Brake Check

Towed my car there. Brake pads were gone. Was charged $ 600. The brakes started squeaking, scratching and making all kinds of horrible noises the very next day. There were grinding sounds when brake suddenly… I feel like I was totally ripped off. If you take your car here, do NOT talk to Philip Reyna.

I took my car to a Houston location originally, twice, for my brand new brake pads squealing (purchased and installed elsewhere, new rotors too). I told him it just started after having these installed so it must be the fronts. But no, he tells me it’s the rear and pads needed replaced and rotors turned, so I did it. The next day they are squealing again so I took it back and they turned the front rotors. A week later my brakes start grinding so I take it to this location and they told me the brake pads were defective and needed new ones, as well as rebuilding my caliper, so I did it. Two days later they are grinding yet again so I take it back and they turn the rotors once again, now my brand new rotors need replaced and I still have grinding. I too was leery of taking my car to a brake shop but unfortunately I don’t know anyone here who could do them for me. Needless to say I am livid, after $ 600 and my brakes are still grinding, I feel everything they have done was unnecessary since I have issues that I didn’t have prior to going to Brake Check. Take your car anywhere but here!

Very friendly, they where about to close and still helped me out. Check my alignment no charge as advertised.

Great customer service, not just a sale but what I needed and offered professional opinions

I took my new SUB in for a Balancing for the very 1^st time. And after 3 hours they told me one of my tires are bad and THEY SCRATCHED all 4 of my rims. So they told me don’t worry we will fix it for you so great I believed them. Now 2 months later they still never got back to me and the manager ignores my texts and calls.
So if you want them to damage your car then go for it.

On Sat. Sep10, 12pm I brought my car into BrakeCheck to get my brakes serviced only to have them tell me 5hrs. later their sending my car to a dealership to be fixed.
Without any effort on their end I find it extremely irritating that I have to call the Research Blvd. Location to get any sort of update about my vehicle which they’ve had now for 3 days & counting for a standard brake & rotar repair…
Not to mention the inconvenience I’ve sufferd being stranded in Austin Tx the entire weekend missing Work, School etc… I’m disappointed in the lack of curtosey professionalism…

Not Trustworthy! I have a long story but am too frustrated to explain. If you use this place, check everything they do.

Came in here for a brake sensor issue ($ 20 fix) and the guy at the front desk tried to scare me into buying a new set of brakes, when these are just fine. He lied to me telling me that they’re not the right breaks, when I confronted him about what’s not right about them he said that they’re not oem. Which means nothing, even more absurd is he wanted to replace my non oem with his non oem. When I asked him to just replace the sensor, which he himself admitted is a $ 20 job, he lied and said that he can’t replace the sensor since these brakes are non oem. So I go to BMW, pay them a little more and sure enough they fixed the brake sensor, and confirmed that the brakes were in fact oem, and had no issues and plenty of life left.
Also while sitting there I witnessed this same front desk guy using similar tactics on other customers, mostly clueless women about how they need to change this and that, otherwise it would be very unsafe for them to drive.
I’d recommend to stay away from this place!

I’m always a little weary of mechanics and shops. From the first phone call to the customer service at the shop was amazing. Everyone was so friendly. They showed me my brake pads and the severe wear on my rotors. It helped me understand that the work really needed to be done. They were very sweet and worked with me on the price. I left a little poorer but suprisingly in a really good mood. I would definitely recommend this place!

Friendly and fast service, I was driving by on a saturday, long overdue for an oil change. Pulled in and expected a wait due to how busy they looked, but they were able to get me in for an oil change immediately. Brian (I think that’s what his name is) was really friendly and easy to talk to, made the visit very mellow. I’ll definitely be taking my car back for the additional repair work it needs.

These guys are fabulous! As a female I am always a little weary, but when I come here they actually show me what is wrong with my car! Always give me fantastic service and I actually look forward to coming to see the guys. Would absolutely recommend this location to everyone!

Something changed, Poor business sense.
Sadly this place isn’t as great as it was as recently as July 2014, when I brought my Infiniti in for brakes. The guys there were all extremely friendly, automotive enthusiasts (the exact type of people you want working on your car), very helpful and shared lots of information about additional services like lowering my vehicle and what all was needed, how they would help etc. After my visit I went I knew I found my shop for life, for anything regarding suspension, brakes and alignments for all of my vehicles. I became a referral source for this location telling anyone I knew to go there for any of the above services.
Fast forward to today when I called to have new brakes put on my wife’s ’12 Honda, and a conversation with Brian. What started the issue is a «policy where you cannot bring in factory OEM pads and MUST use the brake check pads», which is where the rub began. This was exactly what I did with my Infiniti and the guys couldn’t have been cooler to deal with. I can understand if a new policy was put in place, or changes occur — I support businesses wanting to run as they choose — but, be service oriented and not a combative, argumentative manager. At each question I asked to gain understanding or find a way to bring my business, Brian was combative, engaged in an argument via phone — suggesting I was requesting «unethical behavior of him» by asking him to consider my business and use the factory parts I had, I suggested waiving the warranty to alleviate the concern for me bringing in my own pads — more combative response.
Sadly, this location lost my business and referrals. If you want brakes done — lots of options out there and I’m sure for many this place may work fine — but don’t expect quality service. However, If you are a car lover and care about the quality of your vehicle and prefer open, collaborative service — explore another place.

Can’t trust no one nowaday. Everything seem to be broken and need replacement. Lol please take my money

I brought my recently purchased 1964 Chevy Corvair to this Brake Check because it was not stopping well. I was somewhat worried if they could work on classic cars but Chris reassured me they could. David there knows older model cars very well, he did everything he could to find all the parts the car needed and I felt went over and beyond to get the brakes working properly. I would definitely use this place for my newer and older cars!

Needed to go back to correct the pad replacement they did. Takes too long I think. 3+ hours for pad replacement. Wouldn’t go back if I can help.

I woke up early to beat the crowd.
Called to see if they were busy. They were not.
Drove the opposite direction from my work to find or the technician needed for my alignment hasn’t shown up and I could even get an estimate on when he’d be arriving.
I wish I had a job that I could just ignore hours on the door and show up whenever I wanted.

I went in January and got my rotors resurfaced, brake pads changed, and a few other things that were recommended I should do to «stop the brakes from squealing».
1) My brakes never stopped squealing
2) A few months later my car was vibrating every time I hit the brakes
From the very beginning I was hesitant about going to Brake Check because they fit the profile of a shop that will take advantage of you. I recently talked to a brake specialist and they confirmed my suspicions (warning me that these types of shops usually use cheap parts that won’t last long and will keep you coming back for repair). I was also told that my rotors should have been replaced rather than resurfaced, another thing they do to keep you coming back.
In the end, I went with another brake specialist and got my rotors REPLACED and new brake pads for LESS than what I paid with Brake Check.

Brake Check has an easy system of setting up appointments online that also gets you a good discount depending on their availability. Easy system to use. When I arrived they were there to help right away as per my appointment time. It was quick service about 1 hour for my front brakes and they made some great recommendations that I’ll have to go back for. They even put air in my tires because they noticed it was low! David, the manager was very helpful with the whole process even letting me know how certain parts worked.

DO NOT go here on a Sunday morning for an alignment. The service technician performing the alignments seemed hungover and showed little motivation for the work he was performing. Luckily I bought a lifetime alignment and went to another location the next day to find out my camber was out, and there was slack left in my tie rods causing me to have steering wheel play.
What I will give this location is a bit of credit for the guy behind the counter, very patient with an elderly lady that came in behind me, and was very courteous to all customers and employees. Didn’t have a problem answering questions or listening to concerns. He was top-​notch, and I’m sure the alignment service was just a bad day on the technician’s part.

I had my brakes replaced here about 1 ½ years ago. Their price was in the ballpark and their service was great. No problems at all.
Last month I returned because the emergency brake was not working — with it on, the cars still rolls when it’s in Drive. When I drove in w/​o an appointment around 4:30 PM, the car was on a lift within 5 minutes. Two guys worked on the car, pulled all 4 wheels, removed various brake parts, tightened up the cables leading from the emergency brake to each rear wheel and reassembled everything. All of this took at least ½ hour, probably more. Price: $ 20.
Unfortunately, the car still rolled so I made an appointment to replace the cable going from the emergency brake to the passenger side, rear wheel. Estimate: $ 350 (it’s a BMW) Dropped the car off the next morning and got a call from Brake Check a few hours later. They have the car up on the lift and the labor to run the cable would mean removing a good portion of the exhaust system. Although this was included in the estimate, a lot of the bolts and harnesses holding the exhaust in place are totally rusted, necessitating lots of extra labor to remove it. About an additional $ 300 for labor.
Just Brakes could have started the work before calling me which would have pretty much steered me into approving the additional work. However, they were very honest and called me before any work was done. Kudos to you, Brake Check.
