Steak ‘n Shake

So… I try to give places a fair shake and compose my reviews with an objective eye. Hence why I changed this review from one to a two star. Now I hate to ponder who schedules wait staff for this particular Steak ‘n Shake or what sick call or last minute unforeseen happenstance could have placed them in the horrible service quandary they were in. But when we stopped in for a late night bite on a Saturday night after bar closing time there was ONE waitress drowning in a half full restaurant. The food was low par even for a Steak ‘n Shake. Getting a glass of water was a half hour affair and when it came time to pay we would gladly have left cash and walked out if we could have. Unfortunately credit was all we had. In hindsight it probably would have been faster for one of us to drive to an ATM within a 10 mile radius and return with cash just to expedite the horrible experience. Maybe on a day when things are in line this particular Steak ‘n Shake is better. The night we were there they would have been better to simply close than have customers experience the horrible service and food that we did.

Never have I felt so bad for waiting at a drive through window — hoping the woman Andrea would come back so I could ask for salt! It was 12:36 am and when she threw the food at me into my car — I should have known I wasn’t supposed to ask for salt.
I waited for another five minutes and Andrea opened the door and before I could ask for the salt — she said ‘oh, I thought you were the next car’ and she slammed the window.
No doubt Andrea isn’t having a great night and I’d highly recommend you didn’t go see here tonight.

Wow. Worst steak and shake experience ever!
Coffee tastes like an ashtray, cashier was completely rude. Glad it is not in my hometown.

Had the Caribbean Jerk Steakburger. Had to spread the sauce over the whole burger, to even out the seasoning, but then it was quite enjoyable. The peppers gave it some extra so iciness. Had the Caramel salty pretzel shake and it was tasty. Just make sure you stir the shake to even out the pretzel bits. Otherwise they may clog up the straw in the end. Also the Caribbean Jerk is on the 4 dollar menu so it won’t break your bank with that ice cold Coke!

Poor food with poor service is a bad combo.
After my waitress went MIA, I had to shout to one of the kids behind the counter to get my shake order.
She quit talking to her group of friends that she was visiting with and got me my shake, but I don’t think I’ll be going back any time soon.

I’ll give them two stars because I still like their food, especially the milkshakes! but my last few visits to Steak N Shake have been disappointing because of the service.
The last time I visited this particular location I was meeting up with some friends to grab dinner before a movie. I was really hungry, and we had already bought our movie tickets, so we didn’t have a whole lot of time to waste.
When I got there, they had already finished their food and were waiting on the bills. I had been sitting there with them for at least twenty minutes before the waitress had even acknowledged our table, meanwhile, she was busy seating other customers and bringing them drinks. She came over to us and said she’d be back in a minute. I kept getting hungrier and hungrier, hoping she would be back soon! We sat there waiting, and I contemplated just going to Sonic instead, where I knew I wouldn’t have to wait so long for food.
Twenty minutes later, she came back with their bills, and asked if I would like anything. By this time I had utterly given up all hope of dinner at Steak N Shake, and kindly told her I didn’t need anything. I ended up eating at Sonic that night.
Now, I don’t know if our waitress was just having a hectic night, or if they were short-​staffed that evening… I’m certainly not going to pass judgment on her, but that was not the best experience I’ve had at that restaurant.
Steak N Shake is a better place to go late at night with a group of friends, or if you’re not in a hurry.
