Do I have been here quite a few times. The food is good. I had the turkey burger tonight and it was great. But as far as the fries and the potato chips… they are just way to over seasoned and I’m mean way over board on the seasoning. I’d rather have them with no seasoning on there.

The food is the only reason they get 2 stars. Service was crap. Walked in & was ignored, after standing there waiting for server to seat people who came in after me, 3 different people asked if I’d been helped & only one proceeded to take my order. Then waited 35 minutes for a to go order. Definitely not a «grab & go» place as advertised on their billboard. Better staff would do wonders for this business. I’d skip it if you’re in a hurry. All you’ll get is a fake apology.

9 of us ate there today. Our server, Brett, was efficient and handled all our special requests with a smile.

We were the only people under 60 in this place! My wife ordered a cheeseburger for me and I was shocked to find out it was a $ 16 cheeseburger! On top of that the cheeseburger was dry and bland. By far one of the worst I have ever had at any price point!

Went to Max’s for Brunch, the service was terrible, the servers had no knowledge of the menus items. After an hour and a half of the restaurant being opened they didn’t have any biscuits made, so we skipped on that. We proceeded to ask for complimentary bread, that too wasn’t prepared. There was a major up for GF items. They were out of a lot of menu items.

I was serving as a juror in a case at the Placer County Courthouse. I asked them to put a rush on the order for fish and chips(AMAZING!!!) and I was very impressed with the speed my order came out(5 – 10 minutes). This restaurant is very nicely decorated inside and the price of the food reflects the high quality so I believe it is fair. The fish & chips were actually some of the best I have ever had! The size of the filets were generous and very perfectly cooked(fried). The server also was very polite while I was busy talking on the phone with my wife — she didn’t try to interrupt for anything but just made sure everything I needed was taken care of. When the server brought my meal, she also brought the bill recognizing that I needed to get back to the courthouse on time. She also offered dessert at this time in recognition of the limited time I had to eat. I look forward to trying one of the desserts another day because the food is stellar!!!

I was in a wedding this weekend, and Max’s catered the food for the rehearsal dinner. I didn’t know what we were having until we got there and finding out it was Mexican food made me really excited! It was set up buffet style, and there was a crisp romaine salad with a really yummy creamy dressing, chips and salsa, plenty of chicken and beef to make your own tacos or burritos. Sides of rice and beans, guac and sour cream. The beans were REALLY tasty. They were really flavorful pinto beans, and worked perfectly in my build your own tacos. There was also dessert! A crème brluee cheese cake? Or crème brûlée flan? something lke that, and it was delicious! But my favorite dessert was the tres leches cake with lemon. It was regular tres leches cake with lemon curd in between layers. NOMNOM. It was overall a wonderfully catered meal, and all the food was fresh, tasty and satisfying.

Great food, great service! I would recommend eating here highly! My only issue is that the joint seemed too classy for a dinner, but hard to hold that against the place when they have high quality cuts of meat prepared at a high level in combination with great service.

Finally went to Max’s but was disappointed with the food. It was just a average meal. It could have been do to how loud the bar area was with other guest and, the loud sound of dishes being put in a bus tub sounding like they were breaking next to us. Was so loud we couldn’t enjoy a a conversation between us. By time the meal arrived we were ready to leave. Then the food arrived it was luke warm and not cooked the way we asked. The plate looked beautiful just wish it tasted as good as it looked. The service was outstanding! One of the best places for service that we been too. We may give it one more chance during a lunch period.

I wasn’t feeling great yesterday and am staying at the holiday inn so I decided to go downstairs and give it a try. I ordered the patty melt, it looked great here on Unilocal and the rave reviews definitely encouraged me. Well I have been sick since, and I could only eat half my burger. Two stars for excellent service though.

We went to Max’s last night for a late light dinner. In general the food is decent but not as good as the Bay Area Max’s. Last night our bread was very stale, and the service was just ok. They seem to be under staffed. We had salads and sliders. Both of which were quite good. The place could use a make over, some of the booths have torn seats which looks rather tacky. For some reason the table heights in the booths are very high, it seems like they missed the mark there. Hopefully things will improve here eventually and approach the level of other Max’s locations.

On my way home to the bay area, stopped by Max’s for a relaxed dinner, first time there, Matzoh ball soup was exquisite, lots of chichen and tasty broth, I ordered the chicken sliders but not quite satisfied with the chicken, the waitress took it back I then ordered the Ruben which was yummy, manager Brianne delivered it and made sure all was better, I then get a visit from the dessert lady Nanette who was very friendly and jovial she joked and we chatted about our families, etc… Left the place satisfied and will return in the future.

Service was okay, slow and could be more attentive. Place is clean and bright. Food — chowder was a grey mass; salad was absolutely dripping with dressing; fish & chips, fries tasted of burnt fat, fish batter was soggy and fish was clear/raw. Never again! The heads up for us should have been the table beside us who were having all sorts of issues with their food. Plus a server delivering a birthday dessert but saying to the couple«I do not sing birthday greetings» and just walking.

Second time is a charm. On a recent Saturday, hubs wanted to go to Auburn and suggested we try Maxi’s again. I say again since the last time we stopped by it was closed for the whole afternoon and evening for a private event. I reluctantly agreed. But I’m glad we went. Overall great dining experience. We came in for a late Saturday lunch a few weeks back. The place is located right off I 80 in the same parking lot as Holiday inn. By the looks of the outside, I wasn’t thinking the interior would be impressive. I was wrong, the décor and furniture was new and modern. Very upscale looking. They also have a nice bar with several easy to view TVs tuned to the sports channels. We ordered a hot pastrami with a chosen side of potato salad to share. The pastrami was lean, the kraut and pastrami was tasty. The bread was toasted and a bit greasy though, like it was grilled in grease. We also ordered a wedge salad. Ingredients were fresh. Hubs had a iced tea $ 2.50 with unlimited refills. They brought him a small pot of hot water with a tea bag, lemon wedge, and a glass of ice. I had an Arnold Palmer, they make fresh squeezed lemonade so no HFCS. It’s $ 3 and unlimited. Delicious! The waitress was awesome. After she brought out our drinks; she brought out the complimentary bread. One raisin bread roll and a white bread roll, both came out warm with pats of butter on the side. She also brought out extra plates and offered drink refills just at the right times. She brought out the mustard caddy. She was spot on.

I was on my way back up I-80 towards Reno after a long day in the Sacramento area and hunger was setting in. I love Max’s in Auburn is so conveniently located right in Auburn at the Hwy. 49 Grass Valley exit. It’s right up behind the In N Out next to the freeway. Max’s serves as the onsite restaurant for the Holiday Inn, who actually owns the franchise restaurant. From my experience, all the food is the same as the SF locations. Dinner time it was! We pull in, easy parking and we’re seated in a nice booth in the rear. i spy the delectable desserts in display in the case as we enter. Something to keep in mind! I’m actually not super hungry, otherwise my usual choice would have been the 10 oz. Patty Melt that’s rates as the best I’ve ever had worldwide… really right here! But I decided to behave and get a salad. The Sweet and Sour Spinach Salad with bacon, mushrooms, candied almonds, mandarin oranges, avocado and pear with sweet and sour poppy seed dressing was my choice($ 13.00). I wasn’t driving, so to drink I ordered the large pour 8oz. Red on special that night($ 12.00). My BF didn’t feel like a full entrée either, so he ordered the Cheddar Potato Skins($ 10.00), of course I plan to have some too! Our food arrives together, Potato Skins and my salad. The 8 potato halves are filled with bacon and cheese and are piping hot. My salad is very nice, not super huge, but good sized. The spinach is cleaned well and everything in the salad is fresh and crisp. I was satisfied and didn’t feel I lost anything by not ordering the famous Patty Melt here. The potato skins were very good and had a good amount of cheese and bacon. We didn’t even eat them all, so to go box was had. Too full even for the delicious desserts we saw on the way in… like the best damn Key Lime Pie! Next time I come here, it’s the Patty Melt for sure, but this was a nice stop and relaxing, not like fighting the crowds at the In N Out next door!

Great place for lunch or dinner. Been here many times in the past. I didn’t go with any desert cause of my diet but I’ve had the cheesecake before and it was amazing. Try this place, best in Auburn!

CLASSY place. I am a fan. This seems to be the only place that still keeps the B-52 over on the menu, which I highly suggest to bring back This location also serves roasted brussel sprouts and Farro salad, unique from the rest.

For sure this is a great option when traveling up or down the mountains(and you just don’t feel like McDonalds etc). There is a massive menu selection which should satisfy even the most complicated parties… On this given visit I had a delicious chicken & avocado melt sandwich, while my friend had the ‘famous’ reuben. Prices are reasonable. I’ll be back for sure when going up or down I80 to/from North Shore of Tahoe.

We sit at the bar so this pertains to our«bar» experience… Which has been several times. For Auburn this is a 5 Star restaurant. Here is why. Excellent service! Every. Single. Time. Best beer selection on tap for restaurants in the area. Comfortable atmosphere. Always playing the Giants game or whatever great game is on. Sports fans welcome! Full bar. The food is great & consistent. Try the homemade pretzel with beer cheese dip– that is our Favorite! If you order a meal opt for chips instead of Fries. You will not be disappointed!!! Chips are homemade and delish!
