I woke up this morning and remembered that I drank five beers over the course of me being there(luckily I had a sober driver) and I was also pleasantly surprised that those beers cost me $ 14.50, plus tip. The bartender was friendly and fun and the free popcorn was an added bonus. This place is a dive bar, but it’s not like a dirty 6th street dive bar. I’m sure when it gets really busy it gets divier, but overall I was glad we came here. I would like to come back in the future, too. It’s neat to think about how the surrounding area has changed since Chester opened the bar 30+ years ago(from what I heard it was that long ago). And as they say, every hour is happy hour here!

As legit Austin locals dives get cleaned up or bought out or both, C Hunts remains. Beer only, cash only, efficient servers, dominos and an open air, no kids allowed, no frills awesomeness. Free popcorn, of course. It’s a place where people from all walks of life co-mingle happily. I heard recently that Chester passed. It’s pretty damn sad but i hope they can stay true to his memory and vision for the place. I forget that it’s so close but I’ll come back more often to spend a whopping $ 16 on buckets of beer and pour a little out for Chester.

They now allow dogs again! Yippee! Wait staff is super, super friendly and sweet. Girls are nice and seem genuine. Chester has always hired really nice staff. They said he has been out due to his health. This is surprising. As long as I’ve been coming here(many, many years). Chester was always walking the tables, telling jokes, or playing dominoes with the regulars. He is 89 years young and hope he comes back soon! :)

Chester turns 89 next month. Big b-day party with two bands. Wish I could remember the date. .. :-/I know, I’m a lotta help, right? C-Hunt’s is one of less than a handful of remaining original dive bars — Ginny’s being the other notable original dive bar. Play dominos. Feed the jukebox. Have a cold beer — or a bucket. Come as you are. Plenty of room for ALL of your friends to sit on the picnic tables under the grapevine roof. Cash only.

My favorite true to life Texas IceHouse. Beer is so cold and you can play washers outside or sit inside and watch sports and listen to music!

Went here last night and this place is definitely 5 stars if you judge it for what it really is — a dive biker bar. This is an old school Austin bar playing old school country and serves beer only. It’s also cash only but I imagine that helps keep their beer prices low. I had Real Ale’s Pale Ale for $ 3; husband had Lonestar for $ 2.50. C-Hunts is an open air building with a big outdoor seating area. The inside is lined with tons of beer neon signs, banners and flags. It’s gives it an unique ambiance. The bar where you order beer has an ice trough where they place you beer so it doesn’t get hot as you pay or sitting at the bar. Outside has a large patio covered in an awesome tree canopy. Literally, there is trees to the left that they have grown to cover the whole dang thing and it’s super cool. Remember it is a dive biker bar. No need to dress up here. The bikers were friendly. Heck, they even helped an 70+ year old woman back out of the parking lot, which was quite a show. She couldn’t maneuver without almost hitting the bikes, so one guy politely backed her car out for her. Hilarious. Also pool tables are $ 1. And they are dog friendly. We will definitely be back.

The bar has an ice trough to set your beer in to keep it cold while you sit. ‘Nough said.

I went here once in 2004, and had a ball. It’s sort of like going to Ginny’s Little Longhorn on Sundays for chicken XXXX bingo and listening to Dale Watson do his roackabilly thing. It’s more than just a dive, it’s an experience. Lots of great people watching. And the owner is always there, ready to swap a dirty joke or play a game of dominos. He’ll be 89 years old on June 1st, 2015. Keep on keeping on, chunts.

This place is what it is and nothing more. It’s a great beer joint with a cool trough at the bar for your beer to stay chilly. The outdoor seating is plentiful and the parking is also adequate. Definitely worth visiting if you’re in the neighborhood. They don’t have food.

C Hunts is the place to be! Friend and I were heading to Austin Beer Works after work one day thinking they were open at 4pm but we found out that they actually open at 5pm so one of the brewers at ABW suggested C Hunts so we thought we would check it out. We walk in with out dress shoes and button down shirts and could not have been more over dressed for this bar but the lady behind the counter was unbelievably friendly. They also have some of the best beer prices in all of Austin. C Hunts is pretty hidden and probably considered a «local» bar but still very inviting. Most of the bar is outdoors with an inside consisting of a few tables and a pool table. Assuming you can find the bar, I highly suggest you take the trip. Well worth it.

Great place to hang out after work, and knock back a few buckets of beer bottles with your coworkers/friends. Atmosphere is relaxed, and the beer is fairly cheap, although it went up a bit in price recently. A sign of the times!

How can anyone possibly not like C-Hunts?!? This place is awesome! Very Texas feel. Nothing special at all. Just order bottle beer, throw you tops on the ground with the others and go talk and have a good time. Beer is cheap and they even had Ballast Point IPAs for the beer snobs like me, or just get a Bud Lt.lol. Whatever you drink enjoy it here and have fun!

I have lived within a few miles of this place for over six years and had somehow never even heard of it before last night. Well, consider it love at first sight. The bar is totally off the beaten path on a side street near the intersection of Burnet &183, tucked in among office parks and small industrial sites. There is plenty of parking out front, and a nice outdoor seating area with several picnic tables and misting fans. The interior is a bit worn down. According to the bartender, it has been open for about fifty years, originally as a meat market, then as a bar since about a decade ago. No worries though — you’re there to drink cold beer and relax, not to survey the interior. And cold beer is where this place earns its five stars. The bar has a built-in trough that runs its full length, which gets filled with ice periodically so the patrons have a place to keep their beer cold while sipping. Totally lo-fi, but great. It looked like each table outside had a bucket of ice on it as well. My buddy and I had to wrap our brains around the notion of our beers actually getting colder(not warmer) as we drank them. The beer selection is exclusively bottles and cans, but is pretty diverse. Prices are very good. The music mix was sort of strange: hard rock(mostly from the ‘90s — think Rage Against the Machine) mixed in with classic country tunes. Lastly, one of the nice attractions was the presence of owner Chester. Chester, who our bartender said is 88 years old, emerged from behind the bar, sat down at a table by himself, set up some dominoes and waited quietly. My friend asked our friendly bartender if he just waits for someone to sit down and challenge him. She said that he basically does, and that he plays a game called«42.» If you’re interested, go give him a game!

I love c hunts! Chester is the nicest old man you’ll ever meet. Most if the regulars are great people. I miss being able to bring dogs there and I wish they stayed open a but longer, but if you’re looking for a hole in the wall to drink a beer at with some great«texans» you should definitely drop by c. Hunts!

Neat, small, worn-in, and fun. A GREAT dive bar, nice staff, great owner, and of course, cheap beer! I would give it 5 stars but there are never events happening or a large(or medium) crowd to mingle with. Great place nonetheless.

Love it, having lived in North Austin for 6 years now I’ve been on a constant, often quixotic, quest for the perfect«dive» bar. C-hunts, or chunts, as I prefer to call it has me tilting at windmills no longer. Perfect Texas atmosphere; outdoor patio seating, crumbling(yet cozy) interior, cash only, cheap beer and no BS menu options. Lots of parking too. Couldn’t recommend it more.

This is probably my favorite bar in Austin. :D What’s this place got going for it? Well, let me tell ya. ~Outdoor, shaded seating. ~Cheap, CHEAP beers. ~An ice trough at the bar to keep your beers freezing cold. ~Buckets of ice if you’re sitting at the tables. ~The tables are picnic tables. Woo! ~it’s laid back, and not overly crowded. ~It’s not downtown, which means you don’t have to pay to park. ~And no bouncers/pretentious douchebags! ~Service is good. ~Awesome mix of people… young and old. ~The owner is often on site, and he’s cool and not very PC, which is fine by me. ~It’s super casual — you can wear shorts, flip-flops, tank tops, whatever you want. The only thing you’ll have to remember is that it is CASH, ONLY here. Stop by the ATM before comin’ on over… but aside from that, this place is the bee’s knees.

Don’t forget your cash. Don’t expect anything on tap but that is Okay because they have a great selection of brews and it’s a fun place to people watch.
