J&M Transmission

I did not receive work from J&M, so I do not feel safe giving more than 3 stars. I would however like to share my experience.
After having issues with Aamco, 404 East Washington St, North Attleborough, MA 2 760, I took my vehicle to J&M. they came highly recommended by my local community. Joe was friendly on the phone, and in person. I will admit Joe was not as busy as Aamco, and this could account for the relaxation.
Personality wise this place is a go. Joe was patient, and informative.

That’s what my car sounded like last Thursday afternoon (including the flatline). I was heading up a hill then «vrrrr», a high-​pitched whizzy sound from under the hood — aaand I was slipping backwards down the hill! After successfully gliding into a parking space (and scrambling to get hold of my emotions), I called AAA for a tow to AAMCO down the street. When Josh (tow driver for Achin’s…see my post for them!) arrived, I told him where I’d like the car to be taken. He said, «Alright…but I can guarantee that I’ve got a guy who can fix this for under 800 bucks.» My thoughts: «Yeah, ok buddy. Thanks for the suggestion but I JUST moved here, soooo… AAMCO, please.» And to AAMCO we went.
About an hour and a half later (after receiving my AAMCO estimate), Josh was towing my stubborn giant of a car to J&M.
When I called the next morning, I spoke with Joe (the owner of J&M transmission) who was VERY kind and helpfully explained all the details. He said that he had already taken a look at my car and that this problem was common with Mecury and Ford (…great), then he explained why which part broke and why, then how he was going to fix it. The estimate was lower than I had predicted: still about 600 $ for parts and labor because, as it turns out, the torque converter is kind of an important element of the vehicle. My car was ready THE FOLLOWING Monday! One more: Joe actually STAYED LATE so that I could pick my car up after work (I had just started a new job and I couldn’t leave until 5pm).
I hope to never ever EVER have to fix another transmission EVER again… but if I do, and I’m still living in the Attleboro area, you can bet I’m giving my business to J&M.
