Food is okay nothing spectacular. They add grated parmigiana cheese on everything like they they have barrels of the stuff in the back! Salad add some cheese, meatballs lets add cheese, entrees add more cheese… and it looks like pre-grated cheese?

easily the worst pizzaria i’ve dined at, ever. my girlfriend and i were the only customers in the ENTIRE premises both when we dined in at 5pm and when we returned before closing ~9pm to grab my c.c. that i’d forgotten. after 1 experience here, i’m not surprised why. when you consider exactly how much great pizza there is in austin, everything here is fucking expensive and you’d know there’s really no reason to ever ever eat here. expensive, AND the pizza was horrible. to be fair, any time you order a gluten-free pizza, you’re going to be receiving a pre-made crust that very likely isn’t made in-house. so in that regard, i can’t really say i’ve tried ‘their’ pizza. with that in mind, pint house pizza(a few blocks away) uses the same e.x.a.c.t gf crust. except that at pint house, it’s $ 6.75 instead of $ 11. oh wait, it’s an additional FIVE dollars for the gluten free crust. so I’m paying $ 16 when I literally could have bought two and left a nice tip if I’d gone to pint house instead. was it at least good? No. There were so many ingredients piled onto the pizza that it didn’t cook properly — cheese was not even melted, ugh! i really felt like eating some penne so i ordered the chipotle penne pasta. it was great that they had a gluten-free option for the pasta as well. yay! oh wait — because I substituted gluten free pasta, my PENNE pasta arrived w/SPAGHETTI noodles instead. server was nice, but definitely should have mentioned that before hand. it wasn’t a great surprise to find out that I’d paid extra to get something I didn’t even want. oh – and you know how i mentioned that i had to return a few hours later to grab my card? and that i was literally the ONLY customer both times? my server asked for my id before giving it back. WTF? lol.

I eat lunch here on average once every 2 weeks. I recently brought my sister who was visiting from New Orleans. She loved it! The great thing about Brick Oven on 35th is the atmosphere. It is immediately calming to sit in their cozy house-like restaurant or on the patio. They have a great wine list and the staff is knowledgable about the entire menu. I’ve had both pizza and pasta here, but cannot say enough about the spinach lasagna! It comes out bubbling with a wonderful layer of broiled cheese(you know that perfect slightly brown melted cheese) that just comforts the soul. Still hands down my favorite restaurant in Austin!

Simple rules here. Best plain ol’ Spaghetti w meatballs you’ll find. Same for Margherita pizza. It’s great as is, but if you want to take it to absurdly good, ask for olive oil and drizzle that on top. This place is great for families. It was the first sit down restaurant we ventured into after some time away from all places without a playground with our almost 3 years old crazy guy. We called it «family date night» and everything went great… mostly due to the great service(our guy was still verging on crazy). The kids food was brought out first(huge help!!) they have paper table covers and crayons for distractions. There is a sereate room with two tables that they let us sit in, so we didn’t have to worry about disturbing other diners. As a result, we tipped really well and have been back several times since. As for wine. I got the pinot from the Russian river valley in California. it was pricey for me – $ 10 a glass, so I wasn’t sure it would be worth it, but the pour was very generous and wow was it amazing. Fresh and dry and smooth. SOGOOD. Couldn’t recommend it more.

What a great place to have a nice dinner and a reasonably priced bottle of wine. We love the small homey feel of this house, now restaurant. Wood fired oven, where they even bake fresh bread per order, and deliver hot, to your table with an nice olive oil dipping sauce. I’ve sampled most items from the menu over the past 10 years– Pizza(fantastic), strombolis’, Pasta entrees, Lasagna(comes from the wood fired oven piping hot) and great appetizers. Not fancy, not pretentious. Just good italian fare at a fair price and prepared from scratch.

Best Italian food in Austin, IMO. Everything, including the noodles, are made fresh in house. The meatballs are a delicious blend of pork and beef, the spaghetti sauce is made from scratch and delicious, the breads are fresh-baked. The only thing missing from the menu is chicken parm, but I can live without it. And perfect for my gluten-free wife, this place has gluten-free options for almost every single dish, including the pastas and pizzas. We will continue to frequent this place because it’s awesome and they do nice promotions on Unilocal and through their rewards program.

Arriving at the restaurant we were greeted promptly and given 5 star service. Our salads and bread were fresh and dressing made in house was flavorful. My basil pesto fettuccini with cream sauce was on point with the perfect essence of basil and cream to balance one another out. I definitely recommend this place over Gusto’s to any and all who enjoy the dinning experience and ambiance.

I was so pleasantly surprised by this place after having been somewhat disappointed with the«other» Brick Ovens in town. We had a delicious pizza here. Service was swift. A little warm inside if you’re here on a summer day, but it’s an older building, so that’s to be expected. The bread beforehand was delicious. If you’re going to hit a Brick Oven in Austin, this one is heads and tails above the others! We would absolutely return.

I had a Margherita pizza here for lunch and it was excellent. The crust was perfect thin, with a nice crunch, and baked just right. High quality mozzarella cheese and tomatoes. I will be back to check other options. When I went they had a $ 3 off lunch or dinner offer as well. Parking is tight and the street can be busy but it’s a cozy spot. Check them out

The food was delicious. I had the eggplant Parmesan while my friend had the chicken Alfredo. The bread is really fresh. We ate all of it. The waitress was kind of rude and not too accommodating. I do like the environment. It’s cozy and quiet. It’s also a good place to bring for a date or something. I will definitely be coming back here.

My family of 5 went here last night to celebrate my graduation and I really couldn’t be happier at my experience. They worked with my husband and helped him set up our table with the flowers he bought me, and even arranged the flowers in the vase for him. Nice touch. They welcomed us with open arms and our service was great. My favorite part of the night was the food! We had the rosemary chicken lasagna, spinach and artichoke lasagna, spinach ravioli, shrimp pasta salad, and a strombolil. Everything was WONDERFUL. It was exactly what I hoped it would be, savory, delicious, and awesome. I will most definitely be back to this restaurant.

We came for the reviews and will be back for the food. We’ve tried lots of pizza in Austin, but I think this one is our favorite so far. The Great: Food — stand up good food, fresh ingredients. Tried the basil pesto pizza and hawaiian with prosciutto, so good. The crust was so light and crispy with a perfect amount of softer dough chew you’d expect from a legit pizza crust. Mozzarella garlic bread was overflowing with delicious cheese, and the bruschetta had really nice flavors. The meatballs you could tell had been made there and were fresh, the marinara was delicious — well developed flavor without being so over manipulated that you lost some texture. Salad was also nice and fresh. Staff — Super sweet. Our server, Lauren, was patient and attentive. Kept our drinks filled and checked in on us frequently. The Good: Location — In a great part of town I visit frequently and not too far from Downtown, Mount Bonnell, or Hyde Park. Parking is a little tight and getting in and out can be dicey depending on traffic, but it’s worth it for the good pizza. Inside — Cute, eclectic, multiple rooms as it used to be a home, adorable outdoor patio. It’s not overly loud inside but we weren’t there during a huge rush so I’m not sure what the noise level is like during busier times. This will likely become a spot we bring visitors for lunch as well to show them how awesome Austin pizza can be!

My dad came to visit valentines day weekend and we tried to go to a couple restaurants but they all seemed to be booked or busy beyond belief. While we were driving back, I saw this place on Unilocal and decided to give it a place. It all started right when we go there. They have two parking spots in the front of the restaurant, we got one! So far so good. We were seated right away and promptly served. Not only did they have a vegan pizza, but it was actually pretty good! It could have used a bit more«spicy» since it is called the Spicy Vegan but we were not disappointed. I ordered the chipotle penne pasta which came out nice and hot and was a good size meal. Our waiter made sure to fill our glasses throughout the night and made sure that we had no problems with our meal. Overall great experience and will definitely be back.

Let me begin with this. There are not many choices For Italian restaurant in this area, but this place def had its charm and character. It’s very local and small but you get the warm feels when you get in. Food is great In a very reasonable price. We ordered a ten inches margarita pizza, it’s great thin crust and very stuffy toppings. Except it’s a bit too garlicy. The meatballs with sphagatti is great portion comes with a side of salad as well. The service is alright. The waiter we had was not very professional in my opinion. He was rushing our check, and barely gave us water refills or even checked on us. Hope that will improve. I’d recommend to everyone who likes local feel comfy dine in italian restaurant in this area!

My husband and I went here long ago on a date back when we lived near UT. I remember it being cute and romantic and in an old house, with difficult to find parking around the back. When I returned this time, a decade later, to pick up to-go food for an anniversary surprise, I found it unchanged. In the cold light of day, it seemed a little run-down, with a very dark interior and mismatched art on the walls, old tables, etc. We had the Fettuccine Alfredo and the Spinach Ravioli, along with bread and side Caesar salads, and tiramisu for dessert. The desserts are not made there; they buy them from Russel’s Bakery just down the street. The food is still pretty tasty, and if I were around there again I might check it out for old time’s sake, but these days there are so many new and exciting things to try that Brick Oven on 35th(not to be confused with the Italian chain restaurant located on Red River, etc.) might get lost in the crowd.

Not sure how to start this review. I know: what I liked. I liked that Brick Oven had an extensive gluten-free menu because one of my co-diners has Celiac. I really liked the garlic bread; it had tons of garlic flavor, though it did not look like it would. I think maybe they rub it on top, which is the best way to make garlic bread, because there was no ugly garlic cream on top or anything. Great stuff. I liked the Spinach Artichoke dip. Getting it meant I ate way too much bread, but that was my fault. I liked the goat cheese that came on top of my pizza; I got the Trentino, which has goat cheese, romano, and prosciutto. But then there are the things I did not like: the rest of the pizza, for example. There was WAY too much mozzarella cheese, as in I ripped it off in gobs. And the prosciutto tasted old; it tasted like old ham smells. That wasn’t good. Another diner said it reminded her of how her vomit tastes. I have no comment about that. I would not go that far, but overall the pizza, the main attraction, was severely lacking. I guess the crust was OK. But it was so only OK that I can’t remember anything about it. At a brick-oven pizza place, the crust should be the star. Any memorable brick-oven pizza experience has left me craving more chewy greatness. This just left me uncomfortable and desiring something else to wash the old-ham taste from my mouth. Also, the parking situation is pretty poor. There is only one side alley to exit/enter, and it felt treacherous. Maybe that isn’t their fault. But if they can’t expand it, they should just ditch the parking for non-employees. I think there was another lot next door. Use that one if you go, which I can’t recommend.

I was so impressed by their gluten free pizza. The fact that it was gluten free was awesome, but it was just plain good. Delicious sauce and toppings and cheese! What is it about pizza that makes you want it every time you think of it? Geeze. This place is also really cute inside and has great servers. Would be a great date place!
