I am a fan of wine and enjoy visiting wineries to discover wines that taste delicious so that I can purchase wine to enjoy without disappointment as can often be the case when chancing it at a store. That IS the goal. I certainly appreciate the beauty of the scenery that a winery often provides but that really is not my purpose of the visit– just a bonus. A positive interaction with a friendly pourer or winemaker makes me happy and want to give them my business… If the product is good. I often use Unilocal to guide me to new wineries but really have to sift through so many reviews to identify who has the same mission as I do, and who is just there for the fun day trip and easily impressed by fancy buildings and such. Some of my favorite tastings are in an old outbuilding– who cares? It’s all about the wine. I am very lucky to live a very short drive to one of my favorite wineries and that is the one I’m reviewing now. They have a very long list of all of their wines, you can taste them all and revisit if needed. I love the Pinot this year. The Petite Syrah and Cab Franc are consistently favorites, but I enjoy most of everything they pour. Yes, some years are better than others but when you consistently have trouble deciding what to buy… You know you have a winner. The prices are very good for the quality but join the wine club– you’ll be happy. Finally… I should mention… Because it is important to many people– this winery is gorgeous and scenic and you’ll wish you lived there. If you go on a weekend, and it’s a little busy– be understanding– it’s good so people go there.

For $ 10 you get to taste a whole bunch of mostly average wines but because there are so many you’ll be there a while — much longer than you’d like to be. The best way to describe it is low-brow.

We were on a mission to take a photo of an old truck that was the subject of a painting that we had bought with the Mt Vernon logo on it. We found our new favorite wines. Wonderful way to spend New Years Eve, great people, super good wine and lovely setting. They were even kind enough to take a moment from their busy tasting room to show us the old paddy wagon so we could get our pictures. We will definitely be back in 2016.

$ 9 per tasting and you get to taste about 16⁄17 different wines. Most places only give you 5 or 6 tastings so this was really worth it! Only 2 whites out of the bunch so if you are a red wine drinker like I am, this is a good place to try out the gambit of red wines. I really liked their 2011 cab franc and their Z*PS*S. Their«Zinful» was by far my favorite… fruity and sweet. Also, I’m not much of a Cabernet Sauvignon guy but theirs was pretty good. I liked it better than their Merlot. They have 2 wines that when they sell a bottle, a percentage goes to Breast Cancer awareness which I thought was pretty cool! Nice location but lots of windy roads from Marysville. Better to come in from highway 80 and 49. Devony and Julie(our wine pourers) were really nice and vey attentive.

We had a wonderful time here! This was our first winery we went to in this region, and we were pleasantly surprised. First of all, the wines were great. We ended up buying the Grenache, Estate Zin and Petite Syrah. Their local Pinot Noir was great too, and I nearly bought the Girly Man and Cab Franc. Second, the service was great. A lady named Janet helped us, and she was very helpful and gave us lots of fun facts about each wine. There is also a nice garden you can sit in — which was nice to do after our tasting(did I mention we tasted 15 wines?). Definitely worth the trip!

The staff was so nice! We sat outside in their cute picnic area overlooking the Vineyard. The owner gave us wine straight from the barrel and the ladies inside gave us chocolates to go with it. I already knew I liked the wine, and of course I wasn’t disappointed.

I am not a wine aficionado by far, but I know when something tastes good or bad to me. So let’s first talk about there wine. The son is the winemaker and he is like a bored boy with too many toys. Instead of making one or two varietal’s best, he makes them average and moves on. I have never gone to a Napa winery and tasted this many wines. People must come here just because for $ 5 they can get buzzed. Not me. I tasted and spat out most of what I was given, and I like Auburn wines, just not here. There were a few things that were drinkable, just not worth buying. For me this winery is a pass, if not wasn’t for a lovely back patio where you can sit with your friends and laugh. The other part that was hard to swallow was the service. For me the only thing that makes wine better is the company you drink it with. When we came they were not too busy but they had no time for us. We asked questions about the wine and they didn’t know, they didn’t care and they didn’t want to talk about it. There lack of caring showed in the wine and In the service. The wine maker showed up and we tried to engage him in conversation, that was a flop. They need to keep this one from the tasting room floor. All in all, not the best experience.

We found this winery as we drove thru the Auburn hills on our free day heading to SF from Squaw Valley. Very welcoming and quaint winery… tried a dozen varietals and purchase our favorite. Gorgeous grounds, super gracious person pouring, they have many awards for their superior blends and wines! Check em out… mahalo! Kauai Style

Part of the Placer Wine Trail. Lots of signage to find. Plenty of parking on a busy day. Beautiful grounds. Friendly and organized staff. Greeted and helped as reasonably possibly for the holiday weekend. Staff directed us to try the open barrel outside. Typically saved for members and special occasions. Good introduction to the wines. Available for purchase by case that day. Wet and full of flavors expected. We proceeded inside to try a limited see selection of wines for the holiday weekends. Selection included Grenache, Muvedre, Sangiovese, Merlot, and White port. Good introductions to the large varieties that are typically offered(staff informed us). Some dry and some wet. Bursting with flavors. Something for new and something for the experienced wine drinker. Of the ones we tried, we had difficulty deciding which to purchase as they were all enjoyable. We ended up with the red blend and another bottle. Good: too many good choices. Service was quick and friendly Bad: I can’t remember the second bottle purchased. I would definitely come back.

Honestly– anyone with a halfway decent palate could not rate this place with 5 stars. The wine is ok. The location is nice and the patio is awesome. But really peeps, if you think this wine is good then I’m happy for you because that means you have a developing palate. Keep raising the bar and you’ll eventually see what I mean. There is very little quality here and the wine are little more than mediocre. Just look at the color and the bouquet. You’d really have to be entry level to consume an entire bottle. I’m still scratching my head as to where and how they got their medals for ‘award winners’. Who was in the competition? And what did the others taste like?

Neat indoor and outdoor setup. The had a little stand that would take your picture which was pretty cool. Service was super sweet and friendly, top in the region! This was an early stop on our wine tour and I’m glad we came!!!

Found a great winery in Auburn. A lot of tastings for a low price! The pourer even discussed tacos with us. Skip Napa — the best wines are found at the home town foothill vineyards.

Lovely tasting room in a beautiful setting, with some unique reds! The tasting room itself is simple but employees were friendly and talkative, rather than shuffling us through the tasting and out the door. Out the tasting room’s back door is a large patio and garden area with tables overlooking the vineyard. Beautiful view! I would love to return and bring lunch(with a bottle of wine of course) out there sometime. Mt. Vernon had only two white wines, and they were unremarkable. The reds were diverse and very good! Their Pinot Noir is the superstar, but I thought the Shiraz and Merlot were outstanding as well. There’s a $ 6 tasting fee to try about 15(!) wines, which of course is waived if you purchase a bottle. Even if you don’t buy anything it’s a great value! I enjoyed my visit to Mt. Vernon and I can’t wait to go back!

Stopped by here last Saturday afternoon, I have wanted to try these wines for years, as I knew the Taylor’s in the late 90’s when they were starting this winery. We walked into the tasting room. The bar completely lined with ppl. No one greeted us. I noted one female empl behind the bar with a bottle of wine in one hand and the phone up to her ear in the other. I congratulate them for being so busy, but we didn’t feel welcome. Perhaps more empls are needed. We walked out. I hear that their wines are good, I’ll give an extra star for that. Don’t know if I’ll be back. We had just left Dono dal Cielo winery in Newcastle & it was spectacular. We’ll probably just return there.

Went here this past weekend and enjoyed the wine. We ended up purchasing several bottles. I wasn’t a fan of of their viognier — but enjoyed the rest. I’ll definitely circle back here after I try out others in the area. One last thing — I tried a port at this place that I really liked. I didnt remember much about it(there was an obnoxious group in so it made it hard to hear) — but I do remember that being better than other wineries.
