Dynamic Paintball

Know before u go that this place is run by teenagers. Teenagers who will put loyalty to their buddies and being «cool» over your safety. I’ve played paintball before– but this experience was awful, and felt downright dangerous.
It was like Lord of the Flies.
I had run out of ammo and put both hands up to walk out of bounds and get escorted off the field as instructed. I held up both hands and called to the ref– he might have been all of 15. A group of older teen boys then shot me at close range 5x in the chest, raising welts. I called the ref again and instead of escorting me off the field, he stuck me back behind the re-​spawn panel where another child was hiding. I complained about the cheating, asked him why he wasn’t saying anything. He told me «just stay there» and ran back to watch. I had the distinct feeling that I was distracting him from having fun.
The bullies he obviously admired continued to pelt me unchallenged for the rest of the game, leaving kiwi sized purple/​red/​green welts on my legs. When I tried to move, they hit the small child that was hiding behind me.
During the same game the ref ignored his «heroes» as they pelted another young man who had his hands up while attempting to help another child– we found out later they were there for a BD party. The older teens had hit the child in the face and head and the child was on the ground crying. The young man also called out to the ref with his hands up that a kid was hurt, but the teen ref did nothing, and the bullies continued to hit them both until the ref called time.
Afterwards, the ref stated, «well, I couldn’t stop the game…»
Um, yes. You could have. It’s what refs do.
When I complained at the desk– run slapdash by somewhat older teens– they told the ref he was out of line and should have said something. Oh, and they forgot– I should have gotten a chest protector.
However, for the rest of the afternoon, the kid ref gave no «reminder» safety talks, and gave the cheating orders boys free reign, including letting them shoot the opposing team in the back of the head while they were still taking the field before the whistle.
The ref even put all the little kids on the team opposite his thug buddies. The poor littl’uns. And when my husband spoke up in the absence of any rule enforcement by this ref, who was running the games on this day, the four cheaters AND the ref gave us dirty looks like we were spoiling their fun.
Lord of the Flies.
Until they get adult supervision at this venue, avoid it or play fast and loose with your child’s safety.
Oh, ps the thugs/​cheaters/​shoot young children in the headers were AFJROTC. SHAMEFUL!
Btw, the venue allows people to bring on their own higher powered equipment– they’re more accurate, and do more damage… to your body. So it’s easier for players who want to hurt people to hit them in the back of the head …

These guys are HUGE on safety while ensuring everyone is having a good time.
