Awesome. Go here and enjoy. Surf and turf was my choice. Had to turn away a bottle of wine and the they reacted like pros. This is the place.

I went for the steak and ordered the bone-in rib eye. It was thick, cooked precisely medium rare, spiced with sufficient salt to enhance the great beef flavor. One of the best steaks I’ve had with non of the pomp or pretension of the downtown big steak houses. The garlic mashed and the hearts of romaine salad were adequate but not up to the excellent downtown versions. On the other hand the cool relaxed old-Austin feeling of ALC is outstanding and the prices are low enough to make this a real hit and a place on my permanent list.

In this case, you do get what you pay for. We started with several appetizers; the oysters texefeller and the beef sashimi were stand outs. Everyone had steak and they were all terrific. Add the Oscar or the ALC for even more deliciousness. The big fail was the fried spinach, we actually just sent it back. Love spinach, but wow, who is eating this? All the other side dishes were on par and the waiter was top notch. Got a special occasion coming? Try ALC.

Based on the reviews of this place, I had somewhat high expectations, but I found ALC steaks to be just OK. My first impression when I was seated was… it’s so dark! Steakhouses typically have more ambient lighting, but it was so dark I could barely see my food. Looks like we got seated in a particularly dim area of the restaurant because the central seating area seemed to be better lit. I was impressed by the service, and the bread was well-made. I ordered the 14 oz ribeye Oscar style(lump crab + spicy hollandaise) with a side of truffled bacon mac & cheese. The mac & cheese was delightful. The sauce was delicious and the breadcrumbs were still crunchy. The steak was okay. Seasoning and rub were both very good. But it had way too much fat which made for tedious chewing. And because it was so dim in the restaurant, I had trouble seeing the difference between fat and meat! The meat itself, however, was tasty, but it could have been more tender. Overall, my experience was just alright. I enjoyed the meal, but it wasn’t worth the cost.

I had the steak frites for lunch the other day with both the chimichurri and jalapeño horseradish sauce. The fries were nothing unique, but were very good and even better dipped into the sauces, and they stayed crispy throughout the meal. The steak was rubbed and seasoned nicely and had good flavor but they aren’t using super premium cuts here as there were definitely quite a few gristly and chewy bites. It was cooked to a nice medium though and had plenty of pink inside so at least it wasn’t super overcooked and the serving size was decent. The Chimichurri sauce had a lot of herby bright flavor and was heavier on the oil than vinegar. The jalapeño horseradish sauce was creamy and not overly spicy and was really good as well. I had an arnie palmer(lemonade tea mix) and that was tangy and good as well. All in all, I enjoyed the meal and would eat here again, even though it made for a bit of an expensive trailer lunch at almost $ 15.

Local paralysis artist Jared Dunten artwork in the door. Perfect steaks, just loud enough to not be too intimate, casual or dressy, this place is awesome. ALC has been fantastic every single time we have eaten there. My wife claims the filet is great, I am still trying to get past the ribeye and green chili cream corn. It’s not broke so why try something else ??? Reservations available, nice beer and wine selection with a top tier steak that needs nothing but a knife and a fork.

Fantastic steaks and wonderful staff. I’m just a tourist from Colorado where we have some wonderful beef… They know how to cook it here too. Surprisingly, the Sirloin was the most flavorful and tender compared to the Ribeye or Filet. Basically a fantastic, old school steakhouse. My only complaint would be the old, rickety wooden dining chairs are less then comfortable. Check this place out!!!

Had another amazing experience here. Brought my girlfriend for a nice dinner and excellent service. And was beyond pleased. Other restaurants need to learn a thing or 10 about how to have awesome service. Our waiter forgot his name(had 2 full tattoo sleeves) was great. I never once had to worry about our drinks being empty or our food being satisfactory. Thanks again for the wonderful night. Had a delicious ribeye and beer battered shrimp. Their steak sauces are worth the extra $$. Sushi appetizer was delicious.

We visited again last night because those margaritas have been calling my name. This is def my new fav spot for drinks. This time the place was full of reservations but they had tables by the bar that we could have dinner at. Our server was Michael Z. He remembered us from last time. Not sure if it was because I was raving about the chowder or because of my previous review or if it was cause I was laughing incredibly loud during our dinner last time. This time I had the chowder and Caesar salad. Their Caesar salad is it like the norm it has more of a clear dressing I would say. The chowder was delicious but definitely wasn’t exactly the same as last time. My husband got the sirloin cooked medium and it was to die for. I had a few bites and it was cooked perfectly. He ordered the garlic mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese. I had some of both and both were exquisite. I could probably eat that macaroni and cheese all day every day for the rest of my life. I wanted to say that the margaritas were the best part but that steak was pretty amazing. Two margaritas later I was happy as a clam, fully satisfied and ready to come back to try out their happy hour. Great service. See you soon ALC

Everything was good about the dining experience besides how my steak was cooked. Asked for med rare, got med well. I’m not one to complain much so it really wasn’t that big of a deal. Besides this error, everything else was perfect. Very attentive staff, had 2 servers for our party, water & wine were frequently topped off. Good dining experience overall.

Austin Land and Cattle, I have died and gone to steak heaven! Okay, I am a connoisseur of Steak places, a lover of the red meat arts and I have partaken of some of the best this Nation has to offer. I’ve had New York cuts in New York. I’ve had great western cuts like the T-Bone at Cattlemen’s in far West Texas. I’ve had Teppan cooked steaks so yeah, I know my steak. ALC is about as good as it gets. Step one, go on-line and make a reservation. That’s muy importante. Step two, dress up just a tad, you probably don’t want to show up in a ratty t-shirt and shorts here(I graded it as «Dressy» but remember, it’s a Austin kind of «Dressy»). No, it’s not pretentious, but just remember you are here to honor the red meat Gods. The place itself is clean and nicely appointed. One of the first things you’ll realize is that this isn’t your basic«steak and beans and spuds» kind of steak house. Neither is is an «eat this 6 pounds of fat and gristle and we won’t charge you» kind of place. You go to ALC to dine. Take someone with you to converse with, have a glass of wine a cocktail or a beer. Take your time. Have an appetizer or a soup. Have the spicy sirloin soup, I did and found it to be great as my companion found her sweet potato clam chowder. Then Ribeyes. Now you can have a ribeye plain, an excellent choice, but there are also numerous ways to dress it(or anything else) up. And they have other items on the menu besides red meat as well, but we didn’t partake of that. You can add veggies as well(I added the Green Chile Creamed Corn and a baked potato and yes, they were great as well). But the true star here is the meat, as it should be. We had terrific service, attentive without being cloying. The only negative was that we were so full that we couldn’t try their desserts. Oh well next time, no guts no glory.

Of all the restaurants in Austin, I chose this one for my birthday dinner. It was so good, that when my boyfriends birthday rolled around, he wanted his dinner here too. So we dined. I’ve had the NY Strip and the Filet. Both were amazingly tender, cooked perfectly and overall delicious. If both steaks were pitted against each other in a sunset, old fashioned duel, it’d be close, but the Filet would pull the trigger just a hair faster — a close victory. In true indulgence we had alcohol, appetizers, and dessert, too. They serve standard, big brand, but good beers — Sierra Nevada and Shiner included. The wine list is extensive and way beyond my taste level to dissect. I had the Smoking Loon Cab and it was great and at a good price. The Texafeller Oysters were so delicious, even if the toppings masked the flavor of the oyster. The Crème Brûlée was perfect although I couldn’t finish it all. Don’t forget about this Steakhouse when looking for good, red meat. It’s in a weird location and could be mistaken as a less remarkable restaurant, but it’s a real treat.

Our Segway tour guy recommend this place. Never trust your Segway tour guide’s recommendations when it comes to steakhouses. I literally have never tasted a worse steak than the one served at this place. Very dry, and the taste was like the steak was rotten. It was a very bad experience. Will never come back. Was looking forward to having a great dinner today, but it ruined my evening.

Great selection of items on the menus and a wide variety of steak. We both had the 10oz ribeye and one side of the Brussels sprouts and one Bacon Truffle Mac and Cheese. The steaks were cooked perfectly to order, but the sides were extremely underwhelming. The Brussels sprouts are shredded and have more of an essence of being steamed while the Bacon Mac had no semblance of Bacon or Truffle, just a very liquid like sauce surround elbow mac. Draft beer selection was only down to two and other cocktails /wine are very pricey.

Went here for my birthday dinner and it was really good. You can make a reservation online or call them. They have a few different areas of seating, there is the bar that has happy hour, then a few different sections for the dinning area. The steak I got was a filet and it was cooked to perfection. Melt in your mouth delicious, it comes with a side that you can choose from. The side was good but the star of the dish was the steak for sure. The pricing is great compared to the other steak houses in Austin, especially since you get a side. The bread are puffy little rolls, those were good as well. My boyfriend got the chicken fried steak, I tried some of it and I wouldn’t recommend it, it was too chewy for my liking, and not even in the same ball park as the steak. His mistake was coming to a steak house and not getting a true steak, medium rare. The mashed potatoes were really good though, I would recommend his side over my mac and cheese. The mac and cheese was a little too watery for me. We got the Cheesecake for dessert, it was on a Oreo crust, and it was good, I opted for all strawberries as my fruit. The plus side is they have their own parking lot, where you can park, unlike most of the Austin Downtown Steak houses, where the only option is street parking or Valet parking. This place is definitely much better than most other steak houses in Austin, not because of their parking, but the food and the competitive pricing. Overall I would highly recommend this steak house and definitely be returning here.

An absolute outstanding service with a smile that comes from heart! This is how a service in a steakhouse must be everywhere! Always at the right time but never too rushing. We came here for a Saturday evening dinner in a group of 5 and we loved it. The quality of the steaks was simply as it should be. I ordered a medium done Sirloin. And it was great. One side dish is included and well dimensioned. Ask to place the side dish on an extra bowl and not on the plate directly. That way you can share with your mates. The atmosphere is decent and reflects the price level of $$$. Surely a place to recommend for anybody who lives in Austin or plans to travel there!

Went here with my wife on a Friday night. We made reservations in advance, and I was pleased that we didn’t have to wait upon arriving(sometimes even with reservations, there’s still a wait). We were seated promptly. I ordered a 12 oz. top sirloin cooked medium well with asparagus and chimichurri; the entrée was reasonably priced as steaks go(~$ 30). The food came out after a short wait, and I thought the meal was quite good. The meat was cooked to specification, not nervy, high-quality; the side(included in price) was tasty and abundant. Overall it was a great dinner with the wife. I’ll definitely consider ALC next time I’m in Austin and down for a meal.

First time visit… came here for the happy hour at 5pm, unaware they recently changed the hours to start at 4pm. So, needless to say, the bar was FULL. No big deal, just ordered a drink and waited for a seat to open up…15 minutes later, jackpot! Ordered the steak sampler, steak fries and shaved brussels sprouts(not on HH menu)…the servers were SO friendly, helpful and timely with their visits. They gladly advised me on suggestions of steak sauces and veggie sides that wound up being on point. As for the steak, all cuts were perfectly cooked, tender and so freaking delicious! And for only $ 10ANABSOLUTESTEAL!!! Overall, the steak(around 8 – 10 oz) fries, veg side, and a beer, the total bill was around $ 25. That’s absolutely ridiculous for dinner at a steakhouse. I think I just found my new happy hour hot spot. :)

This is hands down the best steakhouse in Austin. No frills, just great steaks cooked to perfection, great martinis, and great service. Also, one of the best happy hours in town. Where else can you get a steak sampler that includes rib-eye, sirloin, and filet with a martini for $ 16? The happy hour menu is extensive, you could also get a burger and beer for under $ 10.

The ribeye I got was perfect. My friend got the porterhouse and it was cooked perfect as well. What took it over the top for me were the steak sauces that were offered. The steak was great on its own but the addition of the sauce took it to another level. Everyone has an opinion about steak vs. steak sauce, so I’ll let you debate that point.

This is the only place we want to go for our birthdays, anniversaries etc. I have never in my life had a better steak, and I am a meat snob. The sides are divine,(mac and cheese is my fave) and the bread is pretty amazing too. We split a caesar salad, and it was perfect, not too fishy and flavored just right. The drink menu was great too. I recommend the Old Fashioned. Consistently delicious food, and you will have dreams about the steak. Serious. Do it.

For some reason I went in with low expectations… thinking this would be sort of like a longhorn/outback type experience. While it was a typical steakhouse experience(great service, expensive steak), ALC definitely stepped up to the plate for a group of 15 guys who were drunk and less than easy to deal with. While I can’t comment for everyone, the overall feeling was that ALC delivered. It isn’t going to be that authentic/local experience that Austin seems to deliver around every corner, but it is that consistent restaurant experience from a seasoned team that you will get. Overall I would recommend it for a large group… if you are smaller, go try something more unique.

We were in town for a bachelor party and on the hunt for a good steak house that would take reservations for 10 guys on a busy Saturday night… and thus we found ALC. I suppose it’s a little off the beaten path, but that didn’t stop the crowds. Luckily we made reservations weeks in advance, so we were set. For dinner we tried the appetizer sampler and most of us ordered steaks. I went with the 22 oz bone in rib eye, which was delicious, but not the best I ever had. For the side I went with the truffle mac and cheese which were out of this world. Drink prices were surprisingly reasonable and overall I believe the bill worked out to be about $ 75 per man. Service was very attentive and the food came out pretty quickly, even though it was a busy night. This is definitely a good spot for a big hungry group.

This magical food truck pulled up outside of work and I didn’t know what to expect. After learning it was a part of Austin Land and Cattle, my expectations were set pretty high, and they did not disappoint. Burger was excellent, very juicy. I added some bacon and mushrooms and they did not skimp. Delicious skinny fries on the side, perfectly salted. I also decided to go with the quinoa salad. Man. That quinoa salad. Very fresh, with freshly chopped jalapenos and some red bell peppers to top it off. It was a nice side to the heavy burger and I was even able to save most of it for dinner later that night. The reason I didn’t go all the way with this one(5 stars) was mainly because of price. It wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t as food truck price friendly as I had hoped for a quick lunch. I’d definitely come see these guys again!

Bone-in Ribeye! I dreamed of eating steaks in Austin for a long long time and ALC steakhouse did not disappoint. The ambience was really interesting, the restaurant was definitely louder than I expected, but in a good, busy way. People ranged from completely casual to somewhat dressy. I liked the variety and how comfortable the restaurant made everyone feel. For my steak obsession, I tried both ALC and Perry’s in Austin based on Unilocal reviews and I loved the steaks at both, but loved the overall experience at ALC so much more. Perry’s is definitely more upscale and going for the fancy/snotty feel. Price point wise, ALC was a little more reasonable for Perry’s for a slightly less fatty piece of meat. If I had to choose one again, I’d definitely pick ALC. Reservations can be easily made via open table and were seated pretty much immediately. They also have a parking lot!

Disclaimer: This review is for ALC on Tour Food Truck I was going back and fourth with my rating between 3 and 4 and I decided it was somewhere in the middle. I tried ALC on Tour outside of Austin Beer Works on a Friday night. I ordered their streak frites and they were pretty good but I can’t say anything about the meal that really stood out to me. My buddy ordered the hot dog which actually looked quite good but this review is based off of my meal. The order comes with a half size to go container filled with(what I believe were unseasoned) french fries and a decent amount of steak on top with a side of one sauce of your choice. The whole meal just seemed slightly bland. The steak wasn’t bad but it also wasn’t special. Not sure if I would end up trying again but if I do, I will make sure to update my review.

In operation for over a year; how am I the first to review ALC on Tour? I encountered the food truck thanks to Mrs. Rooster’s high tech job as a different truck shows up near every weekday. The scenario works like this; I get a text every morning around the time I get off work at the orange box informing me of the days food truck options. Let me tell you how prepared this food truck is. I usually sit on a curb and eat with the wife or end up braving the tech wanding, badging, laser eyed crack security guard if I want to eat with my wife inside the her building. ALC’s truck brings tables and umbrellas! Think high bar tables and no chairs. I’m down with that; making an effort is half the battle for comfort. Driving from Drippin’ Springs to the 360⁄2222 area I was wondering about how I was gonna cut my steak with a plastic knife and fork. The thought of steaks off a food truck left me perplexed how they were gonna really pull this off. Also on the menu was a special of the day Thai beef salad along with options for non meat eaters like a quinoa salad and portobello sandwich. My New York Strip and Frites was pre-cut for my dining pleasure. The bites that I chose to cut with the plastic utensils sliced with ease. Add in my sauce option of the creamy jalapeño horseradish with the steak with the mound of crispy fries; wowza. The wife dined on fish and chips with a chipotle tartar. Well, I’m sold on a five star rating. Friendly staff along with real dining options from my first ever traveling steakhouse. More to come on my soon to be fresh list of food trucks that show up to entertain the tech savvy folks that bring home the big bucks in a bread winner category.

My BF had a new gig to celebrate and he surprised me with a trip to ALC. With all the hustle and bustle and madness of new restaurant openings, sometimes it’s great to go into a nice spot that does steak well, has outstanding service and isn’t so fussy or fusion-y. We started with two martinis and two appetizers: the oysters and the escargot. While the oysters weren’t my favorite(I’m not an oyster person anyway) the escargot was buttery garlicky amazingness. Especially when you soak up all the juice with that soft bread they serve you. Our steaks arrived perfectly medium rare, beautiful and with our sides of mac n cheese and kale salad. You know… because all things with balance, right? Turns out someone(him) snaked most of the the mac n cheese but since he was buying, I didn’t mind too much. We ended the meal with the pecan tart. This pecan tart had all kinds of sweet, hot, rich filling. We ate every morsel. Save room for this — seriously. A fantastic celebrate-a-new-job meal and beautiful(if spendy) evening. Will be back, of course, and for happy hour too.

Steak is definitely great, service and sides could be a little better. Came here last night with a party of 9 and made reservations around 5 pm the same day. When we showed up at our reservation time, the seating was incredibly prompt. We were seated in this cute niche with everything already set up. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a restaurant seat someone this quickly. But honestly for the prices the service should be that prompt. At ~$ 40 – 50 per steak entrée, a meal here does not come cheap. I ended up splitting the 30 oz porterhouse — medium rare — with my boyfriend. They start you with French bread rolls. This is some damn good French bread — warm with a great crust. I had to hold myself back so I wouldn’t fill up on the bread. The steak came out thick and juicy and delicious. It was definitely more rare than the standard medium rare but the flavors were great. As I was eating I thought to myself, now that is some good steak. Why the 4 stars instead of 5? First, once we were seated, the service got pretty slow. It took them around 20 minutes just to take our order. Our waiter also could have been nicer — he seemed a bit condescending. I also was not impressed with the garlic mashed potato side or the truffle Mac and cheese side. Something about the mashed potatoes was off — the texture didn’t seem right to me. The Mac and cheese was also more like Alfredo sauce than anything else. All in all a great place to get steak but definitely not an all the time place.
