My daughter and I received exceptionally good service from Ashley. We had several challenges, but Ashley found a pair of shoes that my daughter loves. Thank you, Ashley.

Only getting two stars because I like the pricing. I went in to buy ammo and when checking out, the cashier thought it was much more important to flirt with another associate than to greet me. Never really even acknowledged me until she said the total due. I will continue to shop Academy but not this location.

The only one in this immediate area, the other stores are located quite a ways away. This store has a ton of parking. They have a great selection of shoes with all sorts of pricing range for both men and woman. The employees in the shoe section are great and always willing to help you look for your size,
The ammo selection here is great as well and it typically has what you are looking for in stock, there are a few good finds in the actual gun case, just do your research before you commit to buying it, there may be other pricing around.
The clothing section is pretty good as well and they always have at least one sale rack going on, not matter what time of year.

Super disappointed in this Academy.
The customer service today wasn’t the best.
Today I ended up grabbing a display box and didn’t realize it till I was already at the cash register. Told someone on the floor and he didn’t bother to help me and go get the right box I needed just laughed and told me I got the display box and to go back and get another one.
Never will I be back to this location.

Gosh I really love this place but the handful of times I have been here the employees have been terrible. They are quite rude and do not seem to want to share any information for some odd reason. Five different people were somehow unhelpful about a simple question and none of them were willing to lead me to someone else who may be of help. I even called and told the manager about my experience so he could perhaps get to the bottom of it but that didn’t help either. I wish we had another near by because the store itself really has a lot of great merchandise. :(

I came here for shoes and quickly realized that I’ve never grown up. I’m a 31 year old that, when bored, and left unattended, I will touch/​poke/​prod/​open anything I can get my hands onto. We came here because I needed sneakers for work. I touched all the shoes. All. Of. Them. They had a really great selection though. Walked out with a pair for only $ 40. Unfortunately, that was the length of my attention span, but my companion wanted to look at cargo pants and bullets. During this incredible journey, I made friends with a plastic duck, which was supposedly going to be used as target practice later in his life. They have a rather wide selection of bullets and firearms related merchandise. I know this, because it took my partner in retail crime a great deal of time to get through everything. Meanwhile, I discovered that rifle cases look an awful lot like guitar cases, feel fantastic, and you can get just about everything home defense related in pink, and even pink camo. Will be back.

Purchased tennis shoes for a 7 year old, 8 weeks later the Saucony (parent company is Stride Ride) shoes are near shreds, typical wear and tear by a 7 year old. Bottoms of shoes had come unglued. Toe guards also were shredded.
Sent an email to the manufacturer, within 20 minutes I had received an email from CS stating to take the shoes back to Academy or send them directly to Sacony with a prepaid postage label as the shoes were 100% guaranteed.
Returned the shoes to Academy today, no questions asked, told me to get another pair of shoes, did not need a receipt, did not need to show the Sacony email to them.
Grateful for a good experience.

Terrible, rude, passive aggressive service from the fishing department.

Horrible customer service from the night crew. I love academy. I just don’t appreciate; first, having to chase associates down like they can’t hear me. Second, the attitude and lack of enthusiasm in just answering a simple question of where something is. Come on, we all have to suck it up and smile all day. Not only that, you are getting paid to.

I got as a gift a Under Armour compression shirt at regular price and 4 weeks later it’s no longer in inventory and the shirt has begin to come undone. I took it in to do a simple exchange and they had the never to say the shirt is now worth $ 2.98. It was a gift so I didn’t have a receipt but before going in I called and spoke to someone and explained my situation and they said no problem but when I got to the store that’s when the olé bait and switch took place.

When it comes to needing workout gear Academy always has what I’m looking for and usually has some kind of sale going on towards the back to the store. Academy has a great selection of running and cross training shoes with great prices. I will continue to keep this store first on my list.

So. So. Way to much Nike crap. Seriously! Prices sub par. Great deals when there is a sale. Assuming you’ll be able to find your size. Great shoe selection. Attentive and mostly friendly staff.

I went in for some hunting gear, the service was ok and store is well stocked, the prices are also ok.
Reason for my review is because the other Austin stores are no good in my opinion.

I shop here a lot, and the service is VERY hit or miss. Went in a few days ago and bought a new rod and reel setup. Bought some higher quality line to spool up in it, and had plenty left over. Told them I had another reel at the house, and they said to bring it in and they would spool it up for free. Took it in today, and one of the SAME GUYS that helped me the other night said that they don’t spool up standard fishing reels. Made a trip all the way over there, and they wouldn’t even do what they told me they would. That’s pretty frustrating.
It also seems like every time I need to ask an employee a question, I find them huddled up in discussion. Feel like I’m interrupting something just to ask a question.
If you know what you need, and can find it, this location is just fine. Otherwise, you never know what kind of service you will get.

There is not one decent place to secure a bike near this Academy!!! Academy!!! They sell bikes for crying out loud! Sports and outdoors my ass. Not sure why I expected anything different, they are basically the Wal-​Mart of sporting goods.

Best place for rain boots on a rainy day! Not a lot of selection, and I got my daughter a watch that broke before we got out the car, so we’ll be back to return that. I don’t anticipate a problem returning it.
I was a bit surprised. The last time I was at this Academy they had causal clothing in addition to work out clothing. Now, for women and kids at least, it appears to be just work out gear.

After a frustrating experience the night before (read below) I decided to try again. Because I found out most sports stores in Austin to don’t carter to sporty size women. Luckily, Mike the footwear manager redeemed Academy a bit. By helping my find another cleat and making the purchase worth my troubles. I appreciate the efforts by Mike today and Pam last night. And I appreciate that Academy unlike Dick’s expects that Amazon sized women might come in looking for cleats!

It’s been a long time since I have been completely disappointed by a shopping experience. I have never been in one of these stores before, so when I needed a certain size in shoe, I naturally went to the customer service desk and waited in line. When I reached the front I was told «Oh, you’re suppose to get someone in Footwear to help you!» As if the was common knowledge. After finding someone in Footwear, she had to ask me to find another representative because she was helping a customer.
I wandered in the direction she sent me in hunt for someone else, right before I was about to just put the shoe box down and leave the store. The same representative came up behind me and asked to help me instead of having me hunt down her co-​worker.
She search the computer system and found two stores that had my size in stock. After waiting on the phone for a good amount of time with both stores. They both informed her that they in fact did not have the shoes in stock.
So, the representative was being amazing and trying her best to help me out. But both of our time was completely wasted due to a poor computer management system. She could have been helping other customers instead of hunting down phantom footwear. And my time was wasting hunting down representative because of whatever ridiculous service policy Academy had in place.
I left the store frustrated and unsatisfied. The experience gains two stars for the efforts of Pam, the customer service representative.

I absolutely adore this place and am so, so sad that Academy’s are only a Texas thing (bc I now live in Arizona). I swear, I always save up my «sport-​store» needs for when I come back to Texas because Academy is BY FAR cheaper than any other place around. With a huge variety of items, incredible prices (equal to or even CHEAPER than Walmart), and service with a smile. They always have super-​quick lines (even around the holidays!) and knowledgable staff to help you find whatever you need. I’ve been for a variety of needs: camping, golfing, cycling, swimming, etc etc etc… they’ve got it all! ALSO — check out their tennis shoe selection!!! The staff are trained just as much as at the elite running stores and they have the same selection for a fraction of the cost! Can’t say enough good things about them!!!

As it turned out, I wound up needing to return the aforementioned hammock also because it didn’t fit on the stand I bought. No questions asked, it was taken back and cash handed to me and I was on my way. MUCH better experience this time around, even though I left with no hammock.

I’m not a big box fan, but Academy is pretty good at carrying whatever you need for most sports at a pretty good price. This is a pretty nice Academy (compared to say, the one on I-​35); it was well-​staffed and employees were helpful. They’ve got lots of mid-​range clothes (price-​wise) and tons of Levis at a decent price ($ 60 ish). I got a t-​ball tee, some kid baseball gloves, a myofascial release roller for some messed up leg muscles, and a wiffle ball set.
It’s not the yuppie-​heaven that is REI (but I went there next). And they also seem to have learned that it’s OK to stock some A&M stuff in Austin. Yay. Or should I say, whoop.
