. We explain the situation, from the beds to the hookers & crack dealer in the room next door, and he’s like, «Well, i can’t give you a refund. My general manager has to do that. he’ll be here tomorrow after 9am.» I’m livid at this point, but b/c I paid online through orbitz and they didn’t swipe my card on the property, I couldn’t get an instant refund. So then I ask little Indian man Neil(that was his name): «So, there’s a crime in progress happening on your property. Would you like me to call the police or will you be taking care of this?» «MY property?» he retorts. «Fine, the property under your management and watch right now. Yeah, there’s a crime happening in room 201. Would you like to call the police or shall I?» I reply. «Crime in progress?» he queries. Firmly I reply, «Yes, a crime in progress. There are two prostitutes selling sex to three drug dealers. Last time I checked, that’s a crime.» He then picks up the phone ANDCALLSTHEROOM. «I want you all out of here, get out of the room, you cannot stay here anymore.» We hadn’t even left the office and we freaked. We literally RAN to the car, threw our bags in the backseat, and I pulled a k-turn and peeled out of the parking lot, tires screeching and bottoming out really bad on the curb. We were generally concerned for our safety. I never got the refund, despite a BBB follow up, letters to Rodeway Inn, and pointless phone calls to their General Manager. Needless to stay, I won’t be staying there EVER again.
