I know the Y off Wheeler is perhaps «fancier» (and it’s also great!) but the downtown Y has more of a Cheers vibe– you know, where everybody knows your name. The cycling studio and the cardio equipment is on the 4th floor and the weights and pool are in the basement– perhaps not typical of a gym but that’s part of the charm.
Also, the 9 am RPM (like spin) class is a heck of a workout and a great time.
