Auburn Hardware has been a fixture for eons [the website says same ownership since 1969 and it has existed for over 100 years!], but I’ve only graced the threshold like once before. J and I went today, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that it’s a gift shop-hardware store hybrid, so that amongst pest control, heavy duty cleaners, and drill bits, you’ll find scented candles and gourmet consumables. We had just come from , The Villager, and Whapsody, so we were all candled-out, but we ended up buying Wickles and Not Yo’ Mama’s hot sauce. I only had minimal interaction with the cashier, but he seemed like a nice guy. This is all good stuff since my last local hardware store experience was less that stellar [cough cough, Five Points Hardware in Birmingham]. Now I can say I’ve purchased hot sauce at a hardware store. Love.
