I’ve been here a few times now to feel out the consistency and quality… unfortunately both have not been to par, each time things just didn’t jive. The«owner/chef» doesn’t cook the food and hasn’t properly trained«T» in the kitchen how to boil shrimp or crawfish, among other simple LA techniques. They have decent quality seafood, but just can’t execute… both items this time were way over-cooked! Service sux for the most part, they still use a dinosaur type«square for credit» after five minutes of two employees trying how to figure it out? When there isn’t pretty cool, funky soul bands playing, the music is shitty hood/gangster rap with many of the patrons inside singing along out loud… east side crap trying to hold a spot based on NOLA staples with no backbone foodwise or management style to represent… don’t waste your time or money… too bad because they’re nice folks, but the business ethic just isn’t there!!! Check out the newly opened LA1CAJUNANDCREOLE at St Rochs bar at East 6th& Pedernales… super fresh, cooked properly and affordable like it should be!!! Boiled spicy peanuts and savory beignets… just to start!

A 9/10, IMHO. The owner, Darryl(?) is from NOLA and was a cool guy to chat with. I liked that they had a live band playing, which was cool to see. We ordered a couple big Lone Stars, which were fairly inexpensive; However, the small margaritas in a can which you buy at HEB for $ 1 seemed to be a bit overpriced at this bar. This was our first time chilling at bars in East Austin, so we’re glad we stopped by! I wouldn’t mind returning back in the future. Sadly, the bar a couple doors down seemed to be quite hipster-ized, so I’m hoping this place doesn’t become like it.

I really wanted this place to be great. It’s kind of a divey joint and seemed pretty authentic. It wasn’t. Maybe it was just an off night but things started weak with the crawfish and never really improved. The crawfish were small, which given the time of year is acceptable. They were also pale red and squishy. Maybe they had been frozen. Who knows, but they weren’t very good. The Thai chicken wings were okay, a little on the small side and far more generic in flavored compared to Shady Grove or Green Mesquite. I had the ½ fish ½ oyster basket, which was okay but I ordered the fish blackened and it came out fried. The coleslaw seemed like it had been sitting out for a while at room temperature and the fries were luke warm. My buddy ordered crawfish etoufee that was also luke warm. Service was slow but the girl at the counter was definitely friendly. All in all I think 2 stars is pretty generous. I hope they make it but I doubt I’ll go back.

I really enjoyed eating here, the food was great and the service too… of course we were almost the only ones in the restaurant. I came here for lunch with my parents and boyfriend and I would love to come back!

Came here with my friends after hearing good things about this place. The poboys and gumbo were all good but the price seems to be $$, which is more than I expected. However, do come here if you are looking to get Creole cooking. I love supporting local businesses and I think these guys have what it takes to start a creole place. Great TVs to watch sports but still limited space overall.

Not sure how they got such good ratings before!!! For $ 14.95 I ordered the ½ fish & ½ oysters dinner. The portion was tiny! A piece of bread, 1⁄8 of a cup of coleslaw, 2 fish sticks(Yes, fish sticks!) and 4 breaded oysters that were the size of nickels tossed on top of a handful of shoestring fries! They must be running out of food! And to top it off they coated all in salt-even the bread! YUCK!!! Never going back!!!

I was visiting from Houston and was craving a Cajun po’boy. Stumbled upon this little gem through help. It’s on the east side and is a total dive… So don’t expect to much. HOWEVER… The food was amazing! My hubs and I got the po’boys which are larger than life. My friend who lives in Austin got the fried shrimp/fish platter. Both dishes were enough to feed two!

The NOLA Catfish Po’Boy was excellent, crawfish Étouffée was good… The fries were fresh & service though slow was very friendly!!! The Big Easy feel!!! The Étouffée(1 pint) seemed kind of pricey for the serving size!!! Will stick to Po’Boys next time since this is not fine dining. But no complaints for the food!!!

First things first, the food was good. The restaurant is pretty hole in the wall and not the greatest environment, but that wasn’t a big deal. A lot of great restaurants have sub-par décor. The service? Slow and overall poor. When we walked in we had to find someone to help us. Food took a very long time and wait staff took FOREVER to do anything. It took them 20 minutes to get us our check. My friend’s order was supposed to come with coleslaw, but it didn’t. After he asked about it, he was told they were out of coleslaw. Upon leaving we saw the waitress serving coleslaw to another table. My order was incorrect, and instead of being served a platter, I was served a side dish. I was still charged for a platter. I ended up paying $ 25 and I left hungry. What did I order? Side of shrimp, a plate of(cold) étouffée. And I split gumbo with my friend. I paid $ 25 for this meal.

It’s just ridiculous that this place has been open for one month and there are exactly two Unilocal reviews for the business. Come on Austin Unilocalers! Step up your review game. Big Easy Bar & Grill(BEBG) isn’t really«new» to Austin. For those who enjoyed the Original New Orleans Po-Boy and Gumbo Shop(and it appears 65 Unilocalers enjoyed it to the tune of 4.0 shining Unilocal stars), don’t worry. Your neighborhood Cajun restaurants has simply changed locations. The menu isn’t necessarily extensive, but there are enough options to keep you entertained. We had fried white fish(not sure what type of white fish, but it was delicate and not as «fishy» tasting as catfish), fried shrimp, and amazing fried oysters that paired well with their tartare sauce. We had ladles of gumbo, crawfish etoufee, and a wonderfully smoky preparation of red beans, rice, and sausage. They had some blackened oysters covered in parmesan cheese on special so we decided to spontaneously grow second stomachs and eat some of that as well. Everything was solid, and the fried fish, fried oysters, and red beans, rice, and sausage were items I would certainly order on repeat. BEBG is also a music venue, but theirs musicians didn’t show up on Sunday night. That said, it works just fine without the live music because the fine Cajun food stole the show. Service and customers are very friendly; I felt very much at home in the bayou right here in Austin, Texas. I’d recommend for those interested in good Cajun food outside of Louisiana.

Ok so I was born and raised on the bayou and let me tell you, this place is totally legit. I’m surprised that there is only 1 review for this gem of a place. The gumbo, étouffée, red beans and rice and the seafood platter was to die for. If you want to walk out craving more, then come here. NOLA vibe and delish eats. You won’t go wrong.

Awesome and authentic New Orleans cuisine! I had the crawfish boil and the fried fish plate. The red beans and rice was amazing!!! I will definitely be returning.
