**The billing dept is AWFUL! I really like Dr. Patel he was very nice and had great bedside manner. He recommended PT and than injections (steroid). I had 3 steroid injections with Dr. Friedrich who is super nice too however, he had one of his students do my last injection and the injection got all over my back it didn’t go into the site so they added more medicine. It was kinda a nightmare. Well to top it off the billing dept just sent my the bill for the 2^nd injection (the first one and 3^rd one were paid by insurance) for thousands of dollars and when I called they said Insurance «United Healthcare» denied my claim saying it was experimental. I had three of these injections the other 2 were after this and insurance paid for it. The gal in their billing dept refused to help me. Clearly they did something wrong. For a hospital as big as UCH I would think there billing dept would be more helpful. They obviously did something wrong. I called the billing Dept 3 or 4 times today. NO ONE not even a manager would help me. They told me I had to call my insurance company. DO NOT go here for anything if you want bad service and horrible billing. Most of all they don’t even have a clue how to deal with there own errors.
Update: I had to call United Healthcare and found out they billed with the wrong Medical Code United HealthCare said they would be happy to pay the bill if it is submitted properly. I than conferenced University Physcians Billing on the line w/​United Healthcare and after they determined it was the wrong code — I asked the Billing Dept now that you know this is your error would you Please stop billing me and please not send me to collections. The billing dept said «NO Julia we will not stop billing YOU and we will Not stop collections». She than said to United Healthcare that they needed to send them a request to revise these codes. I am never ever going to UCH ever again. The billing dept is extremely RUDE at least the Physician billing dept is. FYI you get a bill from the hospital and the Dr. pretty standard w/​Hospitals.
UPDATE 2−4−16 had to call again and gal again was rude and mean she after reading notes said she would suspend or put my invoice on hold and have the billing coders resubmit to United Health Care with the right codes. Apparently the codes were Generic and not correct. I had to do all the leg work to figure this out. I was treated very rudely. The Doctors at UCH are fantastic and the medical staff is amazing. The billing dept is rude, mean, angry, unhelpful. The gal last night would not put my invoice on hold. It depends on who you talk too!

Only one visit to a physician using this billing service didn’t result in multiple phone calls between insurance and them.

I just received a notice from a collection agency saying I did not pay a bill. When I called University Physicians Inc, they told me they had sent me a bill every month for the last 5 months. I never received a single bill yet according to their records they have my correct address. How did the collection agency get the right address but UPI couldn’t? Horrible billing service!

If I could give you zero stars I would. These people are the absolute worst.
First, their billing system is a nightmare. Multiple accounts with multiple invoices makes paying for these bills an epic nightmare. You have to make 50 dollar payment plans for each one… which if I did would bankrupt me. But they dont care about that. You can make regular payments every month and they will send you to collections like the assholes they are without calling you to let you know.
Cigna messed up their coverage at the beginning of the year… they told me I owed them over 10k. When I said that the insurance is straightening it out and to wait (with proof from Cigna btw), they said they «don’t know what to tell me, just pay 50 dollars and we will get you your money back.» Turns out Cigna paid all of it… Still waiting on that guys, it’s been 8 months.
I’ve paid bills off in full… and yet 1 month later I get a collection notice of that same bill, thanks for the credit ding btw.
You are EVERYTHING THAT IS WRONG WITH THE HEALTHCARE SYSTEM.
These people are rude, they don’t listen, I’ve been told directly by them they don’t care about my concerns and their lack of respect toward the people they serve is appalling. I will not continue to be treated like I’m a criminal for having medical issues and shitty health insurance. I have switched carriers and have paid the last of my bills and will never deal with this crap with you again… good riddance.

I visited Children’s Urgent Care facility off Lucent in Highlands Ranch for the 1^st time on March 9, 2015. My 4 yr old daughter was the patient, and she received excellent care, however, we will never return to this facility again due to the problems we are currently encountering with University Physicians, Inc, Billing Department.
To understand completely what is occurring, please note the following:
Per our Insurance Plan with United Healthcare, I am responsible for a $ 75 copay for an Urgent Care visit. I paid the $ 75 by Visa at the end of our visit on March 9, 2015. Our Explanation of Benefits (EOB) from United Healthcare shows the correct amounts billed for our visit to Children’s Urgent Care on March 9, 2015; minus United’s contractual discount; minus the amount United paid; and minus our copay amount (per the EOB, all amounts paid were paid to a Doctor from University Physicians). However, we still received a bill from University Physicians, Inc., stating we owe $ 75. Per our EOB from United Healthcare, and per our health plan with United, we owe NOTHING ELSE for this visit. I have explained all of this to a representative in the billing department at University Physicians, Inc., yet to no avail to have them remove this charge — they will continue to bill us for $ 75 until it is paid.
I have talked to a representative at the State of Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) and they have told me that it appears University Physicians, Inc., is «Balance Billing» — which is ILLEGAL in the state of Colorado. I am filing a complaint with DORA.

Had a horrible experience with this group of thieves.
We took our daughter to Children’s Highlands Ranch for a visit with an orthopedic doc regarding a greenstick fracture. The entire visit lasted for 45 minutes (including waiting room time). We were sent on our way with a splint and told to not come back. We were billed $ 1,945 for our visit. The billing group insist «that the charges are valid and they receive this complaint a lot.»
I could jump through myriad hoops they’ve set up, meanwhile fending off collection agencies. Or just pay the d@mn bill and spread the word so others can learn from our expensive lesson.

This company’s billing department is incompetent. Turned me over to collections saying I had not been paying. Do not do business with any doctor who is in this group. Billing is very incompetent and dishonest.

Not the best billing company, had three Dr appts paid with 2 checks and 1 credit card and even after they deposited all still showed my account past due by 2 non payments. No response after I had to send bank deposit and credit card slips we’ll see if my email actually gets read and they actually properly apply money I paid to my account. Poor accounting practices.

This organizations is one of the worst I have ever worked with. I had a few different invoices that were supposed to be combined into one and I set up a payment plan. Several months ago I was contacted and they claimed I had not been paying, I had to copy bank statements and fax them to prove that I had paid. Now today I call to make a payment and they claim they have not received a payment in the last 6 months and they are going to send me to collections, when I have been making monthly payments. The billing office is incompetent. I have wasted so much of my time straightening out my bill. It’s totally unprofessional.

Recently, I found out that I had a bill from University Physicians, but they not only sent the bill to the wrong house, but also just sent one or two bills from a procedure I had in 2013 at University of Colorado Hospital. When I found out about the most recent bill, which eventually arrived at my dad’s house, I called UP 1 week after he received it and found out that they sent the bill to collections the day before I called. Nobody from UP contacted me or my family about the bill we never saw or knew about and said it could go to collections or sent a letter stating that it could.
I also found out about another bill that was created back in 2009 that I also just found out about that has my name associated with it, yet it has the doctor that my parents saw from a hospital that the doctor isn’t associated with. Pretty lousing communication here. Try and stay away from any place associated with UP. The billing department sucks and now my credit and bank account is taking a hit because of it.

PLEASE check with your doctors BEFORE you visit and make sure they are NOT associated with University Physicians, Inc.

I went for a routine annual eye exam… typically paid $ 115 for this visit. However, this year my doctor (trying to retire) thought becoming associated with University Physicians would ease his retirement plans. After my routine annual eye exam, University Physicians billed my insurance $ 414 for this appointment. After my insurance the bill was $ 255.95 — this doesn’t include the fact that I paid $ 60 copay at the visit. After complaining to University Physicians they lowered the bill to see the doctor to $ 172.80 plus the $ 60 copay
All I can say — is although I liked my eye doctor this service is not worth a Bill of $ 312.00 ($ 60 co pay + $ 40 eye prescription + $ 40 office room charge + 172.80 doctor charge)
Even the doctor said they will probably lose all the clients that pay and only serve those that are not obligated to pay.

Not happy. The billing code used for any Dr. visit is an Outpatient even when it is just a consultation for a non surgery related issue. My insurance benefits treat Outpatient billing code differently than a specialty care visit. So, I end up paying more out of pocket than a Specialty Care Copay. I asked if University Physicians could use different billing codes other than one single code. They will not change it. What?! Everything is treated as Outpatient? I can’t see these Doctors outside of a Hospital, so I have little choice. This company and the Doctors associated with UP are part off fleecing patients. There are vocational schools to teach folks the huge amounts of billing codes in the medical field and UP only uses one?!
I feel like if you want to see a Dr. associated with UP then we make you and your insurance pay a crap load! I will choose to avoid seeing Dr. associated with UP. Period!

My review is actually for the University Physicians billing system. Horrible! I have no choice but to use them, but I need to complain about how terrible they are somewhere so that I don’t take it out on their customer service employees.
We’ve been stuck using them for about 5 years. They wait months to bill for anything, and apparently don’t keep good records. I’ve had several problems with getting past due bills for amounts that have been paid, and having to waste time having them straighten it out. Most recently, they sent my information to a collection agency for a bill that had been paid.
It took me forever to get through to them due to «high call volume.» I left a message after being on hold for close to an hour the first day, and 3 days later, no call back. I had to call and hold again, and once someone answered the phone, the first thing she asked was «Do you mind holding?» Grr…
If you’re trying to decide between health plans, AVOID, AVOID, AVOID any that use University Physicians.

Both of the previous reviews are in error. University Physicians Inc. is the company that bills for the doctors and other medical providers that work at UCH & Children’s, not the medical facility itself. The prior reviews should be posted on the UCH review page for accuracy/​clarity.

I work at UC Anschutz and my medical plan forces me to use the university physician services here. When I called to make an appointment in Dermatology I was given an appointment three months out. An appointment in the hepatology department, two and a half months out. Private insurance and the University physicians are the nightmare socialized medicine is reported to be. I’ve actually gotten better medical treatment in Mexico!
