Fresno Facility Ordered Shut-Down Over Horrible Conditions Wish-I-Ah Skilled Nursing and Wellness Center, a nursing home in Auberry(Fresno County) was ordered shut-down by the state Department of Public Health after an investigation revealed terrible care and crumbling facilities. Among the worst examples: one resident was transferred to the hospital and died after poor wound care left her septic. A sponge from her wound vacuum dressing had been left in her wound and was growing in her skin; a staff person worked while infectious with nausea and diarrhea and apparently passed it to multiple residents who became sick. Multiple infection control violations were observed; toilets were overflowing; there were cracked, broken, and uneven tiles in the floor of the shower room. They take amazing care of my Dad. They know him by his first name and show great patience when his Alzhiemer’s is really bad. The buildings are very old, but the place always smells and looks clean. They seem to need a bigger budget to take care of everyone, but the staff they hire make all the difference. They are the only reason we have not moved him to a home closer to our home. He is calm and happy there. The grounds are beautiful. Sometimes the phone lines are down, but most of the time I can get through to talk to him on the phone, and they allow him to call us whenever he wants.
