Friends Forever a Cat Sanctuary

Worst rescue ever!!! I called before driving 45 minutes and the lady failed to mention that if I let the cat outside I’m unqualified to adopt. Even if it’s only outside periodically but lives inside mainly. She said it was an irresponsible thing to do because cats get lost and get hit by cars and I own a 12 year old cat which I let out occasionally so she basically told me I was an irresponsible pet owner. Not to mention when I walked in her and a younger girl where talking crap about a woman who wanted to adopt a kitten and they were going on and on about how this woman should adopt a different cat and they are forcing her to meet with the owner who would also try to talk this woman into adopting an older cat because they felt this different cat was better. If you only keep your cat inside and you don’t care about picking out your own cat because clearly they do it for you then go to this place. They make you feel like you’re a bad pet owner and are extremely judgemental. I tried to get my application back since I literally drove 45 minutes to be shut down in 30 seconds I didn’t even get to see cats but she snatched it away and said that I don’t get it back and she tapped her finger on a disclaimer at the bottom and said it was policy to keep it so now they have all my information

Biggest waist of time! Apparently you cannot adopt if your cat will not be inside only! 100% of the time! The woman I talked to was very rude! This place was a joke!

Friends Forever is one of my favorite rescues. I frequent the center often, it is always clean and the cats are well cared for. I truly appreciate that this rescue thoroughly screens its potential adopters. Friends Forever has taken many in need, stray and abandoned cats/​kittens for me. I rest assured that they will be well cared for and placed in appropriate loving homes. I especially appreciate that adopted cats are to remain indoors, as I know the dangers and repercussions that outdoor cats face. A quality rescue does not adopt to every person that walks through the door. Shirley and her volunteer staff’s knowledge, compassion and dedication to helping cats is inspiring. This is a great rescue to adopt a cuddly, forever kitty from.

I wish those who leave poor reviews could see the other side of the table. FFACS hears WEEKLY the stories of cats and kittens who are attacked or killed by predators, hit by cars, in fights or bitten by infected animals, or runaways because people don’t keep their pets inside. A cat can be so happy and content to be entertained indoors if the owner cares enough. FFACS is the cleanest no kill cat shelter you’ll ever experience. The kitties are well fed, well socialized and well matched to their prospective forever homes. Kudos to the owners and workers who donate their valuable time to this non-​profit. And yes, shame on those who show their ignorance here when they find out how questionable a home they could provide. Their character shines through their words. Blessings on FFACS.

I was completely humiliated today! My family and I were in search of a cat. Doing a little research this looked like a reputable place. Was I ever wrong!
I was turned down because according to their policy… which the owner was not able to provide for me, I wanted a indoor/​outdoor cat. I left crying as well as my five year old son!
I would have provided a cat with a loving home forever, but I don’t get to do that because Shirley was rude, inconsiderate, and basically told me that I was not worthy enough to adopt one of her cats! How dare she!
If you want a pleasant adopting experience, this is not the place.

We had a horrible experience when we went to this rescue. Unfortunately, the truth is some cats are meant to be indoor/​outdoor and even indoor cats have bad experiences. The indoor only mind set is not appropriate in all instances and unfair to many cats as well as many of us animal lovers who want to adopt a cat which needs a loving home. As a person who supports a cat’s right to be an indoor/​outdoor, indoor, or outdoor cat, I unfortunately would not recommend this rescue. I love my animals and provide a very healthy and happy home for them to live. I strongly do not believe I should be shamed or judged so harshly for allowing an animal to experience the outdoors and live a complete life vs. confining them to a miserable life as an indoor only cat.

For those writing negative reviews for not being allowed to adopt– SHAME ON YOU! There is a valid reason for not allowing you to adopt– you want indoor/​outdoor– not going to happen with any responsible rescue group. Rescues want to ensure their cats go to a save & loving home where the cats w/​be kept inside.
And for the person wanting to dump their cat because they’re moving – you can’t expect to have someone clean up your mess because you decide to move & won’t take your cat or dog with you.
Until people accept the full responsibility of properly caring for cats & dogs – animals w/​continue to be abandoned, dumped & worse. That is why responsible rescue groups w/​screen potential adoptions and won’t adopt them out to just anyone who walks in the door.

This is probably the cleanest episode of cat hoarders I’ve ever seen.
I really hate going out of my way to «adopt» an animal in need only to be fucking shut down in front of my three year old daughter.
Never did I think that when I came into this business that I would leave with nothing but a heartbroken child instead of a new family member for her to love.
Apparently indoor/​outdoor is not an option for these idiots although they put it on the form you fill out. God forbid I have an animal that I raise my own way. Apparently the cat nazi wants them all to herself and she can have them. I look forward to bad mouthing this business to everybody I know in the area and hope that you go out of business from feeding all the cats you refuse to give to loving families.

Spoke with Shirley on the phone about a couple of kittens I was interested in and she was super nice. I then came in to the adoption center and another older lady helped me and she was so rude. I filled out an adoption application and she scrutinized the enter thing. Because I already have an adult cat that is indoor/​outdoors she refused to let me adopt a kitten because their kittens have to be indoor only. I have always had indoor/​outdoor cats my whole life and they have always lived long and healthy lives. I can’t believe they would turn away someone who could give one of their cats a happy home because of that! Will never come back! Extremely disappointed!

I would rate ZERO stars if it was possible! This lady is effing nuts! I would not do any sort of business with this place! Run the other way.
We called to see about sending our 2 year old cat here, since we are moving and can not take the cat with us. We immediately got the riot act from her about how we are bad pet owners.
You know nothing about us, or how well we treat our cat. We called you because we don’t want it killed in a shelter.
You told us to lie to a property manager, and keep the cat even though our lease forbids pets.
You told us that the stray dog that attacked our cat in our front yard, was our fault.
You say that cats should never be let out of a house… they are animals!
Since you forced your opinions on us, I will force my opinion on you. You are a deranged, and are providing a disservice to the regional community. You should pack up and move far away. You have the social skills of a first grader, and have no concept of treating human beings with compassion.

I called the ffacs after my son adopted a cat about a month ago. My son has since moved out into a home that doesn’t take pets. In the meantime, his cat has been peeing everywhere causing a disruption in my home with my other cats and two dogs. Feeling frustrated and needing some guidance, I called and left a message. I got a return call from Sheryl (?) who was amazing! She gave me advice on how to proceed. First to the vet because I saw bloody urine the other day, how to clean the smell (Oxy Clean), contact the adoption agency to find out when he was neutered (too soon can cause this), topless litter boxes, etc. She was extremely helpful and I’m sorry I didn’t write her name down to post here. Anyway, THANK YOU for all of your help and concern.

Were it possible to give this place zero stars, I would. The owner of this place is the Cat Nazi. («NO SOUP FOR YOU!!!»)
I agree with other reviews that this woman and more. She acts like:
1. You are imposing on her to ask about her cats.
2. You are in NO WAY good enough to have one of her stray cats
3. She doesn’t REALLY want to find a home for any of them, she just wants financial contributions to support her post-​retirement hobby.
After visiting the traveling cat adoption truck at Incredible Pets, I got a kitten from her. But not before the volunteer said I HAD to speak to the owner to be approved. When I called her she told me to meet her at a coffee shop where she was meeting a friend. Which I thought a little odd but I did. She was odd too but I figured she is overprotective for a reason like maybe she’d had a bad experience. But face it, how many people really go to a cat adoption center unless they LOVE cats?
When I got the cat home he appeared to have ringworm, and personality wise I didn’t think he was what I was looking for. He was EXTREMELY stressed, more than seemed warranted. I called and asked her about it because I had another cat in the house and she went ballistic and blamed me, saying I HAD stressed the cat out so much and that I had CAUSED her cat to lose chunks of hair. Um ya. Right. Within one hour of being at my home. Not saying it was or was not ringworm. Just that the cat was VERY stressed before I EVER met him and if hair loss in chunks = stressed cat, then whatever she is doing is stressing it out. Because he showed up that way.
I wrote her and told her I was upset at how she had treated me when my concern was about the cat. Also her rules CLEARLY STATE if the cat is not a good fit or in good health CALL US FIRST so we can take it back. And that I didn’t appreciate how she treated me when I followed her rules. I felt it was fair to ask about ringworm in the home, and that she may want to know that the foster home this cat came from might have an infestation.
She told me the cat was in a foster home with 17 other cats and yes they all had HAD ringworm but that she was sure it had been dealt with. When I suggested perhaps it had not been she freaked out on me as described above.
Then she told me to bring the cat back and that I was not good enough to adopt any more cats from her, that she would not let me pick out another, that I was not a suitable pet owner.
I currently have two ADORABLE male tabbies, one year old, one which I got at AAARF (which has since gone out of business… so sad) and the other at Auburn SPCA. They are spoiled, happy, safe, well groomed and have great medical care
Stay clear folks. Plenty of other places that will appreciate your efforts to want to give a cat a forever home. This woman treats humans like dirt. It just isn’t worth your time or effort.
Go to PLACER SPCA or any of the other agencies. AUBURN SPCA is super easy to deal with because they are smaller than Roseville.

As a cat owner of good conscience for many decades, I feel I am in a position to understand cats and be a responsible cat guardian. Upon entering this establishment, I encountered the most obnoxious, self-​righteous ninny I have ever had the misfortune of having to deal with. It wasn’t just that she had an opinion that was different from mine, she was judgmental and patronizing in the extreme about the indoor/​outdoor issue. We left with my wife crying. We will not be adopting from them, nor supporting them. A sad result when there are so many cats needing good homes such as we can provide.
