The catfish was good! Cold salad bar, grandmas pea salad. Iced tea was spot on. Good prices. I tried the mushrooms and was impressed. It could be cleaner, but great for the area.

Our first time there for breakfast, which was good, but couldn’t finish because we spotted a roach on the wall by our booth. That killed our appetite quickly,

I ate there with my two teenagers and none of us were impressed. Everything offered seemed to be fried and nothing really stood out as far as taste. Service was good, but I don’t think we’ll be back.

We finally hunted this place down after seeing a sign for it for a few months. In my mind I was envisioning a small place in Rhome, but it was a totally different establishment. We went on a Saturday or Sunday(can’t remember which) around lunchtime. The building, on the outside, was big and kind of old looking, but there was a good number of cars in the huge parking lot so we went for it. Inside we were instructed, by a sign, to seat ourselves. A waitress came by soon after to take our drink order and meal order. I went with French toast and hash browns(hi, carbs), and my husband got the roasted chicken and dressing. My food wasn’t really anything super special, but it was good and filling. It was along the lines of any other diner breakfast. My husband said that his food was wonderful. His meal also came with a trip to the salad bar and a side of sweet potatoes. Would we go back? Maybe. We may not have the opportunity as we are moving to Michigan in a week, lol. If we were staying we probably would try them again. The waitresses were friendly, the food was decent, and it was decently priced. The building itself is unique in that it was several different rooms. We happened to sit right off of the kitchen so there was plenty of traffic. One thing that turned me off was a strong smell of stale cigarette smoke. It was like it was soaked into the walls or booth. Not sure, but it was definitely noticeable and gross.

Had all you can eat fish Friday. The fish was fresh cooked but soggy and had a dark coating mixure. No fried potatoes came with the sides. Ask for crisp fish on reorder bot it was only slightly less soggy. Sorry folks this is just not the place for really good fried fish. We do like supporting local restaurants.

We Love the Fried Catfish, Best Fish we have had in years, Hot Flavorful well seasoned and Tender Solid White Fish. Cooked and prepared to perfection. Y’all need to try the Fried Squash Excellent Taste and Flavor. Salad Bar was fresh and crisp, the potato salad taste like granny’s. Very couteous, friendly and pompt service from a very sweet lady(Julie) I think thats her name? I told her I’m not good with names. Clean well kept older establishment. Request: would be nice to have Pinto’s w/catfish! The person that made the tarter sauce missed the TARTER and Pickle Relish, Hint: chop a small amount pickle Jalepeno’s in the pickle relish for the tarter is Not hot most people can’t tell, but the great flavor.

Well, I had to try it. Drove over on Sunday to have the breakfast that everyone had raved about. I arrived too late to have the breakfast buffet, so I ordered a big breakfast anyway and my wife ordered the western omelet. It took forever to get our food. The service was terrible. Ran out of coffee twice. My wife’s omelet was full of grease. The hash browns had a terrible old flavor to them and my eggs where way over cooked. The only thing in the plate that was good was the biscuit and gravy. Even the sausage patty seemed cheap. Wow! I have never wrote this bad of a review about anyone! They will never have me back! P. S. Thank god I missed the all you can eat buffet.

I have a catfish, green beans and fried squash it was all excellent. Especially the fried squash, I would recommend that any time. I know this places in the middle of nowhere but if you’re heading down Highway 287 make the Outaway stop here. It’s definitely home country cooking.

This is a week over due. If I could rate less than 1 star this would be it. I heard it was new owners and it had improved since I was there years ago. Thought why not give it a go. I had the rib eye special ya right a dollar off and one less side. The steak was cooked properly but the cut was like they did their own butchering from something they rustled. The amount of gristle was of poor quality. Brown gravy on mashed potatoes yep this southern boy knows that’s a social wrong, not all that good of gravy either, mashed potatoes where good, but does have room for improvement. The best thing going was the salad bar. Service can we say turtle slow for ordering, and getting outs meals, even waited for the bill. So over 1 hour to order and get our food, no not overly busy either so that’s not an issue. The most prompt person was the bus boy, whom could not have been more than 14. The only way this place could make the 4 stars is ringers posting on Unilocal. Don’t waste your time, or money for that matter.

Sorry TJ, but I can’t defend you after my latest experience. Went in clean shaven and came out with a long gray beard. Waaay too long to wait for food to be served. Some of our food was good, but the steak left a lot to be desired. Service started out promising but soon fizzled out. I may go back for breakfast but this was probably my last time to go for dinner.

Service was horrible, food took forever & everyone around us got their food before us. The servers were rude, it took forever to also get orders in including drinks. When we got our food it was cold & Blaise. IHOP is better & you get more for the price. Don’t waste your time or money here!

We went at 11:30 on a Thursday morning. Anabeth was our waitress and she was a little cold at first, but once we showed her that we were just a carefree couple, she opened up and showed her personality to us. She was open to all the locals, but to us, she needed to feel worthy to show her smile. We ordered fried pickles as a starter and we both had Chicken Fried Steak with mashed potatoes, I also had fried okra. I believe the okra was frozen, and I wont’ complain about them because they are consistent with other okra. I am not a fan of fried pickles, but whatever the spice was in that batter, which they use on their catfish as well, kept tempting me to have another and another. Those were amazing and may be worth a trip out from Ft. Worth again very soon. The CFS was probably one of the best we have ever had, and that is one of our measures to a great local, country café. This cube steak was tenderized to the point that it was fork tender. The mashed potatoes needed some work, but that has been addressed, and I was told that what we were presented with was NOT what they typical potatoes are. I can’t wait to take my family to try the catfish and the CFS while I try something else like the hamburger steak.

A meal at Tater Junction has always been a treat, from the first week when we moved to Wise County(almost eight years ago). I loved how the lobby once housed sweet and interesting gifts which could be purchased(a mini-Cracker Barrel!). I bought a lovely statuette for my mother there. The paneling and Western décor in the large dining room are nifty, and I much prefer eating within its walls to the narrow alternatives we were directed to on our last couple of visits. Live music sometimes is offered :) Yes, their banana pudding is out of this world, and the meats often are fried(surprise!). Our family enjoys the trip to the salad bar which comes with every meal. That said, we’d noticed a shift in the quality of food during the past couple of years. Perhaps the owners were experiencing personal challenges. We’ve not yet sampled the breakfasts, nor eaten at Tater Junction since the new folks took over. I look forward to doing both, soon.
