Barn Sale 2015… this was my mother’s first time going to the barn sale. I had assured her on our way that going at almost closing time was the «best time» to get in. No lines, less people-​perfect! Ha! I have never been on opening day, but when we got in line at 5:45 («close» at 6) and had to wait as there were AT LEAST 100 – 125 people in front of us. I was shocked to say the least. However, as always, worth the wait! They had AMAZING new storage containers with plastic lids in a huge variety of sizes and patterns. My pup is currently rocking an awesome collar that has a little bandana attached! (Mom got one for his brother too!) Oddly enough, when you get that many crazy shoppers together you would think people would be pushy and rude. Never at Mackenzie-​Childs! Everyone is friendly and kind, helping others grab merchandise or telling you where they found something that you love in their cart! I always love the barn sale and will be going back as long as they have one! Awesome first day to the staff who were champs at getting LOOOOONG lines checked out quickly and efficiently. Two thumbs up!!!

I came with my mom to help shop at the famous barn sale. We were prepared for a long line but this year it just about doubled (even when we arrived later in the day when there are supposed to be less people). The prices on all the items also increased since the past few years (meaning the 50% off tag on the reduced price meant nothing when you saw it shopping). With that said, MC housewares are beautiful and they carry so many very special pieces that give your home a unique flair, specially from upstate ny. Almost everything here makes a great gift too. Also everything is reduced at the barn sale so if you are gonna buy from here, this is the time.
You can order from the catalog throughout the year but if you are in upstate it’s definitely worth coming to visit the studio and shop. The property is huge, beautiful, and right on the lake. It’s a fun place to go shopping for the day, have lunch in the cute town of aurora nearby, and enjoy the beautiful waters of keuka lake.

I guess if someone can give 1 star because Mackenzie doesn’t suit their taste, I’ll give 5 because it suits mine just fine. ;-)
Mackenzie-Child’s is located in Aurora, about 50mins from Syracuse. I love the shop, the barns and the farm house. The gardens are nice, the geese are aggressive but behind fences, and the greenhouse is pretty cool.
I enjoy everything about the Mackenzie shop, excellent service, whimsical items priced insanely and a sprinkling of fairy dust.
On several occasions I’ve called ahead and picked up the item. Everyone is extremely accommodating. Make sure you get on their mailing list as they have weekend specials here and there for 20%off, as well as their big Barn Sale in July, which is the equivalent of an old ladies blood sport, but you should attend at least one.

I love the concept, I own a lot of MacKenzie-Child’s, but I am tired of the lack of quality! Artistian originality and describing items as unique is excusing sloppiness and laziness! Almost everything I receive has to be returned because something does not sit level, has something missing or falling off, or it looks as if a preschooler painted it!

Product was not as described in catalog. Customer service was not at all helpful. Do not buy online from this company!

Went out to the annual barn sale today. What a great sale. 20−70% off so many items. The staff (there was a lot of) were so helpful and really seemed to enjoy their job. Can’t wait til next year.

DO NOT BUY A GIFT FROM THIS STORE! We were sent a wedding present from MacKenzie-​Childs that we did not like. The store has other beautiful things, but not to our style. The store makes the receiver of a gift pay for shipping on the returns (as in, this gift is now costing me money to return it), and they will not refund the amount of the gift, but will only give store credit (I don’t want anything in the store). If you think someone would appreciate a gift from this store, give them cash and tell them to consider this store. Otherwise, a gift from MacKenzie-​Childs is as likely to delight as it is to frustrate the recipient.

I planned to stop at the aurora store around 5:15, only to find out that they closed early due to inclement weather (a tornado watch). The weather turned out to be fine and the other establishments that we visited that afternoon were not closed. So if you plan on visiting there — call ahead as they may decide to close for no reason.

The tour of mackenzie childs farmhouse is a must and started at 11am. It was filled from top to bottom with furniture, tableware and décor of mackenzie childs. I especially loved the bathrooms and kitchens complete with tiled and drawer pulls. The courtly check room even had a closet shower! That was awesome. Also liked the pink petal bathroom and kitchen. I am sad that the honeymoon pattern is retiring, it looks beautiful. I would however, not decorate my entire house in mackenzie childs. It was a little overkill and by the end I was mackenzie-​childed-​out. It did however inspire me on which pieces to buy and I left mackenzie childs a happy camper with a beautiful decorative courtly check teapot. The grounds are beautiful and consist of a lake with a gazebo like bench, a goose house and animals (hairy cattle, goose, lamb, peacock, etc) that any child would love. This place was beautifully designed and layed out. Definitely a must see in Aurora!
