Writing a 2-​star review on a home builder in this economy is a little like kicking your grandma over in her wheelchair, but Austin has soooo many bad builders, it’s time we had a place to vent.
I’ve been in my newly-​constructed house for almost 3 years now and can honestly say this job was rushed, cheap materials were used wherever possible and little attention was given to things like insulation, HVAC design (hot/​cold rooms, unit too small, intakes too high), and attic access. But it’s next to a park and I’m pretty handy, so I think we’ll make it.
They were able to get good plumbing fixtures (Danze), lighting/​fans and tub (Jacuzzi), but the plumber left leaks and there are light switches on the wall that don’t seem to do anything.
They obviously ran out of exterior paint at some point as there are clearly 2 – 3 different shades being used throughout — and it’s about the cheapest paint you can buy.
Lesson learned — don’t buy a new house in Austin without checking out the builder and their past work. All it takes is a lazy GC and some cheap materials and it all falls apart.
