Al Pastor

I must be blind because I didn’t see the trompo anywhere. The trompo is that spit where the meat is grilled then carved out. At least that’s how I grew up eating tacos al pastor aka tacos de trompo. With a name like «Al Pastor» or «All Pastor» like it says on the truck, you’d expect a more authentic and fresh tasting taco. They were just ok and cheap. Two pastor, two bistek, one fajita gordita that got soggy and fell apart, and one carnitas sope = $ 16. Tacos El Primo in Kyle is better.
The salsa green was fantastic.

So they tout themselves as being the authority on authentic Mexican tacos.
Who am I to dispute that?
The menu: short and sweet. Why muck it up with jibberish when you do few things, and do them well.
I just walked away for lunch with two tacos, one barbacoa and one carnitas… on flour… so sue me… for $ 4.00. They came with both red and green salsas and lime wedges, onion & cilantro on top and a whole lotta Yum factor.
The salsas are purees, the green definitely had cilantro and either jalapeño or serranos or some hot pepper, and perhaps avocado? It was creamy and had great heat to it. The salsa roja is also a purée, very creamy, but that sucker had a flavor I was altogether unfamiliar with. Seriously — while it was very tasty on the carnitas taco, I had no idea what I was eating. I almost thought at one point there were pinto beans in the purée (But maybe they use some of the same seasonings I’m used to in refried beans?) Perhaps there was chipotle in there? I honestly have no friggin’ clue. Great heat, as well.
I’ll be adjusting my commute tomorrow to try their breakfast selections. They’re at the intersection of South Congress & Pickle Street in the gas station’s parking lot. But the truck holds its own with decent seating that’s clean and spacious and umbrellas. Took about 7 minutes for my food to come out. Another customer came and picked up a to-​go order while I was there. So I’ll have to post their phone number when I find it.
