Café del Sol is a little diner housed at the office of my new work, Southwest Key. They are technically not a part of SWK, but we contract their work and the money we spend on their delicious food goes back into the surrounding East Austin community, which I cannot support enough. I’ve been at this job about a month, and every other day I’m over there buying breakfast or lunch. Their prices are very very reasonable, and the portions just enough to fill you up without making you feel bloated. And the food is very authentic and very tasty Mexican food. The community development aspect of Café del Sol is a major bonus.

I am so happy to have found this place. It’s close to where we live which is great. The food was delicious and the staff were very friendly and cheerful. I had the veggie burger which is the best veggie burger I’ve had in a years. My fiancée had tacos and was so pleased with how they tasted and how big they were. We’ll definitely go back!

Can honestly say they make some of the best breakfast tacos I’ve eaten. Simple and delicious tacos. The staff are so kind and always happy to serve you food.

I’ve had the chance to eat here twice now, once for breakfast and once for lunch, and it may be a small menu, but I loved the food I had both times. For breakfast I had a breakfast taco with egg, chorizo and cheese on a corn tortilla — really good! I love breakfast tacos from a lot of the chains around Austin, but its always nice to watch them break and cook the eggs just for your tacos instead of just scoop them out of a giant tray of pre-cooked eggs. And for $ 1.50, the taco was big and a really good deal. For lunch I had a chicken quesadilla and really that was what sold me on this place. Fresh tortialls, really great chicken and just the perfect amount of crispy. I had mine with sour cream and the red salsa and I’ve had to resist going back for another one just about every day since. And like the first review said, the food is really homemade. The guy ordering tacos after me was told he could have freshmade tortillas if he was willing to wait 5 minutes, and of course he was! Really nice to have food that fresh. I wish they had fresh tortilla chips to go with the salsa, that is about the only thing I would add to the menu. And as for the review that says it smelled like a barn, I won’t say you are wrong, but if that was ever true it is not now. I have not eaten inside, but they have cute little tables and the only thing I’ve smelled was the great food.

I actually didn’t eat in there because I walked in and it smelled like a BARN! I guess you could hold your nose and eat… if you require air to get the food down, you may need take-out.

Café Del Sol is a small café located on the ground floor of the new Southwest Key East Austin Community Center — a beautiful new community asset with many programs for the youth in our community. The Café is open to the public and serves some delicious homemade Mexican food. When I say handmade, I mean it. They roll out their own fresh tortillas, both corn and flour, daily!!! I just had a fantastic lunch of carne guisada with guacamole and fresh tortillas and rice and beans. Best tortillas I have had in Austin, seriously. They have a small menu with all of their items made fresh at extremely reasonable(cheap!) prices. This is a great little café run by very friendly people. Stop by!
