If the Be More Pacific Truck shows up near your office, you are in luck. Be More Pacific is a Filipino food truck. Their modus operandi is to drive to office buildings that don’t have very good food options near them and sell the workers lunch. They have a rotation of three to five buildings that they migrate between during the business week. Under the right circumstances, they can be motivated to show up somewhere else. Given that where they intend to serve is subject to change, the Unilocaler is best advised to check their website first to find out their location plans for the week. Because they show up in «corporate deserts», office buildings out in the burbs with nice scenery and nothing good to eat … as soon as Be More Pacific shows up, they are the best restaurant in the neighborhood. Tons of workers show up, and the workers know what they are doing. They have a small but fine menu of Filipino specialties: lumpia, adobo, lots of variations on fried rice. Filipino food is mild. It is savory. It is good. The Filipinos are the kings of comfort food for Southeast Asia. Be More Pacific does not disappoint and the versions of the Filipino staples that come out of their truck are the real deal. Since Austinites demand heat on everything, they put an array of hot sauces and other flavorings on the condiment bench outside the truck The sweet and sour banana pepper sauce is good stuff … but you really won’t need any of those sauces unless you just gotta get your fire. You will finish your takeout box full and happy.

This is in the top 5 of food trucks in Austin. The spicy curry bacon fried rice is addicting. The chick adobo(sp?) is really tasty and a huge portion. I had their pork sliders for lunch today and I was surprised how flavorful the simple sliders were.

Be More Pacific may be one of the best names for a food truck in town. The good news is they also make some pretty quality food. I usually go for the specials; the Tosilog or the Adobo Chicken. I have tried other things as well, but I keep going back for these because they seem like they are a little better for me than the tots with sauce and pork all over them(although those tots are delicious as well).

Coconut curry bacon fried rice was great! Perfect spice and great unique flavor. Also the Lumpia is very tasty. Perfect variation from standard lunch fare.

Tried them a few weeks back when they visited our office complex. Tried the pancit and the lumpia. Both were REALLY good. I’d had lumpia before from a friend who makes them, but I’d never tried pancit before I loved it. The pancit portion was large, but this is not a complaint. LOL Definitely can’t wait to try the other items that they serve up. Super nice, friendly, and quick service.

I came to Austin Beer Works with some friends after work in search of a nice relaxing beer and after a couple hours, we started to get hungry. Be More Pacific was conveniently parked next to our table so we walked on over. I ordered the chicken fried rice(forget the special name for it) and my buddy ordered the tots. The meal is a good amount of food for the price and their special sauce is really flavorful. I do have to say that the tots were better then the fried rice. The truck does move a bit slower then other trucks I have been to, but when you are sitting at a place like ABW, there is no rush at all so I couldn’t complain about that. Overall, great meal and I would probably go back when I’m at ABW but there are also better Asian food trucks around.

Friends have mentioned that they like this place recently so I decided to give it another try. Things have definitely improved. The chicken adobo comes in a large portion! Be prepared!

I normally get the Chicken Adobo tacos, but it doesn’t look like those are on the menu anymore. Bummer! Today I ordered the Chicken Adobo special, which is their sweet and savory chicken(obviously more than they put on the tacos) on a bed of rice with some green onions on top. It was actually a huge serving! This time it was perfect, but I’ve had it once before and the rice was under cooked.. not today! It was awesome, I’m looking forward to having leftovers for dinner! Bonus is that they come to my work, of course. Minus one star for the missing tacos!

This place is all right. Not a bad lunch option, especially if they visit your place of work. The sweet garlic rice is just that: sweet and garlicky. It’s a robust flavor that carries itself through perfectly cooked rice and buried under mounds of protein of your choice. I got tofu. I’m always surprised with the shapes people make from a block of tofu. Anyway, large portions here for around $ 6. Almost 2 meals worth. I also tried the egg rolls. Nothing to write home about but they do have a good amount of filling if you can get past the grease. The pork dishes are supposed to be out of this world but I can’t vouch for that. I’d say its worth checking out once or twice, but that’ll probably do it.

5 stars for the people working the truck. They were super nice! 4 stars for the flavor of the pork in the pork dish I got(it was one of their specials that day and unfortunately I forgot the name of it, but the pork was sweet and tasty). 1 star for the garlic fried rice(I barely tasted the garlic, most of the bites it just tasted like plane rice, very bland) and 1 star for the ratio of pork to rice. It seemed like 1 part pork to 5 parts rice. I took a good amount of rice with each bite of pork and once the pork was finished there was still a ton of rice left and I was still hungry. Again, I can’t say how nice they are here and the flavors were there, I wish I could give them a higher rating. I will would try them again, but would try some of their other dishes.

Got the sweet garlic fried rice with chicken and a fried egg and man is my stomach happy! Rice is cooked perfectly and full of flavor, fried egg was done just right and it’s a huge portion! I’m always wary of trailer food having tiny portions but I ate half of this and I was sooo full, and trust me-I can eat! The guys in the trailer were super friendly. I will have to come back for some of that bacon fried rice. because, come on.

This is quickly turning into one of my favorite trailers. If you like bacon, this is your trailer. Seriously lots of bacon and lots of fried eggs going on. I’ve only tried their fried rice dishes and tacos, they are both superb. I don’t know about the noodles and egg rolls, but their fried rice and tacos are The only thing that is a downer for me, is the wait. They take foreverrrrrr. Like WAY too long for a trailer. Pick up the pace! If the line doesn’t seem too long, it’s definitely worth a shot.

I’ve tried this place 2 – 3 times, and while some of the fried rices are kinda alright, everything else(noodles, egg rolls), kills my appetite. I’m no Filipino food expert, but either 1) it sucks as a culinary tradition, or 2) Be More Pacific is a lame representative – I’m guessing it’s 2). For context, I’m someone who loves all-manner of asian food, be it vietnamese, thai, various types of chinese or japanese, etc., who grew up a place that has really great examples of all these(which, unfortunately, is not true of Austin), and who would dearly love to have more delicious asian food in my daily life.

I’m Filipino, and I’m dang happy to see a Filipino food cart in Austin. A while back, my roommates had went and tried the longanisa tots. To be honest, I wouldn’t order these — good flavors, but a poor twist. I’m a huge fan of longanisa. I eat it for breakfast. It’s a sweet, fatty, and savory sausage. The spicy plantain sauce and the tots were good. However, all of these components together didn’t really work out. It is tasty, but it didn’t really work out for me. However, I finally went to the cart in person a few days ago with some friends. They wanted dinner, so they ordered the pancit, the longanisa sliders, and a bacon coconut curry fried rice(forgot the exact name). I already ate, but I got several delicious bites of their food. Pancit — Basically egg noodles with veggies and a meat(your choice). I love it because it’s got a slight tang to it, and I’ve been eating this stuff as long as I can remember. When I saw this on the menu, I was extremely cautious; I mean, there’s absolutely no way that these will taste like home. I was proved wrong. For a moment, I forgot I was in Austin and was sitting in my family’s kitchen in Houston. It tasted exactly how my mom makes it. If you want legit Filipino cuisine, get this. My non-Filipino friends enjoyed this as well! Longanisa Sliders — Tasty. I expected slightly thicker patties, but the Hawaiian rolls were soft and sweet, acting as a nice compliment. It’s a good idea, but I think the bread: longanisa ratio here is too high. With more longanisa in a bite, this is a winner. The plantain chips that come with the sliders are a good addition. Bacon Coconut Curry Fried Rice — This isn’t really a Filipino dish, but man, it is good. It came with a fried egg on top, and it was just rich with flavors. The curry was somewhat spicy, and the rice was cooked appropriately. This is definitely another savory dish. In hindsight, I wish I got a few more bites, but this is delicious. All in all, the food IS good. It sounds like some of the fusion stuff has a few flaws, but with a few tune-ups(like a thicker longanisa patty), those will shine perfectly. However, some of the fusion dishes(like the previously mentioned fried rice) are already pretty solid picks, and the authentic Filipino dishes seem to be spot on. I point this out because items like the tots or sliders haven’t left a perfect impression on people. I encourage you to venture out and try that aren’t as familiar because I think that’s where BMP’s strength lies. The wait for the food wasn’t long at all(10 – 15 min), and the portions were pretty big. The prices are fair, and the people workin’ the cart are great folks. Really friendly, and they take time to explain some of the food/ingredients that are unfamiliar. It’s a shame that the crowd at the Volstead lounge wasn’t eating more of this. I know Filipino food is different and hasn’t completely caught on here. I want this place to succeed, and if you’re reading this, I’d encourage you to take a risk!(Seriously, tater tots with meat and sauce is NOT taking a risk, no matter how good it sounds.) Note: Their online menu isn’t completely up to date(doesn’t show the curry fried rice), so you’ll have to go there in person to see what all the menu choices are.

My girlfriend loves going to Volstead. I love going to any bar… so we went to Volstead. After a few cocktails I got hungry and what did I see but .Be More Pacific. I decide to give it a try. I ordered 2 orders of the sliders Longanisa and Adobo Chicken and an order of Bacon Fried Rice. It seemed like it took for ever for my food to be ready. The sliders weren’t bad, they were great either. I think the Adobo Chicken slider kinda tasted like the Crispy Fried Wantons on the Applebees menu. The Longanisa slider was the best thing I ordered but it wasn’t so great that I would go back just for more of it. The fried rice was so bad it almost made me cry. They should just called it steamed bacon rice. It wasn’t very fried at all. The rice was mushy instead of having that fried consitency it should have. Honestly it tasted like when someone who has never made fried rice tries to make it for the first time and doesn’t do any research. These guys seem to have some good ideas, the menu sounds excellent. Heck I even like the kitschy name, but they need better execution. You can skip eating here and you wont end up disappointed.

First of all, awesome location! You can get to the food truck from Hotel Vegas or Volstead. Be More Pacific is also veggie friendly, they will replace any meat with tofu. Sadly, the Longanisa Tots with tofu kind of disappointed me. The tots on top were GREAT! I loved the cheese, tofu, and spicy plantain sauce, but two-thirds of the tots didn’t have any toppings. The tots normally come with garlic pork sausage so it seems they didn’t realize more sauce was needed to compensate for the lack of meat juices. I really want to eat here again, but PLEASE make sure my six dollar tots have six dollars worth of toppings.

Trailer Food Tuesday, Part III It was time to get a little more adventurous. So I made my way over to Be More Pacific, the cool aquamarine-colored trailer cart that would turn my visit to the first Trailer Food Tuesday into a culinary trip around the world. I’d already had New England-inspired snacks and Japanese fusion… why not take a trip to the Pacific? We seem to want for nothing in Austin, so if someone were to ever inquire as to the nearest Filipino-American cuisine, we can honestly send them to Be More Pacific. I wandered over to find a few people milling about, with a group off to the side who seemed to be friends of those running the cart. They were all wolfing down some sort of meat that they were raving about. Curious, I read the menu. As soon as my eyes fell on bacon fried rice, I considered that a «yes». And as soon as I saw«pork dinuguan», I considered that a «yes» as well, not really knowing what it was. When I asked what it was, the woman taking my order explained it was pork shoulder and pork ear… simmered in spices and pig’s blood. Come again? That’s when everything started to move in slow motion. I looked slowly to my right, where their friends were still relishing the dish. A glance to my left revealed an older white couple, standing petrified as they read the menu more closely than I had. The woman gently tapped her husband’s arm and said warily, but reassuringly: «They have white rice, at least, dear.» I looked back at the woman in the cart, smiling, waiting patiently to write down my choice. So, it simmered down to this: Do I join the ranks of the bland people to my left, or do what I struck out to do – which was be more adventurous? I think you know the answer. I made my way back to my table, which at this point had become a family-style environment, so everyone was sitting together. I sat down and watched as kids drew with chalk and played hopsctotch; dogs were admired and fawned over by owners and strangers alike; I caught Quita Culpepper enjoying something in between her reports for the local news. And I prepared to eat my blood-stewed pork. A couple of dudes sat down who I’ll call Cute Bro #1 and Cute Ginger Bro #2. They had seen me inhale my Yume burger, so when I returned with my dinuguan, they both quite jovially asked me what I had chosen to eat next. I smiled and replied with«Pig shoulder and ear, stewed with spices and blood.» Cute Bro #1 went«Ahhhhhh, really?» and turned away, swigging his beer. Cute Ginger Bro #2 ignored me. Well, fine. Excuse me. Clearly, it’s not for everyone. And I didn’t want to have a random threesome with you guys, anyway. Did I like it? Yes! The meat itself was very tender. You taste the unique spices, not any blood. Subsequent research has revealed most Filipinos love this dish, and most other people will to(provided they don’t know what’s in it before they eat it). I fit neatly into the latter group, even though I did know. I’m glad to say this traditional Filipino dish was actually something I enjoyed. I made the right choice.(Their bacon fried rice was just OK.) Next time, I’m gunning for their«Longanisa Tater Tots»: crispy golden tots covered in melted gooey white cheese with garlicy sweet sizzling Longanisa sausage and spicy banana sauce. That sounds like… amazing, familiar, yet sophisticated ethnic drunk food. We shall see. I say give them a shot. Just be pacific about what you’re ordering.(What? I couldn’t help it…) 3 Stars.

I was drawn here after a long night out on 6th, and it was a positively pleasant experience! The girl working at the front was busy taking orders but wasn’t too busy to smile! She was seriously like the cutest thing. Did I just say that last sentence? yeah. I even tried to take a picture of her, but it was blurry because I tried to hurry. I didn’t want to make her feel too awkward! hahaha! Anyway, enough with the girl crush. We ordered the tots and the quesadillas. The quesadillas came with this slightly spicy creamy green sauce. It was so good that after I spilled it on the ground I happily continued to dip my quesadilla in it. The quesadilla innards were fantabulous. It contained pork and cheese and the flavor was just really really good. I’ll go eat some now… ahhhajdhafdsjflasdf!!!, it’s kinda like a smoky, cheesy flavor. There are also a few greens inside that add a nice crunch. AND there were leftovers! That’s probably the first time I’ve ever had leftovers when going on drunk rampages. The tater tots were fine, they were covered in something special and I really don’t know what it was. I wouldn’t order them again, but that’s because I’m not a huge tot fan. Fun place!

Bacon and fried egg makes everything better. If you have an open wound, just rub some bacon and fried egg on it to watch miracles happen. Until Be More Pacific, I hadn’t even thought of putting the two together in fried rice. Does this count as an invention? If so, these truckers need to be up there with the likes of Alexander Graham Bell and Thomas Edison. Consuming chunky cuts of pork is a masterful way to end the night after an inebriated night in Austin.
