After being locked out of the apartment I was staying at over the weekend, I decided to venture down and get a drink. Great location! It seems to be walking distances from several large apartment complexes, as well as some of the frat/sorority houses. I sat at the left end of the bar, at which point I was told by the bartender that nobody was serving drinks at that end … I moved seats to around the middle of the bar because there was a huge group of clearly over-served guys at the right end. I had a couple gin and tonic doubles, which were well made and way strong — fine with me, but I doubt management would be okay with the fact that they did a full ounce more when free-pouring. Overall, okay experience. Good drinks, mediocre service. It seemed like the inexperienced bartender I encountered was more concerned with flirting with frat guys drinking teas than tending to actual bar guests, but I can’t speak for every bartender there. Didn’t try the food so can’t speak for that.

I have gone several times now and not once did I feel welcomed. The staff does a great job of making minorities feel uncomfortable/unwelcome, and on top of that the food isn’t great. The only thing they have to offer is beer. You can get a cold beer, better food, and better service anywhere else.

As a Longhorn for life… What can you say about C and A’s…as we called it in the Stone Age of the 1980’s…Great place, with good food, good drinks. Its a college bar, with food… smack dab in the middle of the largest(arguably) University in the Country. Some times the service is good, sometimes not so good. If, as some of the other reviewers seem to think, you are looking for a 5 star meal with all the bells… you ain’t from around here, that’s for sure… but if your looking for good drinks, decent food, and some good ol’ college fun… this is the place to be, especially on GAMEDAY… Hook’em!

Location is nice. Right in the midst of west campus. I don’t know how much they pay for rent, but this place is definitely worth it. The place is always packed. Most of the patrons are students who live in the area. There seems to be a small parking lot right next to it. There is also street parking all over West Campus. Interior is alright. No big issues with anything. The interior isn’t very clean(bathroom is pretty nasty), but considering that it’s mainly college students, it makes plenty of sense. The have a couple of pool tables which is pretty cool. Nice way to be able to pass the time. The drinks aren’t cheap or expensive, just so-so. They have deals from time to time for Shiner or other beers that may be cheaper. The service is pretty good though. Ther servers and bartenders were all nice and helpful. Overall, its a good alternative to a bar that requires riding a bus or driving. Nice place to hangout with some friends if you have some time to kill.

I was working late at my 2nd job and wanted something other than a sandwich. I called in an order for chicken nachos. I should have asked them what kind of nachos they were before ordering. They told me it would be about 15 minutes. I roll over there to pick up my order. The woman working the bar ignored me. I had to grab the guy who was checking IDs to get my food. It was over $ 11. I headed back to the office to eat. When I opened the box, it was corn tortillas cut in half. The chicken was good. They gave a little tube of Dr. Pepper BBQ sauce, which was good and a little tub of jalapenos. It would have been nice to have more jalapenos. The nachos were cold when I got them. Nachos are supposed to be a pile of chips, not these chalupa looking things. I would have liked to have more veggies with them like lettuce and tomatoes. It would have been nice to have some salsa to go with them as well. I expected service to be much better, especially with the Spurs game playing. The woman working the bar did not even apologize for ignoring me the whole time. She threw my card and receipt at me. I expect more from this place which seems to a big hang out for the college students who live around there.

TL;DR — The dumb blonde scratches butt profusely and it’s safe to say we all had a great time after that. Stars are for the giant hipster mason jars. By far the worst experience I think I’ve ever had. The bartender/waitress was really nice at first, helpful answering questions about the menu, got us our drinks quickly, and took our orders. It was all very very down hill from there. First our food was definitely sitting there for a bit as by the time we got it it was cold. And I am very sure it was because another waitress yelled at our bartender(from across the restaursnt) to pick up our food. Second, two bites into his noticeably cold burger he realized he needed another drink, which had definitely been empty before she delivered his food. So for the next 10 minutes we waited and waited and observed the three air heads chat and laugh/scream and cuss up at storm about something on the tvs. I think our favorite part was when the blonde, faced with her back towards us, got up from sitting down and slowly reached down in to the crevices of her butt to scratch to her hearts content. And then, as if this couldn’t get better, didn’t wash her hands. Lovely. Appetite lost? Oh yeah. Finally after I told her politely that we needed another drink, we got one. And then cue the continuance of the loud banchy laughing and cussing to go along with our already ruined dinner. She’s lucky my boyfriend is nice and actually gave her a tip she most definitely didn’t deserve or earn. I get it, it’s a college place right near ut. But come on, there were 2 tables. And 5 of you. Cussing, scream/laughing, scratching your butt, and ignoring everyone there. Run away, very far away from this place.

The food is below par for bar food– nothing exciting or memorable. The drinks aren’t the mightiest, but they have good deals depending on the time/day(like $ 1 beer Tuesdays, if you’re in the mood for some cheapo domestics). Wait staff is usually nice and helpful. I come here because it’s walking distance and has cheap drinks, otherwise, nah.

THEWORST! Not even the free crappy«johnny Appleseed» cider could raise any hopes of this being a pleasant place to eat or drink… After numerous attempts for a successful ruby red & soda drink(«like Dr. pepper?») order and servers too busy chatting… They only messed up on my food once! They forgot the BACON! F#%!!G INEXCUSABLE!!! The server claimed to be new, and I believe her… I consider her spared from my grumpy wrath. I Would be underwhelmed if I wasn’t so aggravated…

Shame on me for thinking that I would receive even mediocre service here. It took 10 minutes to take my order, and another 40 before it was brought to me, with barely an apology. I had to ask twice for the check and a to-go box(the first which I did when the food arrived, only to watch my waitress move on to other tables) as I was already well past my lunch hour. I suppose it’s my fault that I didn’t go find someone 20 minutes after my order was finally taken to see when I might get it. I suppose it’s my fault for expecting more prompt service during the lunch hour. I suppose it’s my fault for not planning to need 2 hours to eat lunch there. I suppose it’s my fault for even considering eating here. But I can guarantee you this: it won’t be my fault next time, because there won’t be a next time. I shall never again patronize this establishment.

Good atmosphere! Great for a college kid! Their chicken fried steak is really good and so are their mashed potatoes. Definitely a classic and should go there if you are looking for a good feel of UT.

I came here way back for undergrad, and I remember they had pretty good Texas Tea’s. So I decided to come back here because I was hungry, and I wouldn’t have minded a drink. There weren’t many people here, which isn’t a bad thing considering it was 3PM. We sat outside, which wasn’t too bad, except for this bad-ass bird with one leg hopping around everywhere. The service was great, the waitress was real friendly and willing to share everything she knew. Which is where things went downhill. We first got $ 2 margaritas since they were the special. Wasn’t bad, me and my friend enjoyed them. We both decided to get burgers, and when we asked the waitress, she asked if 20 minutes would be fine. We were like… ok… but then she said that their kitchen staff wasn’t the best, so things usually take a while. Hmmmm… While waiting for our burgers, we finished our margaritas, and thought about another drink. Since they didn’t have any other specials, we asked for water. However, I mentioned to the waitress about their Texas Tea and how I used to get them. She then said it was happy hour and they have a number of specials on drink or food. Which was really surprising since I didn’t see that advertised anywhere! She went on to mention that they had advertisements everywhere before, but the management didn’t like them and threw them all away. Hmmmmm… She split the $ 5 Texas tea special for me and my friend into 2 cups, which was cool. The Texas tea seemed overly sweet, and I couldn’t taste any alcohol, but I liked it. So the burgers come, and they were mediocre at best. I almost would have preferred a whopper from BK… the chips weren’t bad, although my friend paid extra for steak fries that ended up being home fries. Well, we quickly finished our food and headed out. Extra tip for the nice waitress, but I don’t think I’ll be back for food. Maybe some drinks. Not food.

Used to enjoy this place, but it has gone downhill. Service is glacial, to the point where it is difficult to go for lunch and be back to work on time. The food is not as good as it was either. Went today for lunch and ordered the BBQ sandwich special advertised on the chalkboard on the door. 10 mins. later the server came back and said, «That doesn’t start until two.» Tell me you ran out, or your cook forgot to get it out of the freezer, whatever the real story is, but don’t treat me like I’m stupid. Two stars only because the food’s never made me sick.

Cain and Abel’s is one of those places I’ve driven by for ages but not ever stopped at. We went for a friends birthday this week. The service was slow, the drinks were huge, and the bar food was on par with typical bar food. The crowd was rowdy and fun, swing dancing around the pool tables, and we sat outside and enjoyed the evening. Ultimately, I’d go back, but merely because its in walkable distance from a friends apartment. Nothing terrible, but with so many great choices in Austin, I’m not sure this place merits more than a visit or two :)

The only time I ever ordered food there, it was very average. The server was either in training, or very bad. She only came around twice. I asked her for a napkin both those times, and never got it. Their drinks are cheap, which is the only redeemable quality. If you’re not into the Greek scene, I would not recommend ever going there, because every night it’s going to be packed full of frat guys, and sorority girls.

Typical college bar, nothing fancy and cheap drinks galore! Depending on the time and day you go, it can either be super jammed packed and loud or pretty quiet. My favorite drink there is the John Daly, but if your looking to get absolutely wasted order the Texas Tea. The food is pretty average, but it does the trick of soaking up some the alcohol. If you want to feel like you’re 21 again, this is definitely a must visit!

This is very much so a college kid bar. Think oversized punch flavored drinks that they run on special during various days of the week. The intentions here are to get drunk. My friend went to sit in the booth and fell through its broken seat, screaming all the way down. Later, a drunk college kid asked us to 2 step to Hank Williams while other kids danced on the tops of the tables. I made the comment to my friend that we were by far the oldest people in the place and one of the sorority girls heard my comment and called me «mom». By closing time on a weekend expect the place to look like a tornado has blown through(again, demographic of the age group of kids – very messy). They have a nice selection of beers on tap, though you will have to drink it out of a plastic cup since you can’t be trusted. Plenty of TV sets to watch the games. Kyle the bar manager is super hot but he knows it. Regardless, it isn’t too bad of a place. You should try it.

I’d ideally give them 3.5 stars. Maybe 3.75. Their burgers, homemade chips, and seasoned shoestring fries are delicious, and their corn-flake«fried» ice cream with whipped cream and pecans is absolutely the cherry on top. On the other hand, the setting of west campus, sticky tables, and understaffed wait today keeps it in the college spectrum. I totally understand that some places staff lowly during the weekdays, especially at a bar-pub-college hangout during the week, but being understaffed despite how fantastically pleasant the waitresses are is disappointing for those of us who have hour-long lunches and can’t afford to wait too long. Regardless, their specials every night keep the college kids coming, and their dollar-beer Tuesday nights are of course, out the door. They’ve also had pretty good service, but just today did I find out their burgers are a-mazing! Just the perfect amount of grease without overwhelming your food. Delish.
