We had high hopes for this flea market but ended up feeling like we wasted gas and time getting here. The wait to turn into the parking lot took about 30 minutes. Finding a parking spot was another 15 minutes. Once we got into the market the things for sale were overpriced dollar tree items. Rows and rows of the same stuff. Lots of puppies for sale and some mediocre food. Unless you live very close by and just have time to kill I can’t recommend this flea market.

All kinds of cool stuff and it changes every week. It’s like a treasure hunt. You can find everything from fresh produce to jewelry to military surplus.

Drove 2 hours and disappointingly discovered the flea market is not open on rainy Sundays.

If you like flea markets then you’ll love Mountaintop. Its not exactly on top of the mountain. But it goes from the bottom almost to the top. You will get plenty of exercise here. We’ve been about a dozen times over the years and have only made it all the way through twice. The place is huge. Its only open on sunday but we don’t see that as a problem. In fact we kind of like it. You know that everything a vendor has is out there, they don’t «save» anything for the next day. If you can’t find it at Mountaintop then you don’t need it. Update: Wow. Some things can stay the same for decades and then do a complete turn around. We went to mountaintop this weekend. Its a skeleton of its former self. If you need produce, live chickens or soccer jerseys this is the place.

Pros: Big old time flea market with lots of puppies, funnel cakes and rebel flags for sell. Cons: Only open Sundays. They open at dawn, but best to wait until after 9 am to go to give time for the vendors to open. Conclusion: About once a year we drive 200 miles round trip for the experience. Much fun.
