Speaking as a confirmed dessert hound, I think The Flaky Tart in Atlantic Highlands is one absolutely phenomenal bakery. I say that after living in both the San Francisco Bay Area & New York City and eating at the best bakeries I could find there. I rate The Flaky Rate right at the very top, not only because their quality is so good but also because of the uniqueness and creativity of their menu. And the fact that the prices are about half of what you find in NYC doesn’t hurt either! More everything!

The Texas A&M Aggie Ring and I were in the Atlantic Highlands of New Jersey last Saturday and stopped into an incredible bakery named«The Flaky Tart.» Aggie Ring took charge and had me order something called a «Monkey Muffin.» The«Monkey Muffin» was made from crispy croissant dough, cream cheese, brown sugar, cinnamon, and pecans. It was delicious! Aggie Ring said, «We’ll be back…» Aggie Ring says, «The road rolls on forever and the party never ends!»

I don’t know what makes me feel more guilty– the unbelievable warm buttery 5000 calorie Ham & Gruyère croissants I always get, the 8 lb slice of Frittata that is really enough for 3 people or the 20 $ I drop every time I go Its so funny I literally drive down the road early mornings saying to myself” I hope they’re not open” «I hope they’re not open»

Stopped here after reading reviews following a puppet show at Paper Moon. Croissants were light and flaky, raspberry bar was delicious and the peanut butter cookies were by far the best I have had in my life. Luckily I have a coconut cake and other goodies to still try — may have to drive out of my way for the cookies again!

Best blueberry muffins ever! Fresh plump blueberries generously added to a delicious, moist muffin with extra large sugary top. My grandson and I can’t start our weekend without one. You can call ahead and place an order so your not sold out

A very cute café that I would drive past for years without knowing what I’m missing out on. On my way to the shore, I was told by a friend that this is the best bakery in NJ/NY area. The competition is heavy, but I was surprised how clean and organized the café and sweets were. Everything looked so delicious, I chose a plain croissant and a mini carrot cake with some coffee. The pastries have such real flavor and are so fresh, I’ll be stopping by with my family each time I’m driving down the shore now. The staff is very friendly and helpful, customers tend to forget to appreciate that.

Amazing baked goods and crazy good Mac and cheese. Words can’t describe how much I love the almond croissant ! Too bad it’s a little far from my house and they are not open very late. But then again I would probably be 20lbs heavier if they were…, lol

Easily the best bakery in Monmouth County. Monkey muffin is my go to, but I never have been disappointed here. Just need to get their early.

This bakery is a gem, and one of the best, seriously if not the best in NJ. The coconut cake and carrot cake is like an explosion of amazingness in your mouth. Every thing they make is done right and is so delicious. I can’t recommend this bakery enough!

Sweet mother of pastries, what do we have here? This is my GF’s favorite bakery. And I can understand why. These peeps sell out by 11 am, so get in there and fight the crowd. They open at 8:00 am, but since we had to hit the road early the next morning, they told us that we can swing by any time after 6, and someone will be there. I’ve never had that sort of service before. But my gf also drops like half her paycheck here every time she visits. She likes her dough. I am not really a brownie person, but Flaky’s cheesecake brownie got me believin’. Perfect textured, not too gooy, not too hard. This brownie is not too sweet and packs just the right amount of deliciousness. Check out their monkey cake? bread? muffin? too, I guess that’s what their known for. The dude in front of us spent $ 100 on pastries and it was only 8:15 am.

Came here in a Saturday afternoon, their display case was more than half empty, but still able to pick out what I wanted to try. Ordered: raspberry tart and mini carrot cup cake. OMG!!! BESTRASPBERRYTART I EVERHAD! Must try! The crust was so flaky/crispy and buttery, the cream was light and sweet, and the raspberries were super fresh. The place really lives up to their name“the flaky tart”!!! The mini carrot cake was delicious too, cake was super moist, and cream cheese topping made it perfect! But a little pricy for a bite size cake. Will try to come earlier next time to try their other desserts and MORETARTS!

A friend of ours had come for dinner and brought dessert from here. Everyone went crazy over everything. When I was in the area I stopped here to buy a treat for my family. Being gluten free I myself was not able to try what I purchased for my family, however they had some gluten free options. Gluten free chocolate cake and on another occasion a chocolate macaroon. Both were excellent. The owner said they are trying to do more gluten free products.

I absolutely love this bakery. I had a coworker who came to visit me at my home and brought over a few items for us to enjoy over coffee and chat. Since then, when I want a treat, I drive the 20 – 30 minutes oneway from Cliffwood. They always have a great selection and everything is freshly prepared! I’ve had the croissants, blueberry muffins, brioche(plain and with fruit), bacon and cheddar frittata and a host of other items. One may find The Flaky Tart to be pricey but in my opinion, the prices are in line with any other top notch bakeries — you get what you pay for. I wish the location was bigger to accommodate more seating. Trust me, give them a try and you will not be disappointed!

Best scones around. Get there early as it’s no secret how much this place is loved by locals. Great counter staff always willing to help. Try the ham and gruyère croissant. Might be the bee thing I ever ate in my life.

There’s not much to say that hasn’t been said already by the other reviewers. I lived in Atlantic Highlands for a few months and it was a struggle to not eat at Flakey Tart every day. Everything, and I mean everything, that I’ve tried here has been incredible. Absolutely incredible.

We drove an hour to get here on Sunday, got here at 10:30AM. We found the place is closed. The phone info says they are open from 8 — 1 pm on Sunday. They wasted our precious 2 hours on weekends just to drive back and forth.

I wish I could state something other than the obvious, but man, those tarts and baked goods are ridiculously flaky and buttery. For anyone that has actually had a decent croissant, they will understand how important that is. The Flaky Tart sells real croissants. Anything anyone else sells is really a horrible impostor. Other items they sell are equally as fantastic, varying throughout the day, week and season. Like the raspberry sandbars. I could easily live off of those. Well, maybe with a mini carrot cup cake every once in a while, just to shake things up. (On a side note, I have noticed they update their facebook page frequently with specials, pictures and upcoming baked goods to drool over.)
