Snow Mountain

Highly recommend! Came across Snow Mountain online while searching for a seasonal snowboard rental for my 14 year old. When I talked to the owner on the phone I asked if he also had ski boots. Mine were ill-​fitting and I have been on the lookout for new boots, not wanting pay full price for another new pair. He told me to bring in all my gear and he would see what he could do. I walked out with a seasonal snowboard rental for my daughter, traded in my ski boots for a great pair that someone else had barely used AND have the best pair of skis I have ever skied on. Staff is super helpful and I am able to go skiing and snowboarding with my daughter without spending a fortune! Thank you, Snow Mountain!

Great shop on the side of the freeway on the way to Tahoe! Rented some snow supplies and came away with some great advice on where to go in the area. Great local gem. Friendly and knowledgable staff who were willing to give us the low-​down on parking and where to go for our snowbound adventure.

We dropped in to rent snowshoes and were back on the freeway in less than 20 minutes, armed with some solid gear, advice about snow conditions, and recommendations for where to park & hike. Multiple store employees pitched in with their own stories, and upon our return, made sure to ask if we had had a good experience (and whether we made it to the top of the mountain)!

This place is only open from Friday to Monday… as in over the weekend. I went there today (Wednesday, ¹²⁄₁₇) after I looked it up on Unilocal which said it was open today from 10:30a-6p. I drove up and the «open» sign was on. Got out my boards for a
tune up (it was raining) and went to open the door only to find it closed. I called and it said it would only be open Friday-​Monday until the season picked up. I would say it has considering we have had two big storms the last two weeks.

The owner was so helpful. If he didn’t have something, he’d recommend a shop that did. It was such a pleasure visiting his store that we had this urge to buy something even if we didn’t need it.

Stopped by for tune up. Lisa did while I waited. Great job. Great customer service. Great price.

I had a great experience there! The service was excellent and very knowledgable. The owner Ed went above and beyond spending almost 2 hours educating me about snowboarding since I’m new to the sport. I just can’t say enough good things about the customer service and quality of gear which is hard to come by these days!

It was Sunday evening, and I was desperately searching for a place where I could rent snowshoes bright and early on Monday morning. Alas, all the places I found online were either closed on Mondays, or didn’t open until 10. I though I would have to drive all the way to Truckee or Tahoe and then backtrack before I could hit the trail. Snow Mountain must have been the 10^th place I called, and I expected either no answer or another recording with unhelpful business hours. But a live person answered the phone! It turns out that Yahoo has these folks’ home number listed as their business number, and I’d called Snow Mountain’s owners at home. (Don’t call the number Yahoo has listed! Call the number above or visit their website!)
Despite being bothered at home on Easter evening, the woman could not have been more gracious. She told me that yes they’re open early on Mondays, and yes they rent snowshoes. Woohoo!
Snow Mountain is right off the freeway in Auburn, and easy to find. The owner was very friendly and helpful. There were several other people there ahead of me, but I didn’t have to wait long at all. He got me set up with a good pair of snowshoes, showed me how to work the bindings, gave us directions to a great nearby trail, and we were back on the road within minutes.
Snow Mountain also rents skis, snowboards and other equipment, and has a huge inventory. The owner manages to give each customer individual attention without neglecting anyone else, and he makes sure that you have the right equipment. The hours are convenient, and returning the equipment was as easy as renting it. I will definitely be back, and I would reccomend this place to anyone renting snowshoes, snowboards, or skis.
