Canadian Ruffles All Dressed

I had never heard of these chips until I saw a thread posted in Unilocal Talk. I like chips, especially Ruffles, so my interest was somewhat peaked. I wasn’t really sold with the comparison to them tasting kinda like all the toppings from a bagel or whatever. I looked for them in a couple of convenient stores, but, had no luck finding them. So I went to HEB. Again, no luck. Ok. I’m thinking «hey these must be pretty good». So I called Frito Lay. The guy there told me that they aren’t being marketed at a National level because they are «limited time only». He suggested I look for them at CVS, Walgreens and Rite-​Aid. He also said I could go online to their web site and punch my zip in the finder.
None of that worked out with a successful find. Now a serious scavenger hunt was on. I finally found the fucking things at the Quik Stop in Round Rock. It’s on the corner of Mays and Bowman. They had six small bags hanging on an end cap. I thought «what the Hell. Buy them all». Buy them all I did at $ 1.49 each. So roughly $ 10.00. I immediately posted my success in the talk thread. You know. Unilocalers were eagerly waiting for someone to find these and I just couldn’t let my fellow Unilocalers down. No sir. I even offered to share. How nice am I?
I got home and immediately got into Quita Culpepper (she’s the one who samples new products on KVUE News) mode. I opened a bag and pulled out a paper plate and of course my smart phone. Gotta take pics. I called side kick in and we began our sampling. He was had at one chip and wouldn’t venture further. They were everything that I love about Ruffles as far as the ridges, crispiness and dipping strength go. So, one star for that. I ate as much as I could force down (½ bag or appx 37 oz). I kept eating not because I liked them, but, because I couldn’t find flavor other than the overwhelming taste of white vinegar. They even smelled like it and my fingers ended up smelling like it. Even the MSG in them wasn’t coming through. Maybe a slight hint of bbq or smoke? Very faint. Unimpressive.
I love scavenger hunts, so, I don’t regret running around two different cities searching for these damn things. What I do regret is that the prize/​find ended up being nothing more than a bag of Ruffles drowned in white vinegar sprinkled lightly with liquid smoke and bbq flavoring. Happy fucking Halloween. I won’t even share these with the dead zombies. Maybe I’ll box the remaining five bags and ship them back to Canada. Canada, you can keep your All Dressed.
